I'm flabbergasted by this. FTR stated in a recent shoot interview that the new gimmick WWE wanted them to do (before they walked) was a "1980s' Tag Team Parody". Furthermore, they stated Vince and Bruce Prichard told them the gimmick would be a combination of all great 1980s' era tag teams. FTR was outraged by this and Prichard was confused as to why they took offense at a gimmick which would have made fun of their heroes.

There's a new/current FAN rule that says don't embed or link Cornette shoots/videos.
That being said they basically said the same thing pn Jericho's podcast, and yes it was stupid, the whole thing was stupid just LOOK at it without the gimmick premise and just the look, it was never going to work.

I removed the offending material. I don't want this thread locked for that reason.
I have to wonder if it was designed to purposefully sabotage them or just thought up out of sheer stupidity, or maybe a dislike of tag teams?

Anyway, 1:I'd kill to see the mockups for FTR WWE had. 2: Vince calling the system broken, You run the system you imbecile, That or you let it become what it is.

Oh, and apparently when FTR asked Bruce what the story's purpose was (beyond an inside joke) or its ending he said - "We haven't gotten that far yet". This was a big red flag for FTR they stated and was the reason they left the company (combined with everything else).

This belongs in the WWE section and I will moving it there momentarily.
We appreciate the effort to help enforce one of our rules, but it is not necessarily. Please leave this to us in the future, if for no other reason than to minimize conflict with other posters.
Regarding whatever was posted, if it had current-day Cornette talking in it, no, it was never going to fly here at this time.

They wanted to humiliate the revival on their way out, that’s why Prichard couldn’t give them a straight answer as to why dressing like Dr Seuss rejects was a good career move.

Vince doesn't like tag teams? I am completely and utterly shocked.

I kinda dddoooonnnnn't get the problem? Joke throwback teams can be hugely entertaining. It'd be Southpaw Wrestling, just as a gimmick.

This sounds a million times better than “we’re brawlers” or whatever they were.

Parodies or imitators never get over, look at the renegade or the new midnight express. The Revival would’ve been turned into jobbers. The fact that Prichard couldn’t defend it says everything about the gimmick.

Did I listen to a different Jericho podcast from everyone else? I think "outraged" is an OVERstatement. Seemed like they were on board, they'd have fun with it, but they were still leaving when their contract was up, and that's why the idea was killed. Jericho even said on paper it was a good idea. The Revival would basically be mocking everything that they're told they should be. They need to have this personality or that personality, so they mash together everything to take the piss outta those gimmicks.
I mean, did I totally understand that wrong? I was working while I was listening to it, so maybe I didn't hear the whole conversation, but on the Jericho podcast it didn't seem like anybody really fully crapped on the idea in the end.

I haven’t listened to the Jericho podcast, here FTR said that they didn’t like the idea of being impersonators but if that’s what Vince wanted then they would do it. They made it clear that while they would do the comedy gimmick, FTR wouldn’t resign with them. Vince eventually gave up and just let them stay at home.

If this is what I'm thinking about FTR said on TIJ that the idea was to intentionally be parodies and state that it was the only way to get noticed. They seemed to get a kick out of the idea but didn't see long term success and the gimmick was shelved because the Revival would not commit to resigning.
Hell... every interview I've heard both have flat out said that WWE promised them tag runs and long tag runs but that didn't matter because the division didn't mean anything. They wanted to elevate the entire division and WWE would not commit

"We haven't gotten that far yet" should be the go to quote for how bad WWE Booking is these days. These is no plan, and there can't be one when the shows are constantly rewritten and changed.
