Parodies or imitators never get over, look at the renegade or the midnight express. The Revival would’ve been turned into jobbers. The fact that Prichard couldn’t defend it says everything about the gimmick. Mizdow,Charlie Haas, Curtis Axel and Black Machismo. Three of those guys became jobbers with no real future. They got over for a few months and then, back to catering. Black Machismo would've ended up the same way. He just happened to work for a different company.

Black Machismo would've ended up the same way. He just happened to work for a different company. And he ended up getting fired. It wasn’t until his return to ROH that Jay Lethal reached his full potential.

I'm really glad that there are viable options outside of New Japan for guys who want to leave the WWE system, now.
The Revival/FTR pretty much bet on themselves, stood their ground, and immediately got into the hottest tag division in North America, for what I assume is less dates, not much of a paycut (if at all), and not having to deal with the Vince McMahon show.

I argue none of these guys became big names while remaining purely comedic characters. For example, I loved Black Machismo to death but his Jay Lethal persona is far more credible on screen.

From the interview, FTR made a great point that Vince should be thankful about tag team wrestling because it helped built his father’s company. From the Valiant Brothers to the Grahams, hell Vince’s favorites growing up was the Grahams! He even dyed his hair blonde as tribute to Dr Jerry Graham.
I don’t get why someone who grew up loving tag team wrestling thinks that it’s just not worth the time.

*Raises Hand* ...I would’ve actually liked to have seen that... It gets worse, the entrance would’ve been them dancing. Vince apparently pitched them and was dancing himself doing the moonwalk...that shit would’ve been a career killing gimmick.

I kinda dddoooonnnnn't get the problem? Joke throwback teams can be hugely entertaining. It'd be Southpaw Wrestling, just as a gimmick. Main roster Southpaw was abysmal though. We already saw the comedy they gave these guys before, which was so insulting and 'sublty' homophobic that it had people convinced it was spite booking. In their shoes I wouldn't trust a "We don't have a real direction or plan" comedy gimmick where I get to be a clown making fun of tag team wrestling when what I want to do is bring serious tag team glory days to the main WWE product. Hell, even out of their shoes I wouldn't trust this either. We saw Mike Bennett get signed on for a new deal just for Corey to call him a beta cuck; they saw the position Vince wanted them in and knew what they were getting wouldn't be what they wanted out of their work at all.

Imo, the Revial came across as too serious and not very personable on the main roster. As stupid as it would have looked, people may have cared. It worked for Brodus. It it ended up being lame, they could have just left like they did, and still appeal to the anti wwe crowd

I bet it’s forever chapped Vince’s ass, that the only thing he’s ever been successful at, is something he really doesn’t even like.

I bet it’s forever chapped Vince’s ass, that the only thing he’s ever been successful at, is something he really doesn’t even like. It really feels like he constantly wants to make Wrestling everything BUT actual WRESTLING, and fails at it, and then tries other ventures outside of wrestling, and fails at it, but is too up his own ass to admit when he's wrong or anything for that matter, is wrong. It's the kind of karma he's earned frankly

Southpaw is great when you've got the accurate production values and everyone in on the joke. Not to mention the wrestlers mostly just doing their own thing. Plus it only happens so often that it doesn't get a chance to wear out its welcome.
Southpaw-style gimmick on a weekly 2020 show heavily scripted by WWE's writing staff? Yeaaaah, no.

Haas and Axel impersonating other wrestlers got some laughs, but there were plenty of people watching and wondering what the point of it all was. Ultimately, there was no point. They just stopped appearing on TV. Gimmicks like this have no shelf life, especially in WWE.

Only Big Show, with his ton of charisma was able to pull off Showkishi, Shonan the Barbarian, The Big Showbowski, and The Showster. 😊

If you have a tag team match instead of a singles match, you're paying four people instead of two. I'm sure there are a dozen other insane reasons that Vince doesn't like tag team wrestling, but I think that's the main one.

How well did being a parody of 80s tag team wrestling go for the ascension?

I love how people like Mizdow, Curtis Axel and Brodus Clay are being used as examples why the Revival SHOULD have done this asinine gimmick.

Love Bruce but from stories I’ve heard on podcasts and from himself, is that he’s the king of booking useless comedy acts with no shelf life and without any direction whatsoever.

I don’t get why someone who grew up loving tag team wrestling thinks that it’s just not worth the time. Because you have to pay two people for one gimmick. It's as simple as that. When you brag about having 500 million on hand to investors, and then lay off 30 people the next day to save 700k, money means more than quality. Vince knows people will watch WWE with or without tag teams, so why bother wasting the money.
