Nothing about Rocky V makes any sense. Why was Paulie in charge of the family finances? Why was Rocky's criminal past suddenly an issue with advertisers when there is literally a montages of him doing commercials in Rocky III? Why was Rocky Jr. 10 years older? Just how long were they in Russia? Lol, you are absolutely right about the second two, but the first one was explained. While they were in Russia, their accountant convinced Paulie to forge Rocky's name on a form. Paulie thought he was helping out. Paulie wasn't actually in charge of the finances. They mentioned suing the accountant, but there was some kinda reason they didn't, like the accountant lost his money too or something like that. Haven't watched V in a long time, but I think the guy said they COULD sue but it was doubtful they would get anything close to all the money, if any, back even if they won.

I watched the movie earlier this year and there was a passing mentioned in a news report that they were suing him, but it never came up again after that. Also, add me to the group who loves Rocky IV despite (or maybe even because of) half the movie consists of montages.

I watch Rocky IV on my birthday every year. I watched it twice this year. Last year, I played it on a loop in various languages/subtitle language combinations in the background while I ran my 10 hour D&D game that day. I've just always loved how utterly ridiculous it is. And I love Rocky in general even if the continuity concerning his injuries is f***ed. In Rocky Balboa, he gets a physical and they act like he's the epitome of health, which seems to imply his eye and brain just fixed themselves through sheer force of will.

Rocky shrugs off cancer from Creed 1 to 2. But boy Paulie is just the worst tub of shit imaginable. Burt Young plays him perfectly, cuz boy he's totally unlikable. Like you can sort of see why Rocky hangs around him in the first couple as they're both kind of cast aside in society, but he's a complete parasite that actively ruins the Balboa's finances more than once and is such a belligerent asshole that Adrian's brother or not, Rocky loyalty or not, he should have been cut out of their lives. Instead they got him a sex robot. After he busted Rocky’s pinball machine. You’d think that opening would have been the last straw, but the gang kept giving him chances.

Three pages in, and no one has mentioned Rocky's son aging about 5 to 6 years in a few weeks.

I do like that Rocky 6 briefly addressed Paulie's treatment of Adrian.

Wouldn't that have been a great explanation for, oh, I don't know, maybe THE ACTUAL DAMN MOVIE!

Rocky Balboa was a solid enough film but did anyone really care about Mason "The Line" Dixon? It's almost a storyline point that he's a current champion that no one respects and has no heat compared to the greats like Rocky or Creed.
My dad told me a fun story about seeing Rocky when it first came out. He thought it was...okay. Not sure what my mom thought. But there was a black couple in the row in front of them that exited the theater like "That's the best picture of the year! It will win the Academy Award!" My dad was like "Surely there's something else better than that this year." But hey, they were right. I think what helped Rocky in 1976 at the Oscars is the other nominees were so ultra downbeat and dark. Network, Taxi Driver, and All the President's Men are to varying degrees cynical and upsetting films, whereas Rocky had certain darker elements but at the end was a feel good story.
Of the main series from 1976-85 I have never been a big fan of 3. That's where things got semi cartoonish but I never felt Mr. T was that good of a bad guy. He was basically a cocky punk that got a cheap win over Rocky when Mickey died, then Rocky came back and utterly steamrolled him.

Rocky V isn't horrible, I think it's unpopular because it was such a left turn compared to III and IV in terms of tone. I believe the change of tone was a choice by Stallone to give the movie a feel of conclusion, a final chapter, a closing of the book of the story of Rocky Balboa. But after the over-campiness of Rocky IV, I think a lot of people were caught off guard by it. But Rocky V is fine for what it was. Also, George Washington Duke is an awesome character, even though he was basically Don King with a non-copyright-infringing hairstyle. I honestly think that George Washington Duke was the best character in the film, he was just so brilliantly over the top and, there were even times where the dude who played Tommy Gunn surprised me by being not half bad at his role.
