But now you see the appeal
When I first heard about reddit, and finally checked it out, I was like “it’s just a messageboard. A really hard to follow message board.”
But the older I’ve gotten and more questions I’ve had, I find myself googling stuff and finding a Reddit page where other have gone through something similar.
It’s a great community as far as finding a discussion about some thought that’s been on your mind, Support or even anecdotal stuff about health issues or legal stuff. Almost any interest you have, there’s some community for it.
Twitch, and watching gaming streams, I always thought was weird. But as I’ve been stuck in the house the last few months, it’s a great comfort. My gamer friends are up late at night, having a fun conversation playing games and there’s a community of followers gathering at the late hours in the middle of the night. Also watching speed runners play familiar games from my childhood makes cardio on an exercise bike go by way easier.

I sort of got a late start at being interested in real sports (other than pro wrestling) or at least much later than most. I wasn't really a fan of sports until I was 18. Which, ironically enough, is the age I was when a local sports team first won a championship.

Alan Partridge and The Fast Show in the mid 90s. I was ayear or two behind others in my appreciation of them.

Minecraft? Why don't you start making custom levels in a real game?

Fast and Furious franchise. I just dismissed the films as car porn for airheads and chavs until one of my friends wanted to see Fast 5 because The Rock was in it. I reluctantly went with him and was thoroughly entertained by the movie. The action was great and it just felt like an action thriller to me rather than simply about how fast your car goes.
Seen every film since and every one before it now. Everything before Fast 5 imo is just ok but watchable. But everything since has been really fun to watch.

Alan Partridge and The Fast Show in the mid 90s. I was ayear or two behind others in my appreciation of them. Partridge is one of mine. I'm an absolutely massive fan now, but for a good few months I just did not get it. I think it took me watching an episode once when it was just on TV without really expecting anything, at which point it clicked.
There's a load of music I could list here too, that I didn't really get the appeal of until I got older and matured enough to understand what it was all about and trying to do. Off the top of my head Astral Weeks by Van Morrison is a record I hated on first listen, but grew to really enjoy.

Which, ironically enough, is the age I was when a local sports team first won a championship. I'm going to be 40 soon, and I'm just now getting into basketball. I also want to get into football and hockey but don't have time. I've always liked baseball.

The Inbetweeners I dismissed as crap. But then caught an episode and enjoyed it.
Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad didn't appeal to me at first. GoT I joined around season 6. Breaking Bad had just finished.

Both The Office and Parks and Rec got second chances after their first seasons failed to retain my interest thanks to my wife.
Those episodes truly do fail to do their respective shows justice in retrospect.

I'll echo whoever said the Fast and Furious franchise. I watched the first one back when it came out and thought it was dumb. Just a two hour car commercial....then somewhere around the 4th or 5th one I got hooked.

Game of Thrones
Always heard about it but never really gave it a watch. That all changed once I heard about the Red Wedding and the craziness with that

Those episodes truly do fail to do their respective shows justice in retrospect. I have a weird thing with both of these shows, in polar opposite ways. Parks and Rec I had seen a couple episodes and it did nothing for me. Then, a couple years ago, I watched a few episodes almost on accident, and wound up becoming a big fan. The Office, I had seen a couple episodes that I enjoyed, but then tried to sit down and watch the show, and I cannot STAND it. And it's pretty much 100% Michael Scott's fault. I abhor that character, and I generally like Steve Carrell. He makes the show unwatchable for me.

"Eh, these MP3 things seem ok but I don't think I'll ever get rid of my CD's." I get where you're coming from, but what's weird about this is that I have been listening to CDs more these days. I never really stopped buying them, either. Anyway, put me in the sports camp. Now I still don't consider myself a huge sports fan, but I respect them. I even found myself getting into some sports like tennis, volleyball, sometimes hockey, and even some Olympic sports that aren't that popular. I don't follow them, though, but I would sit down and watch a game. I also enjoy basketball. Football, on the other hand, still not a fan, but I respect it. Though I have experienced some people being surprised when I tell them that I am not a football fan. It didn't help being with a group of guys talking about players, stats, draft picks, and such and having nothing to add to the conversation.

The Sopranos. While it was initially airing, I thought it would only appeal to people who fantasized about that lifestyle for themselves. It wasn't until a handful of years ago, my boyfriend was re-watching it, and I realized how delightfully humorous it could be.

Dark Side of the Moon and Pink Floyd in general. Was probably in my teens when people started listening to it in my group, it just wasn't really music as far as I was concerned. I can't really speak to what changed my mind, but it probably happened in my early 20s.

Seinfeld — I never watched an episode until its original run was almost over, but I did find it pretty amusing once I caught up with it in reruns.
Grunge music — I was a kid in its heyday, & frankly found it a little creepy. But after college (in the late ‘00s/early ‘10s), I started exploring it more & learning what they were really singing about, and gained more of an appreciation. Alice In Chains, in particular, has become one of my favorite bands of the grunge era.
Classic hits — Kind of a catch-all term for music primarily from the 70s & 80s (though it can incorporate other decades, depending on who’s defining it). I guess this one kind of comes with age.
