Days away from Halloween, let’s reflect on one of the most gloriously ghoulish of wrestling characters. As far as his on screen character goes, there weee do many to pick from, but I recall particularly well an episode of Superstars where he had Undertaker sat in at the table as guests, and at one point Vince was shilling WBF Body Stars, so old Paul peeked up and said “Oooh, bodies!” The look on Vince’s face makes me think it was totally improvised, and then every time the word body was said Paul would ham it up even more, “Oh I love bodies!” obviously trying to get someone to crack and laugh.
There was also a particular In Your House segment for the WWF hotline I remember my friends and I laughing at because Paul Bearer was resting his head on Sunny’s boobs, which is even crazier now knowing how the two of them hated each other.
And finally outside the ring, there are so many shoot interviews where he recited the tale of how Kane was conceived with such glee. I imagine the rare chance to truly raunch it up with his character was something he threw himself into and hence why he remembered the dialogue so vividly.

I always laugh thinking about the segment when he getting a blood test to prove he's Kane's dad. He's whining the whole time "I...I don't wanna look....It DOES hurt! IT DOES HURT!!!!!!"

As a child I thought his over the top facial expressions and hysteria were stupid. As an adult I can see exactly how much fun he was having with the character.
On STWW, Bruce told a story of how Sunny had complained about Paul Bearer being unkind to her, so Vince got them together for a clear the air meeting. Sunny said she wanted an apology so Bearer, ever the gent, extended a hand and apologised...with the most sarcastic, insincere ‘I’m so sorry, Miss Fytch!’.
Bruce, very much in the Bearer camp, said it was all he could do not to burst out laughing.

His reappearance at WrestleMania 20 alongside the return of the Dead Man was pitch perfect, and I loved the little bit he did during the match when he got up in Kane's face and yelled: "You we're a bad son!"

I was around 11 at the time and was fascinated by the concrete gimmick. I couldn’t understand how they did it.
He really is brilliant in the build up to Kane’s debut. He sold the whole thing so well.

I thought he said on the floor during the introduction before Taker started, He look his direction and said "Son, your no son of mine."

Another good moment was when he and Kane returned at the end of that hot 10 men tag team match on RAW in Feb of 2000.

I always felt it was very noble of them to build a custom casket for someone before they murdered them.

I just think that it’s amazing that an old west zombie mortician with his manager named Paul Bearer, became iconic legends. If anything should have fallen flat on its face it’s that. lol
Just a testament to both guys really.

On a similar note, the skits where Edge took him hostage. As much as it sucks that those were his final appearances for WWE, you could tell that all concerned were having fun.

Serious answer: meeting him at an indy show. One of the real super cool legends I've ever met.

The stuff mentioned in here regarding his reveal as Kane's father are new to me lol I've started watching every show starting with the Raw after WrestleMania 14 and I just saw those skits a few days ago. Great stuff and shows just how good he was as a character.
