Tampa’s gonna sweep right? Maybe Price steals one?

As much of a mistmatch as this was on paper, it was every bit of that on the ice tonight. But the Lightning did the same thing to NYI last round and still got pushed to the brink, so who knows if that's how the series is going to go.

Tip of the hat to TBL for winning another Stanley Cup.
How boring.

As we've seen from the Habs so far, the moment people underestimate them, they just start putting it on. Whether they can tap into that magic again versus Tampa remains to be seen.

Tom Dundon now has full ownership of the Hurricanes. The Karmanos era is officially over.

yawn. But so I can say I "backed" a winning team, finally. I'm switching my bets to Tampa. With side action on a sweep.

Man, I was really rooting for the Habs to pull it off. It would be good for the NHL for one of the Original Six to win the Cup, and for the Cup to finally go back to Canada.
But, it wouldn't even be fair to call it a talent gap between the Lightning and the Habs...it's a talent chasm. I expect this will probably end in a sweep, sadly. I sincerely hope I'm wrong and the Habs can tap into the magic and momentum for 4 more wins, but I just don't see it.

I don't blame them because I'd use the same loophole if I was in their shoes, but imagine if Montreal could add another 18 million worth of players. Same with Florida, Carolina, and the Islanders.

Yeah, I get LTIR money during the regular season, but it's insane that playoff teams don't have to be cap complaint.

This series bites, but it's what the NHL deserves when 1 team is 18 mil over the cap and the other played in a trash division and would be 2 spots out of the playoffs in any other year

I'm not really buying the cap argument since Tampa's going to have to adjust next season and the NHL is going to close the loophole to avoid the rest of the league rioting. If anything, I only see the Lightning getting stronger and becoming this decade's Red Wings.

I'm not really buying the cap argument since Tampa's going to have to adjust next season and the NHL is going to close the loophole to avoid the rest of the league rioting. If anything, I only see the Lightning getting stronger and becoming this decade's Red Wings. But next season doesn't matter right now. They're way over and they're going to win the cup. Kucherov will win the MVP and has 32 points in 21 games. He just joined only Gretzky and Lemieux to get 30+ points in back to back playoffs. Also they just signed another collective bargaining agreement last summer. They had their chance to close the loophole and didn't. It goes until 2026 so it'll have to wait until then. Every team knew what Chicago did with Kane. Tampa very well could win next year again but they will have to shed the bare minimum of 18 million worth of salary. That's with Point needing a new contract (which I would say is a no brainer but their hands might be tied with the NMC's), and the dude deserves a massive payday. That's not counting that they'll have to fill those roster spots too of the guys that are leaving, so we're looking at shedding in the mid/high 20's range if they keep him and if the roster filler guys make, say, 1 million each. They're going to lose the VAST majority of their depth. Elliotte Friedman also said at the start of the playoffs that everybody that has a NMC doesn't want to waive which adds to the problem. I'm guessing they'll try to send a contract to Seattle. A sign and trade with Point for the 2nd overall pick (and more, obviously)? I can't see them getting stronger because yeah, they can't add and they'll have to subtract. Their team is going to have a massive overhaul.

If anything this finals has given me a great tool in my battle with insomnia.
Pathetic doesn't even begin to describe it.
