Do you actually know how long it takes to make a game of this magnitude? And I'm talking a game they're developing under their own umbrella not something with the 2K machine or something behind it. This game footage was not final and compared to what we first saw of the game is definitely continuing to show improvement. You probably aren't going to see polished and final gameplay footage until well into 2022. Thats where we differ though...Yukes is making this game which means they have decades of experience and resources making wrestling games behind them...That is why it is a bit odd that it looks like this after a year. In other words, it is a wrestling video game development company making a new IP instead of this in house grass roots idea that seems to be perpetuating. Having experience programming and starting a game from scratch is two completely.different things. If you started a new fifa from scratch it would take much more than 2 yeats for something decent Im sure the reason is that far is their experience.

Like, a lot of what got the Smackdown and WWE games out on time was because they could use older assets and adapt them to the latest version. It annoyed people, yeah, but how else were they going to do it? They weren’t going to mocap a new Kane chokeslam when he wasn’t doing it any differently the next year. With the AEW game, there isn’t that same thing. They can’t use the old Jericho mocaps for moves because 2K owns those. And even 2K we’re only given months to adapt to the changes to Yukes leaving which, yeah, of course 2K20 was bad, what else was going to be the outcome with that stacked against you?

I mean there were moves from the original Smackdown game that lasted for years longer than they should have.

Sure, but if you're making a new game year after year on a cycle where you're likely not allowed to implement what you want or make the changes needed because of very close deadlines, you're absolutely going to use what you have instead of get new mo-capping done that's an expensive process as it is for new moves and talent.

Man, but that awful Boston Crab... That was what I was getting at. Once you have a fully functional game, then you can iterate (hopefully AEW doesn't do it the Madden/FIFA way where you're mostly paying for the roster update and a few new modes) but until you're there, everything has to be built.

Pretty much, yeah. Like, I'm all for giving the developers the time they need because we've seen what happens when they don't so many times and not even with just wrestling games. Also, I have a real bugbear of people acting like game developers are trying to short-change them when there have been thousands of stories of crunch over the last few years alone.

So, um... Can we talk about how impossible the HFO challenge from the update is? You start with $30,000, you have to hire the entire HFO by week 4, plus get so much money, fans and morale in that time. Like... How?! I can only hire Evans and Angelico to start, you only get enough money to book one match a week... What am I missing?!

Since Sting is going to be in the game, atleast we get a proper Scorpion Death Drop/Reverse DDT instead of that half ass scoop lift reverse ddt.

Not only are they having to build everything from scratch, but you've still got pandemic conditions to handle, which have and will continue to cause delays with a lot of games.
Some people are acting like Yuke's can just asset flip everything from their WWE games when they legally can't.

Thr irony of Cody being everyone's first CAW when the game comes out.

Thr irony of Cody being everyone's first CAW when the game comes out. Yeah he has the potential to be the most downloaded guy on both games...Natively on neither

Thr irony of Cody being everyone's first CAW when the game comes out. They'll probably have that stupid neck tattoo as a CAW asset and I don't know if I'll love or hate it.
AEW hasn't had much roster upheaval outside of Cody and maybe Brandi that would affect this game, so I wonder how they play it. Are they still going to be in the game because I assume Yuke's has already done extensive work on them? Or cut and their assets are quietly shuffled into the CAW parts?

Thr irony of Cody being everyone's first CAW when the game comes out. Really the best case scenario considering how much work probably went into animating his entrance already.

They’re probably in a damned if they do, damned if they don’t situation, but they probably released footage too early. I think if the first footage we saw was this year with a 2023 release date, folks would be more understanding.
