Like, no disrespect likely to them but we’ve had too much BS lately to just take these sources as legit, we need a bit more than that. And I’m not trying to sound mean but this was especially after an entertainment Instagram nobody heard of said The Queen died.

If it was just this story, absolutely. They were right. Who was this publication claiming that there’s trouble with the AEW game development? Are they known for these types of stories? Did they talk about the breakdown of EA talks with FIFA for example since that’s what the website is known for?

A guy’s soundtrack producing career was practically ruined because someone claimed he said Bruce Lee’s family didn’t want his likeness in future fighting games. You can’t exactly blame me when being a bit hesitant about misinformation.

Smacktalks has reported it as well based on the same reporters geez this stuff is taken way too seriously. My statement regarding them being legit is they have been around for years and seem to be active in their niches like the reporters we give credence to in pro wrestling. These are the type of people that would hear these rumors first I would assume. Regardless I just posted a link and a tweet from the actual subject himself confirming recent career changes...take it for whatever it means.

One one hand..gameplay is what’s going to sell me on this. But it definitely feels like it might be a bare bones intro. Hopefully the gameplay pays off.

I know Fightful reported that THQ Nordic have been helping minimally at the minute but I see that they have a showcase for August 12th. If they are going to be the publisher going forward then this date would match up to a reveal within the next few months that Evil Uno mentioned.

Until I see otherwise, I maintain Fight Forever is gonna be about what you'd expect from a wrestling company's first video game. A fun arcade-style game that's a blast to play with friends or on Twitch with some glaring exclusions and room for improvement for a sequel.

Frankly, I'm expecting "WWE All-Stars, but AEW" and I'm cool with that.

Personally I might look into a bare bones release if it looks fun to play but it's certainly not something I'm going to pay full price on. Not that it's reasonable to expect them to be at the level of 2K22 when that's had 23 years worth of prior work leading up to it and certainly has a way higher budget, but it is kind of a thing where when that is fun to play in its own right I'm not seeing a lot of reason to drop a ton of money on an alternative I'd probably shelf immediately. Especially since when it came to All Stars, as probably the nearest point of comparison for something like that, I really didn't like its gameplay all that much and very quickly got tired of the game because there was very little to actually do in it to keep me coming back to it for hours on end like I've done with a lot of other wrestling games.

Like, if they knock it out of the park I'm perfectly willing to spend maybe $30, but I do think the idea of, "If the gameplay is good enough it'll sell well," is pretty deluded when facing the realities of just how many good games are out there that also have meat on their bones. Particularly since I'm not really convinced AEW has a big enough fanbase to make the money back from a game to begin with.

I dunno. Maybe I'd have a different attitude on it and see gameplay as enough if multiplayer was my primary concern but by and large I'm entirely focused on the single player side of things and actively despise playing games with strangers. 2K22 gives me plenty of options to indulge in that while something like All Stars doesn't.

The mindset of “well this is just the set up game and the next one will be the one that puts it all together” is a weird one to me in todays day.

This isn’t a situation like 2K where the game is established and being headed up by a big studio and sells decently enough.

Hype is building for AEW's first-ever video game, which is reportedly titled AEW Fight Forever, though we still don't have that much in the way of details for it. In a new interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Kenny Omega revealed more details about his role in the development process and overall progress on the game, which seems to be moving along smoothly after some initial hurdles. Omega said some of the elements that looked as if they would be left on the cutting room floor are now going into the game, and he is hopeful they can deliver the game this year, so good news all around it would seem.

"It's great that people are excited, that makes me happy. It was really challenging because I wasn't sure what I could do, what I would be able to do. From a creative design standpoint, how I communicate my ideas, are they going to be understood? Is it going to be too off the wall? Are my ideas too broad, too grandiose for the budget? These are things I never knew going into the project," Omega said.

"It's now to the point where we've talked about what we can do and what we have the time and budget for. Now, it's almost time for me to find something else within this project to do because the creative process is almost complete where, we know how the matches will flow, we know some of the systems, we know the action and reaction type stuff. It's now in a process of being tuned and finely tuned from there," Omega said.

"Still, a lot of stuff to implement, but our guys at Yuke's are working at a blistering pace. It's incredible the amount they are doing within a 24-hour period. It just seemed like, out of nowhere, a light switch went off and they went into hyper mode. They're working real fast. Some of the stuff we were worried might be on the cutting room floor is now getting implemented. It was a challenge to attempt to make a brand new wrestling game, from the ground up, during the COVID era. It was very challenging. It got to a point where it seemed bleak and maybe we would never release this thing, but we kind of got past that, and with the go-getters at Yuke's and the guys on our side and Geta [Hideyuki "Geta" Iwashita] and his old contacts that have hopped on board and helped push us to the finish line we, hopefully, can be on schedule to make sure we get this game out by this year. Hopefully. Fingers crossed," Omega said.

“The game has to be fun,” Omega said. “I also want the game to have its own feel. A match with Kenny Omega should feel like a Kenny Omega match. The same with Darby Allin or Nyla Rose. There can be universal counters, but the characters need their unique signature moves. So you’re not going to see Sting do a springboard top rope frankensteiner. Sting will feel like Sting. My hope is that whoever you like, you’ll get to enjoy playing like them in the game.

“There is also some real cool stuff with the game modes. There will be a couple surprises, too. The plan is to show new material as soon as possible. We’re getting very close.”

Omega and his team are working to capture the excitement currently enveloping AEW, as well as pay tribute to the intrigue that existed when the company was first created. An important part of that is paying tribute to those who helped bring AEW to prominence, which includes former EVP and current WWE star Cody Rhodes.

I imagine they already did a ton of work on Cody's stuff in-game and didn't want to just throw it away. Still, better that all his stuff is as Cody than say, making a generic YUKES MAN character with all of Cody's moves lol.

Oh cool, exploding bard wire matches, that should be entertaining. Good to see a decent (supposedly obviously) career mode is there as well. Still holding out hope for something quasi similar to Universe mode, least something where I can put together cards and stuff carries over.

An exploding barbed wire deathmatch in a wrestling game? That sounds nuts. Working with an experienced publisher should also do a lot to help with manufacturing and digital distribution instead of outright starting up a new publisher.

Also, I'm happy they're going with a more arcadey feel. The WWE2k games have gotten as convoluted as other sports sims compared to the original Smackdown series games and the earlier games in the SVR series. Combine easy-to-learn, intuitive gameplay with deep customization modes and that's my ideal wrestling game.

I remember Saturday Night Slam Masters on Sega Genesis having barbed wire death matches with explosives at ringside. Single digit me loved it. The ECW games had barbed wire death matches they were less fun.
