I don't why I'm addressing this like it's a point with any real merit but...
The ECW games were basically ECW versions of Acclaim's WWF War Zone and Attitude games. Which weren't exactly good. This AEW game is something new entirely, and Yukes does a good job with wrestling games more often than not. And the times they haven't are due to the pressure from WWE and 2k to work under the grueling yearly release schedule.

But just because you did something good 20 years ago doesn’t mean you still do today. Most recent history shows they don’t as they released a ton of bad wwe games and it got them fired.

Yukes didn't get fired, they left because they were burned out by the yearly release schedule. And WWE 2k19 was pretty well received.

Hopefully with this leaking early THQ and Yukes can take some of the critism on board and show some proper match footage tomorrow. Not just the little bits in the Britt trailer but something more substantial. Just show something that will create some confidence.

Honestly, I don't know how anyone can be especially hyped or disappointed by this game at this point when all the information we've got is so disorganized. A couple of screenshots, some early development footage, a leaked promo video... None of that represents a full presentation of a game yet.
Hopefully, this showcase will give enough to get excited/disappointed about.

That trailer was such a tease. Thought Tony was finally gonna get to knock those boots… Pretty sure those were Jordans she was wearing

This is how you win the BTE belt in the game. I hope you're not joking, having the BTE title and BTE style segments in this game would go a LONG way in giving this game more personality and not just a generic wrestling game with AEW wrestlers in it.

Probably not enough time to address scattered complaints about the leaks but hopefully something snazzy. I'm hoping we get some real hands on impressions with a preview build at TGS next month if what Fightful reported is true. At least it wasn't like the KOTOR Remake where they spent so much time and energy on making a great sizzle reel that they fell way behind on actually making a game. And now that game might end up getting outright canned.

Hopefully, this showcase will give enough to get excited/disappointed about. Yeah the sweeping judgments based on so little are really bizarre to me. Either people really want this game to fail because they hate AEW, or they have such high expectations that anything that looks a bit rough around the edges (from incredibly early footage mind you) feels like a huge disappointment. I'd best describe my stance towards the game as cautiously optimistic. I haven't seen anything one way or another to rush to judgment about because there's practically nothing to really judge it on. Graphics that aren't cutting edge great or with some wonky animations? Stuff that can be worked on until and even past the day of release. Besides the best regarded wrestling games (AKI N64 games, Fire Pro) aren't lookers. As long as there aren't any WWE 2K20 monstrosities or game breaking glitches I don't really care that much. Mini-games? They could suck. Or they can be fun things to play with friends or watch streamers like NewLegacy play. If there's any BTE theming, it adds some personality to the game. I do think AEW and Kenny made a couple of mistakes in revealing the game so early in development when the average gamer doesn't really know how the average development cycle of modern games lasts (which can be several years without crunch). And setting a release date so early when the realities of the world since covid make delays almost inevitable. I hope they're open to delaying the release of the game a few months if it's not ready. Better to delay to make the game the best it can be instead of rushing it out and being tainted with a bad reputation. Even for games that can improve with patches and new content, that sort of thing can tank a game's lifespan. Just ask Fallout 76, Cyberpunk, Anthem, or Mass Effect Andromeda. Games that completely turn it around and get the good reputation and popularity with it like No Man's Sky and Final Fantasy XIV are very much the exception.

Most games aren't announced until some decent headway has been made on them but AEW's was announced on virtually nothing. I get that they wanted to announce AEW Games and that the announcement would have fallen flat without the inclusion of a console game, but it didn't do them any favors. Those really rough-looking first couple of shots should never have seen the light of day.

So, the only important thing to come out of the THQ Nordic show today is that the game will be playable at Gamescom in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to the hands on impressions.
There's also no Evil Uno kart racing minigame, which is disappointing.

Not too far away from Gamescom. Don't mind waiting a little bit longer since it's going to be handson impressions and not just a trailer.

So we still got a good half a year left of development and polish before release. Good. September 2022 seemed really unrealistic at this point. And if the game's good, better to stand out in a slow month for game sales like February than try to compete in the crowded holiday period.

Yeah, probably not the best timing to launch so close to a rival product that's inevitably gonna sell more.

Yeah, probably not the best timing to launch so close to a rival product that's inevitably gonna sell more. Or it could help build up hype, especially if it's good. It will inevitably be brought up for comparison which will spread the word more. It's a risk for sure but I could also see it getting more publicity this way. But the ultimate factor is the quality and the more time they have to work on it, the better.

That's a good chunk of time left to polish the game and keep working on it. Looking forward to seeing more info in a couple of weeks.

I also get the sense that the two will have separate audiences, especially if Fight Forever has more of an arcadey feel than the more sim-based 2K series.
