AEW Games Thread (AEW:FF on Playstation Plus in June)

This is either some kind of elaborate work to turn FTR heel(which would be stupid) or someone in the game’s development has something against FTR.


Just another dose of weirdness for AEW this week.

Up until their face turn, if I think about their defining attributes in AEW, I'd say 'had a truck once' and 'were the members of the Pinnacle with less interesting stuff to do than Shawn Spears'. If I were making a game with a trimmed down roster they wouldn't be my first priority, even if it is a bit out of character considering how they springboarded them to the tag titles over so many other deserving teams.

They are tag team champions and are insanely over wherever they go. Cutting them is stupid.

True. If there’s one thing the roster was missing it was a white dude with long hair.

Its really strange no matter how you slice it unless they just aren’t gonna have tag team shit in the game. Which considering how heavy the division is pushed as part of AEW’s identity. That can’t be the case. So why would their at their worst times 3rd biggest team on the show not be included

FTR being out for launch is weird but it wouldn't be Yukes if there weren't weird absences. Surely they're in as DLC though

I haven't owned a console since like a year after the PS4 dropped, as I'm not much of a video game guy, but it's awesome to see such good feedback already. They were getting tossed over the coals just about everywhere when the trailer dropped. I hope it's a big success for AEW.

I hope it's something along the lines of "FTR didn't want their likeness in this" vs "lol WHOOOOOPS" because that's a GLARING omission. Especially for a promotion that is known for loving tag team wrestling.

I don't know how legit this is (Fightful's reporting is generally solid for wrestling, but less of a known factor for video games), but I wouldn't be surprised at all if THQ, Yuke's, AEW or some combination of the three decided to make them as a DLC pack. Especially if the models were done already. It's shitty to do, but in terms of the video game industry in 2022, it's almost nothing. Which goes to show how awful this industry is when "person planned to be in base game taken out to be sold as DLC" is one of the less blatantly greedy things that could happen.

Probably doing FTR as DLC. Whether or not that bothers me depends on a variety of factors, like how expensive and how timely DLC will be.

Disapointing because they are one of the bigger teams in the company. Gonna be interesting to see who makes the cut.

Brandon Cutler was on Twitch and people were asking him questions. His response was "Guys, I didn't work on the game and I barely know anything about it." He would later follow that up with "What? Owen Hart is in the game? That's cool!" and "The game hasn't even come out yet and people are finding a reason to dislike it."

He joked that FTR were removed so that Punk and Danielson could be added. "The game has been in development for three years and they've been here for like, one year, so I'm sure sacrifices had to be made."

Other quotes after someone sent him a link of the announced roster include:
"People are saying Abadon isn't featured often, why is she on here? You can get THAT gimmick in a game! Why would you not do that?!"
"Aubrey is in it...or they just made the ref look a lot like her."
"Where is the Dark Order? I have no idea."
"Reported roster is supposed to be about 50 and I would assume our current roster is around 120 people...so if you're naming people you think should be in the game, you'll get to fifty REAL FAST."
After people kept asking, he guessed that FTR could be held back so there is a bigger name for DLC: essentially saying If the general wrestling audience sees Brandon Cutler on DLC, they're going to go "yeah, I can skip that one." So it's good to keep back some more popular guys.

Cutler would continue, "The one person I picked to play as...I know they're in the game and they have a full moveset...they haven't said their name yet..." Before trailing off and never leaking his moment.

He also, at one point, stated in what is probably the only really interesting thing I'll share: "Paul Wight is in the game and people were saying 'but he doesn't really wrestle' but Kenny told me it was because they wanted as many different body sizes to be adapted into the game for the create-a-wrestler."

An ROH expansion pack would make sense to add Yuta(wasn't doing much until this summer), Claudio(debuted this summer), and FTR(between their match with Young Bucks at Full Gear and Death Before Dishonor did very very very little). Not to mention any other potential ROH guys, ontop of the belts and arena. Especially since Cutler makes a good point.

Like I said in my previous post, my understanding is that FF is somewhat of a long term project, kind of like how Fire Pro kept adding DLC Like the Stardom packs, Move Craft, and Parts Craft after the initial announced releases. I doubt it's going to be a yearly release, instead adding wrestlers (and possibly features) to the initial 50 person roster. So I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we saw FTR in a DLC pack. I wish they were in the base game, but I'm not losing hope yet that they won't be in there.

I could be wrong, but I do think they said it's not going to be yearly, exactly, already, which is probably a good move for the time being.

You don’t need to hold FTR for DLC when Danhausen is the ideal first candidate for DLC.

Because surely if you want to see Danhausen in your game, you’re gonna need to give up some human monies.

Kinda think it's bullshit that former tag team champions are not in the game, honestly.

Doubly bullshit if the plan is to milk out more money from consumers by having wrestlers who have been with the company for three years be PAID downloadable content.
