I’m not sure why pointing out the high ratings of football makes someone a fanboy but pointing out NXT and AEW doing poorly against say the election or basketball gameS (which get lower ratings than MNF) is not an issue? Do you really think Raw did an all time low rating because of a Baltimore Ravens - Cleveland Browns mid season game? Lamar Jackson and possible playoff implications between two smaller market teams led to Raw getting historically bad ratings? I don't think you're a troll Polarbear, but there is a huge anti-AEW troll community who always have an excuse for why WWE does poorly, and why AEW isn't really doing all that well. And using MNF to excuse why Raw did historically bad, and then say "Well Thatcher isn't good for ratings" to explain why AEW is beating NXT by 250%, is just missing the point. I think the MNF game being highly rated in the demo probably has something to do with Raw’s rating, yes. Obviously Raw’s year over year audience is still eroding little by little since around 2014 (when they were around 4 million live viewers per week) so the overall ratings trend is part of a long-term shrinking of the audience.

MnF clearly impacted Raw for sure. I do think though it is a valid discussion to have about whether or not Raw is taking the right steps to draw fans back on a weekly basis I don’t think they’re taking any real steps. The shows are good 1.5-2 hour shows that are dragged to 3 hours because USA pays a premium to get 3 hours of top rated programming. That kills the show from a standpoint of attracting new viewers and even retaining old viewers. Going to be tough to get significant growth in viewership while it’s still 3 hours long. Smackdown on the other hand (and Dynamite most weeks) is a great two-hour show that’s enjoyable and easy to digest and has maintained its audience through the pandemic. Not to mention live TV is a dying breed and I don’t even know who is watching any shows live with commercials (outside of sporting events). I can’t remember the last time I watched a show live, I always at least wait until enough time has passed that I can forward through all of the commercials.

I mean, I posted about the MNF game’s demo number this week. Does that make someone an anti-AEW troll? Little harsh. We don't know if they are anti-aew. But they are clearly making excuse for WWE. When MNF did same rating it did a week ago. Not to mention Raw has been going up against football for 27 years. Bringing up anything about football game. Instead of acknowledging that theres a problem with how WWE booking Raw. Well they come off as WWE fanboy. You can bring up WWE'a booking problems and the MNF game as reasons for their poor rating this past Monday, Because both played a hand in the rating. And bringing them up doesn't make everyone a fan boy. Whenever AEW pulls a bad rating or gets beat by NXT and when some of their fans bring up every excuse possible does that make them fan boys? To blame it all on the MNF game is wrong, But dismissing the game's impact on Raw's rating is wrong also.

As a wrestling show, I'd rather be up against a football game then another wrestling show. Using high MNF ratings is a crutch. So you would rather go up against a game that Averages 14 million than any wrestling show ?

I think that's a legitimate question - is it better to go up against a show that gets 14 millions viewers, some indeterminate number of whom might watch wrestling; or to go up against a show that gets 600,000 viewers, all of whom demonstrably watch wrestling? The number of "gettable" viewers within the former is difficult to know, and could be anywhere from 0 to 600,000 to a few million; the number of "gettable" viewers in the latter is closer to 100%.

NXT stays on Wednesdays, even though it gets higher ratings on Tuesdays, to hurt AEW's growth. Football is not a direct competitor to wrestling. No more then South Park or Real Housewives. Wrestling is a DIRECT competitor to wrestling.

Raw’s numbers each year typically go down when MNF is on, especially for a big game which indicates some viewers are leaving to watch football. Comparatively, when AEW has no NXT opposing it the numbers go up a bit as well. Not sure which number is higher, Raw’s loss against MNF or AEW’s gain when there’s no NXT. Obviously if it was a wrestling show that gets 14 million viewers that would be something you don’t want to go against as compared to a football game with the same numbers. But when the wrestling show is getting 600K vs. the 14 million football game its a tougher question.

Come on, wrestling versus wrestling is a real rivalry, wrestling versus football isn't.

Why are we having a discussion about football relating to this?
Hell, even in the prime of the Monday Night Wars, neither company was close to any football game in terms of viewership. Demos, yeah, it got to be a genuine concern for ABC at least but by that logic, most TV companies aren’t going to go up against football.
By that logic, the target audience for The Big Bang Theory was the same and that got massive ratings, why wouldn’t you put THAT on Mondays? Because it’d be dumb.

I’m talking about the effects of competition from MNF vs. a lesser wrestling show In terms of viewers lost. When NXT was preempted, AEW went up x thousand of viewers, when MNF starts Raw usually loses x number of viewers. I am curious what is the bigger drop it’s likely not too far off.

AEW was up about 150K the two weeks they were unopposed. They will, notably, be unopposed next week, but it will be because of NBA Game pre-emption, so they might not be on air until like 11PM. So those numbers will be fascinating.

So those numbers will be fascinating. They've held up pretty well the two times they've followed the NBA (Late Night Dynamite and Saturday Night Dynamite). Lower overall viewership but did well in the key demo. An advantage here is it's still somewhat early and on the same night. I'm curious what's on next week's card to serve as a hook. Regardless of the final number, they'll get a huge lead in that will feature a ton of new viewers.

To blame it all on the MNF game is wrong, But dismissing the game's impact on Raw's rating is wrong also. The week before NFL ratings were higher. The only difference this week is this week before didn't watch Raw as much. Which there clearly is a reason for. Also yes when AEW fans do that it does make them fanboys. That said AEW hasn't really lost in the ratings since December 18th 2019. So there's no reason for AEW fans to respond that way. When NXT beats them in overall viewership here and there. The problem is fans on social media are at war. So they feel like they need to over defend their show. Even when it doesn't deserve to be defended. For example Raw bad and been bad a lot in 2020. Which is why the ratings have dropped so much this year. Instead of fans saying good the ratings should be down. Hoping it leads to change. It turns into defending the WWE and coming up with excuses. Because WWE fans feel like they gotta defend the company against AEW fans. Just like tonight Dynamite was huge disappointment for AEW IMO. It deserves big drop in ratings. Fans Should want that to teach AEW an lesson they need to put on better show when they got momentum like this. But most fans will still be hoping for 900k plus and .42 demo tomorrow. Because if it drops to 800k and say .35 demo. WWE fans will give them a hard time etc. Little social media war between fan bases. Causes excuses from both fan bases to defend their product. Instead of either side saying. Yeah that sucked these shows need to be better. Nobody can be honest and just leads to both sides being defensive. At end of the day Dynamite deserves rating to drop tomorrow. Just as Raw did this week and this whole year. It's not end of the world for either show. But Raw needs a lot of work and fresh faces pushed to the top. Like Heyman was trying to do before they fired him. While AEW can't put on filler shows when try are trying to build audience.

And nice way to indirectly call me a WWE fanboy by saying “they” even though you’re replying to my post. Election is once every four years. That is something rare that could effect ratings. Bringing that up is something that justified for either Raw, Smackdown or AEW. But anyone saying AEW ratings were down because NBA regular season games. Well thats making excuse because it faces that competition every week. Just like Raw with MNF. Now not everyone is WWE fanboy who using MNF game as an excuse. But majority of people bringing it up on social media etc. Are WWE fanboy who are making excuses for the low numbers by bringing up MNF. Instead of saying the show isn't good and changes need to be made. Facts are if WWE put on better show they ratings wouldn't have dropped so much. No matter what MNF rating was, especially when MNF rating was down from the week before I heard.

But the MNF ratings typically do way better than even the NBA playoff games do as a point of comparison. “Regular season” for football is still a huge deal due to their being only 16 games.
