#193 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows
*Prime
It's an improvement over the first because it's a bit wackier. There are still too many lame jokes and too much Michael Bay but beyond that, it was decent. [**½]

78. Brewster's Millions (1945)79. Star Trek: First Contact (1996) 80. Captain America (1979) 81. Captain America II: Death Too Soon (1979)Apparently I wasted my $3.99 as I've discovered that both movies are available for free on Tubi. So the first movie was mostly a whole lot of build-up to an underwhelming pay-off. Will this one be any better? Eh, not really. It opens up well with Cap taking down some street thugs who are robbing the elderly of their social security checks, but after that it just kinda stalls. The middle of this is mostly boring lab scenes and Steve Rogers just futzing around some podunk town hoping to find information. This might've worked if Reb Brown was a more exciting or charismatic actor, but he's not so it wasn't. The ending was more exciting then the last movie, but Christopher Lee's villain was so under-developed that you never really care what happens to him. In the end we get a movie that's only slightly less "meh" then its predecessor.

171. Things* *Tubi* This is what I really wanted from the Brain Sucker the other night. And from every movie other movie I’ve ever watched in my life. A complete shitty mess of a movie with terrible lighting, effects, sound editing, music selection (I think they got the soundtrack for this mixed up with some other movie), acting and everything else. I’d wager that the catering was absolutely terrible. The sound editing is where it really shines. I don’t think there was one moment that wasn’t done in post-production by people who possibly hadn’t seen the movie and were just reading scripts. And speaking of reading scripts; the one news anchor who’s clearly reading her lines off a teleprompter or someone holding cue-cards up for her should be entered into the hallowed halls of S.O.V. legend. f***ing. Incredible.

172. Ninja Scroll *DVD* I’m not the hugest anime fan but this is one I’ve always loved; not just as an anime but as a movie. I’ve been watching it since the mid-1990’s and even though this was the first time I’ve seen it in at least 20 years I couldn’t believe how much of it was fresh in my mind. The only problem I’ve ever had with it is how easily the Eight Demons of Kimon are dispatched. Part of me wishes it was a tv series so they could have been featured more over the course of multiple episodes; part of me wishes there were maybe only three or four of them so they could have gotten more screen time here. But a bigger part of me is happy with what it is and leaving the rest up to what’s left of my imagination.

78. Brewster's Millions (1945)79. Star Trek: First Contact (1996) 80. Captain America (1979)As I said in a previous post, I've been trying to watch all the pre-X-Men Marvel movies I can find. The old Reb Brown Captain America TV movies have been particularly difficult to track down. Today I broke down and decided to just pay the $3.99 and watch the first one on Amazon streaming. This is pretty meh. Reb Brown plays Steve Rogers as kind of a meathead, Steve doesn't suit up as Cap until more then 2/3rds of the way through the movie, and the ending is pretty anti-climatic, with Cap doing little more then trying to stop the bad guy from suffocating. But if you like those cheesy old late-70's/early-80's action shows like Bionic Woman, Knight Rider and The A-Team, and I do to a degree, then this is a perfectly cromulent entry into that genre. Now, how am I gonna find the sequel? Because it is not on Amazon streaming. Shout Factory released both the Cap TV movies on DVD a few years back. I got that to replace my old bootlegs. Best Little Whorehouse in Texas-DVD-7 outta 10 Decent movie. But I'm not that big on musicals. Still worth watching.

#194 - The Long Dumb Road
*Netflix
There's nothing about this premise that sticks out and it doesn't have the wild gags that other road trip comedies do. However, it works because Revolori and Mantzoukas have great chemistry and the film is at its best when they're just talking. I enjoyed it. [***]

What's Eating Gilbert Grape-Netflix-8 outta 10
Discovered earlier today that my lady had never seen this. Which is odd cause she is a huge Juliette Lewis fan. Checked Justwatch and saw it was on Netflix. So we watched it while she was stuck at work. And really it is a film that isn't hurt too much watching it on a phone.

#195 - The Tomorrow War
*Prime
This was mostly a good time. The sci-fi action worked well, the CGI was pretty good, and it mostly keeps you engaged. It's just that the attempts at emotion really miss the mark. When the film takes itself too seriously, it struggles. Also, while Strahovski and Richardson are both good, Pratt feels like he's phoning it in. [***]

116. Chuck & Buck - Watched this on Tubi. If I hadn't watched Double Toasted's review on 2 Fast 2 Furious, I never would have watched it, and because of it, I'm glad I found out about it. One thing you should know is that despite being listed as a comedy, it really isn't a comedy. Hell, this movie is awkward, but it's supposed to be. It's basically about this man-child (and I mean a man-child because this guy never really grew out of childhood despite being an adult) who wants to reconnect with an old childhood friend. Of course, it goes deeper than that and it gets a little creepy, but not in the way you would think. You almost feel for the character of Buck, but also can relate to Chuck with his feelings in the matter. It tells a good story about growing up and not being too fixated on the past.

#196 - Feat Street Part One: 1994
*Netflix
I had a blast with this. It kept me entertained throughout, featured some enjoyable characters, and paid homage to classic horror slashers well. I liked the '90s vibes and how it set up things for the later installments while feeling like its own story. [***½]

173. The Inheritor* *DVD* I bought this on the strength of the trailer I saw last year on some other DVD being pretty grim and the cover being badass. It ended up being one of the most boring movies I’ve watched this year. It was advertised as a horror movie but it seemed to me to just be a shit-tier 1990’s straight-to-video psychological thriller that wasn’t thrilling at all. There was a part with some cool looking skeletons! I wish I knew what DVD I saw that trailer on so I could revisit it and see what I saw in it. I remember it looked like something from the late-1970’s grindhouse circuit. Very, very, very (did I say “very”?) disappointing.

174. Street Trash *bluray* If there’s a movie that lives up to its title it’s Street Trash. A movie so greasy that it makes the Toxic Avenger look classy. Everything gross you could imagine dialled to “11”. Technicolor melting, burping, farting, monkey in the middle with a penis, random puking and greatest chemistry you’ll ever see between James Lorinz (of Frankenhooker fame) and Tony Darrow as the doorman and the mob boss. Those two steal the movie. The ending is so f***ed up too. It just…ends.

80. Captain America (1979) 81. Captain America II: Death Too Soon (1979) 82. Bruce Almighty (2003)
Here's another movie I've always heard about but never really got up enough interest to watch. It was on Peacock so I thought I'd give it a go. I can see why I never bothered with it before. The beginning and end felt like some weird Pure Flix comedy sandwiched in between some mediocre Jim Carrey shenanigans. Just wasn't feeling it. Did make me vaguely curious about the sequel, just to see if Steve Carell can do something more interesting with the idea.

#197 - Saw V
*Blu-Ray
I think that the biggest issue with this one is that all of the interesting characters have been killed off by this point. The hero and villain in this one are both unlikable and some of the traps just feel uninspired. [*½]

175. The Burning Moon *DVD* I only watched this a few months ago but I had zero memory of it other than it taking a great turn towards the end, so I had to watch it again. It’s too “real movie”. It’s got the German sleaze gore but just not enough. Too much story not enough gory. It is funny how everyone is so pissed off at everything and everyone all the time.

#198 - Lady and the Tramp (1955)
*Disney+
One of the better early Disney movies. It tells a simple, easy to get invested in story. Also, I can't root against dogs, so the aunt character is a true villain. [***]
