Yes, I know what I wrote in the subject line. There was a video game in 1994 that was called Raw Is War. Predating the show by about two and a half years.
I know that the AVGN gave (and all of LGN games) a bad review and this one was no exception. But I think it was a great game for its time. Nowadays, it doesn’t. It improved on Royal Rumble where they
- added the 4x4 Survivior Series match in addition to the Royal Rumble match - gave you the option to choose your opponent(s) (something that is now a must in video games. Back than, some games choose your opponent for you which I HATED since the CPU would always choose the wrong opponent) - They had a Bedlam match where it’s just a regular tag team match with no tagging. That was ahead of its time - they had Mega Moves for each wrestler (i found out in 2017 that the reason that they added it because of the popularity of Mortal Kombat) - They had weapons like a bucket and the ring bell (back then, that was a big deal - They had a match that to this day, has never been done before. A Raw endurance match (think of what a gauntlet match would be like if both sides had six wrestlers). Only problem. The game only had 12 wrestlers. So when you picked your team, you knew who your opponents would be.
I had this game for the SNES. Unfortunately, my game bit the dust way too soon (around 1996). I loved doing the Survivor Series matches but if I got a working copy of the game, I wouldn’t play it now because it hasn’t held up. (One of the reasons is due to the fact that all the wrestlers in the game are not on the active WWE roster anymore.
Also, I find it funny in hindsight that the game’s tag line was “Wrestling’s rudest and roughest” and this was BEFORE the Attitude era and the game got what would now be an E for Everyone rating by the ESRB. (Back than, it got the now defunct K-A rating which was short for Kids thru adults)

Loved this game, rented it like 5 or 6 times from the local Blockbuster Video.
Honestly, I think it still holds up, definitely one of the best non-Super-Fire-Pro wrestling games from the 16-bit era.

It's not my kind of thing, but it's definitely something you can have an afternoon of fun with.

We had this for Sega Genesis and played it non-stop. Bedlam tournaments on 10 difficulty was my brother and I’s favorite thing. I doubt I could win one grapple on 10 difficulty now. I love the roster and the graphic style. As fun as WrestleMania the Arcade Game and Royal Rumble were, I think Raw is the best WWF game of the 8 or 16 bit eras.

Diesel's Mega Move was the greatest. He'd just chuck his opponent up into the sky, off screen, to come crashing back down into the ring.

I enjoyed that if you knocked down the ref enough times, he would just wave his hands and leave.

They’ve aged horribly, but I’ll always have a soft spot for Raw and Royal Rumble

still prefer RR myself
thought it was slightly less polished and the inclusion of luna vachon was a bit of a turnoff for me, and to be honest it felt like a bit of a backwards move for the franchise ...
*checks box under bed* ... yep, still have my megadrive copy ...
wish i had a mega-cd and rage in a cage instead ... YES I SAID THAT!

My favorite of the LJN WWF games.
The Mega Moves were insane, and I also liked hitting opponents with the bucket.

That's a good point, the game was actually ahead of its time, a proto Attitude era product.

people always mention the mega moves, but I never see anyone talk about the REALLY crazy shit:
like if you pick Bam Bam, go to the ropes and input whatever 1-2-3 Kid's mega move is... Bigelow will literally morph into a palette-swapped 1-2-3 Kid and do his mega move instead!
It definitely worked with others in the game too, not just Bam Bam

Was this the first WWF (possibly overall wrestling) game to feature outside interference? I swear I remember another guy running in and attacking my guy one time during a match. And my uncle having it happen to him years earlier.

And my uncle having it happen to him years earlier. Yes, it was. I remember buying this game in 1998 and this game came out before I became a wrestling fan. I was familiar with the game as I remember my uncle renting it, but I bought it around the time I became a wrestling fan. I was a bit shocked to see someone interfering in a match. I don't know what I did to trigger it or if it was related to any angles at the time. I know that WCW/nWo Revenge, as well as Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy doing it, same with the Smackdown games, but the interferences were related to any storylines from the time of their respective releases.

Got it for the SNES on Christmas 1995 and played the absolute hell out of it for many year. It wasn’t until years later that I discovered each wrestler had mega moves.

LOVED this game back in the day..... me & my friends found out you could beat up the ref & if you did it enough he’d walk away & let us have no DQ brawls to the death Always thought Luna was a weird inclusion but I loved her theme music so was all good.
