I have no idea what on earth he was trying to accomplish with the interview. Its so tone death, so lacking in self-awareness, so utterly arrogant and self-serving. He might be the first person where 'cancelling sticks You know it's a complete debacle of an interview (well, in terms of helping him, it's very well written) when the most immediate comparison I could draw would be R. Kelly's interview trying to defend himself in the wake of "Surviving R. Kelly." It's that bad a defense.

This guy still has a career. Whedon will be back at some point. I really, really, really hate to defend Mel Gibson and I absolutely cannot stress that enough but… Gibson kept his mouth shut. From what I remember, after everything happened, he stayed out of the limelight and that counted as “forgiveness” apparently, but that’s what happened. Right. He offered his apology (a terrible one at that, if I remember right) and otherwise shut the f*** up and went away for a little bit.

He's too much of a proven success to be blackballed from an industry as sleazy as Hollywood. He'll most likely end up writing and creating for one of the streaming services under a pseudonym. If there's money to be made, someone will find a role for him. His name was the only thing he had going for him. His brand is shot. He's done.

His work may not be everyones taste but it is very popular. However his work is very distinctive so I think people might end up seeing through a psuedonym.

Nah, his body of work includes too many hits and shows with cult followings for his name to be all he had. Some streaming service will throw work his way on the downlow, or Fox will do so openly as he has an existing relationship with them and they don't give a bleep about optics.

I just don't see it happening. Too many powerful people in Hollywood don't like him anymore and honestly, interviews like this one only prolong him being on the outs. Even his biggest fans are grappling with the fact that he was behind shows like Buffy/Angel and having to separate the art from the artist. Yes, there are a ton of streaming services out there right now and yes they need content, but there are countless creators out there that don't have his baggage. Never say never, I guess, but it seems like the difference with stuff like this is that Hollywood personnel who are shitty outside of work seem to be able to come back, but when you're actually shitty on set, it's harder.

I wouldn't be surprised if SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE gave him a shot. But it'll be a far lower level, for far less money, A list he's done but there will be someone far enough down the totem pole that thinks it's worth a shot.

Whedon's excuses are right up there with Rodman telling Carmen Electra that the two strippers she caught him in bed with 'must have fallen through the ceiling when I was asleep'.

Whedon will hide under a new name and create a hard hitting cop drama for a streaming service.
However, he will be discovered when one of the cops says "we need to do the cop thing and detective the crime scene where the murdery thing happened"

His horrible behaviour isn't a new thing, he's been an a-hole since the 90s and like most bullies, he's never targetted anyone above him on the totem pole, the biggest name he's gone up against is Gal Gadot and while she's a rising star, she's not exactly A-list. He doesn't have a reputation for going at TV execs, he managed to work at Marvel while Ike Perlmutter was running things without losing it at them, so people who haven't been directly affected by his behaviour will be far more willing to forgive and forget, just look at Mel Gibson. Hell, Mel's good buddy Jim Caviezel was an out and out psycho on the set of Person of Interest and that didn't stop him getting work. Unfortunately the bar for acceptable behaviour is low for proven moneymakers in hollywood is super low, the only way we'll trully see the back of Whedon is if he's behind a string of flops.

The sad thing is, most of his projects being niche successes at best is probably going to be more damaging in the long run to Whedon's reputation and a barrier to future employment than these abuse allegations.
Yes, he has his Avengers movies to his name. But as Infinity War and Endgame showed, they succeeded because of the franchise, not because of Joss.
