My guess is the one who beats Reigns might just be Jey. I can’t think of anyone else. People say this but like…Jey lost. Twice. Both definitely. One was a Hell in a Cell match. You’d just be retreading old ground and that’s before you even consider him actually winning the title.

As I said before, and I know I’m in the minority, I’m a big Reigns fan. This current character is amazing, so I have no issues with him retaining from a fan standpoint. However, from a storyline standpoint, that was Cody being Luger’d. I’m sure he will still be over but they will never get the same momentum back. The story was Cody winning the title his father never could, and yes there’s still time for him to do it in the future, but this is the hottest he might ever be with the crowd. In wrestling if you don’t strike when the iron is hot then you risk never getting that moment that you’re looking for. My guess is the one who beats Reigns might just be Jey. I can’t think of anyone else.Nah, never Jey. Seth. Who then drops it to Cody, setting up a Roman return vs Cody program later. It'll all be too little too late, but Seth never lost, so has the story built in, and he and Cody seem to have the 'ever rivals' thing going. Hmm, you might be right. I didn't even think of Rollins. I assumed Reigns had already beaten him during this run, but if it ended in a no contest, then you're right they can revisit that pretty easily (never mind the Shield backstory which writes itself). I thought of Jey only from a "end the Bloodline from within + build a new star" mindset, plus the crowd seems ready to cheer him anyway, but Rollins has way more credibility as a threat/character.

Jey winning would be like the underdog story that WWE always fumbles but on steroids. He’s literally only interesting because of this story. The minute you take him out of it, it’s going to be boring. He’s not the guy.

Last night's baffling result makes sense now. Don't want to rock the boat in the middle of a sale.
Lame.

It will end with Jey It was always meant to end with Jey. I assume it's to end AFTER Reigns beats Hogan's 4 year reign

Call me crazy....I know it'd be seen as a massive kneejerk reaction to the pissed off fanbase, but there's a teeny part of me that sees him dropping it tonight.

I think this gets glossed over too much but it needs saying, Paul Heyman is absolutely trash at his job. Be it now with Roman or before when he was with Brock his entire damn thing is telling people, "You're a shitty loser who has no chance in hell, I'm literally laughing at the prospect that you think you might win," and then they lose. Dude constantly makes people look completely goddamn terrible because he never puffs them up or sells fear during builds or anything. He's always completely assured his client's winning and he's always completely correct. Good example that has always stuck with me, preshow to Mania 32 where he was asked what if Ambrose won and responded by just laughing uncontrollably and then sure enough, Mox got completely destroyed so Heyman looked entirely correct to dismiss him as a joke. I'll be glad when his bald fat ass finally goes away for good so we never have to hear him ramble on anymore.

I'm still beside myself that WWE does like four serious months of build to Mania, calls the Rumble the start of the Road to Mania, and then has a complete filler PPV in Elimination Chamber for Mania... just for the Main Event of the show to be a f***ing punch to the nuts and a "Find out what happens tomorrow!" Imagine writing a show like this where you get to a Season Finale, they kill the main character and the villain wins... but it's been renewed for two more seasons, and they were well aware of that, they just did it anyway and said "Keep watching it'll be cool"... just absolutely dumbfounded that "The biggest wrestling show of the year" hasn't really felt like it's ended a grand story since maybe Kofi won the title. The show where there is supposed to be climactic triumph is starting to just become a big filler ad that doesn't accomplish much of anything, especially when it comes to the Main Event And like yeah it's still Mania, it's still gonna sell a bajillion tickets because it's Mania... but it's really losing what made it WrestleMania imo Hope your sitting down… I agree.

Also....for the love of god SPLIT THE f***ING TITLES!
THAT is what's bothering me the most about it all. Has been, and continues to. His record is with the Universal, right? Let him keep that one for 20 years for all I care.

You’d just be retreading old ground and that’s before you even consider him actually winning the title. True, but those losses happened in 2020 (I think) so it's amazingly been 3 years since that happened. The Bloodline storyline is more prominent now, the Uso's are a bigger deal now, and Jey's gotten positive crowd reactions lately. If they wanted to, I think they can build it back up to where Jey would be a logical opponent. Of course there's no chance they could ever get Jey to be as over as Cody was before WM, so even if they went that direction it wouldn't be as effective as Cody winning would have been last night. Rollins is more over now than he's probably ever been, so he might be the best available option, but I feel like a 3 year run should end with something meaningful. Cody winning would have been meaningful. Even Jey winning would be meaningful as it at least ties into 3 years worth of storytelling. Rollins would just be an already established top guy winning the title. Wouldn't have the same juice behind it IMO. Maybe Gunther is another option. He'd make sense as well to establish a new star.

They've now passed three points where ending the reign would've created an all time moment- Drew, Sami, and now Cody.
I was pissed after Drew but I got it, the Cody moment had to be protected.
I was convinced Sami had done enough for them to pivot to him, but again, got over it cause Cody was still super over and Sami and KO's title win on Saturday just set it up for Sunday beautifully.
But now? Nah man you've missed it. You've f***ed it up. That was it. And now its gone and when it does finally happen, it won't be as good as it could've been had it happened last night.
Don't matter who it is, how well they build it up, what reaction they can get- last night was the moment, and the moment is gone, forever. You will never get that opportunity again. f***ing goofs.

Can we make peace with this if we think of Roman as the Harlem Globetrotters of WWE?

Funny that this was the last time Roman was made to look weak.

Honestly, as soon as the finish happened I laughed.
I quit watching WWE on the reg years ago and moved to watching pretty much just AEW exclusively. I came back to see where things were going. Things looked good. The booking was logical. KO and Sami were going to take down the Usos, and Cody was going to have his big coronation. It finally felt like the ship had been righted after years of questionable "Eh, f*** it, we got our money anyway" booking.
Well, the WWE managed to play me yet again. I didn't lose sleep over it, I mean... it's JUST wrestling, but it's pretty clear that WWE has put creative on the back burner.
Ah well, is what it is. At least Uncle Tony still puts out a product I enjoy since Papa H doesn't.

It's wild because the only way - really I think the only way - to have the reign come to another conclusion that would feel this natural involves poaching a talent from another company who just signed a 5 year deal in October. Oh well, I guess Reigns vs McGregor will be successful

I'm not against Cody losing in theory but this felt like the time. I know people like the "he hasn't faced adversity" thing but I don't really think he needed that. The KO/Sami combo on Roman into Cody doing Dusty and Goldust moves before his own felt like the perfect way to end.
Also, at least be more creative with the finish. Solo shows up and cheats again. Like, that's it?

No one is going to beat Roman. He is going to retire and surrender the titles. He’ll say something along the lines of “you’ll win them but you won’t win them beating me.”

I'm so bored with this run that I can't even enjoy the prospect of Roman losing the belts anymore.
He could slip on a banana peel and lose and I wouldn't care to watch the pin.
