I think if Herb were still alive he'd be looked at in a much more positive way. I think many would put him on the same pedestal as McMahon, Bischoff and Heyman if he were still alive. All three men were not always successful. Two of those men saw a company die under their promotion. McMahon twice with XFL, Heyman with ECW. Bischoff winds up getting off, but barely, based on the timing of WCW going out of business. He had a hand in it dying just as much as anyone. Herb was much like a Paul Heyman in the way he did business in lying and making guys believe there was more to the promotion. If Herb lives, he is seen in the same light as McMahon, Bischoff and Heyman-very positively by majority of fans.

Heyman is looked at that way not just because of his ability to work the boys but by the success of ECW as a whole. The fan base was rabid and unfortunately, the UWF never developed one. It was a failed passion play of a flawed and charismatic man.

Good times! I miss this UWF, it was must-see TV for me. The Fury Hour was a dollar-store version of WWF and the ring action was nowhere near the greatness of Bill Watts Presents UWF circa 1986. As bad as the Herb Abrams version of UWF was, I was entertained. I didn’t order Beach Brawl PPV (no one did, apparently) yet I put it together on VHS because they gave it all away little by little in the weeks that followed. The main event of Terry Gordy vs. Johnny Ace was a helluva fight as Ace lit up Gordy for six straight minutes. I didn’t know he had it in him!

Most folks who know the UWF remember the bigger names Abrams was able to sign or who he used in the biggest spots. People like Steve Williams, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Paul Orndorff. But looking at the wrestlers a step below that its obvious how much Abrams was scrapping the bottom of the barrel of mainstream US wrestling in 1990-1994. He had stars like... B. Brian Blair Colonel DeBeers And whoever this guy is:

I still think if Herb lives he will be remembered more fondly. Outside of WWF and WCW at the time a lot of guys had no where else to go in the U.S. and Herb gave them a place to work even if the checks bounced. Most of these were guys that WWF and WCW didn't want at the time and were probably grateful pre-check bouncing to Herb. Also Andre was a huge signing even though it didn't work out. Andre was a guy who should have been a lifer in WWF and Herb had the guts to get him to come along, even though it didn't work out.

Not technically from UWF, but I was watching episode 16 of Fury Hour on YouTube. The video leaves the commercials intact. At the tail end there is a spot for Pool the Masters Way. It’s a video hosted by pool player Steve Mizerak, but he prefers to be called
