Ok so what’s next? How do u top that? I think AEW's next step should be having a women's title defense in the Dynamite main event within the next month or two, preferably while Shida is still champ. I wouldn't know who she'd defend against (I suppose that's what those rankings would be for), but Baker should be off TV until this match and return after it to do some kind of angle that sets her up as the next PPV challenger.

Great match. All the praise. I really wish they’d have the champ Shida get all the shine they give some others. Let her get a blood feud. Let her squash a jobber in 3 moves. Appreciate your champ AEW In fairness to Shida, she has the quickest match in AEW History I think. She beat Red Velvet (Before she ever got a push) in like three seconds.

I thought it was Alex Gracia she beat super quick. Maybe she did it with both? Orange Cassidy beating Will Hobbs might be faster still, granted.

Nah it's definitely the Velvet match I think, that bell rang, Shida knee'd her into another dimension, she pinned her, and immediately rolled out and did a staredown with Penelope Ford since that was her title feud at the time She beat Gracia pretty quick too though but I think Gracia lasted like two minutes.

Shida beat Gracia in a match that also had her getting sidetracked by Abadon, so the match was longer if not actually less one-sided.

Meltzer went 4.75 stars. Little high for me. He said it was up there with Sasha vs. Charlotte from Raw, Sasha vs. Bayley in Brooklyn, and Charlotte vs. Becky at Evolution for the best US women’s matches.

My Fite account started glitching out before the main event so I couldn't watch it on my usual Thursday evening spot and had to watch it this afternoon... talk about worth the wait.
I'm putting this out there, since coming back from breaking her face Britt has become the best psycho in all of wrestling. When she does that smile into the camera I believe that she's completely unhinged, she just has 'it'. Rebel not Reba and her filthy laugh just adds a whole other dimension to it too.

It was a fantastic match with at least one iconic moment: an exhausted Britt smiling at the camera while bleeding a gusher.

Love seeing that ratings went up for them, as I just got a news thing from google from an annoying clickbait site have the headline "HUGE RATING DROP FOR AEW WOMEN MAIN EVENT" (seriously does google always have to reward terrible "reporting" like that putting it in their news?)

This has to be the match of the year so far.
I don't want blood all the time and hate the idea of blading but there's no denying it can help create iconic images (think Austin in the sharpshooter, Vince's bloody face peering over the ring apron at Wrestlemania 19 or Becky after getting her nose busted by Nia) and Britt here is another example.

Up there with Fenix and Omega for MOTY contender. Year is still young and there will no doubt be some bangers, but those will be hard to top...

That match outdid the Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch in spades for me in terms of brutality, the match of course, I'm not counting the ending. That may be one of my favorite women's matches of all time. Both these girls are stars, Britt Baker a bloody mess is the perfect example of "Red makes Green". Absolutely deserving of AEW's first ever women's main event, and an amazing bar to set for the girls. When Rosa's NWA contract is up, AEW better throw a money truck at her. The shot when she smiled into the camera, covered in blood. That was a goddamn starmaking moment. That's one of the shots we're all going to be sick of seeing one day because it will be so iconic of this point in her career. I can't say enough good things about this match. A goddamn masterpiece of the form. Reminded me of Edge/Foley, or Orton/Foley - I never thought Britt had this kind of match in her. And it seems like it was booked specifically to say 'hey, you never expected me to do this shit, right?' She took some gnarly bumps, took a near-Dustin level blade job. I'm not even a fan of blood any more but women so rarely get the opportunity to have a storyline that warrants this level of brutality anyway. Just wow. Numerous moments in this match I gasped out loud in an empty room when the spots hit. From the second Britt hit the tacks, my hands were covering my mouth in shock for the entire rest of the match. Like another favourite of mine, Cena/Punk from MITB, it's that rare match where the slight sloppiness of some of the spots added immensely to the effect. And it's a small thing, but Britt punching Rosa right in the blade hole was some old school carny shit, and signified what was to come. What a match. What a match. Probably in my AEW top 10 so far. I will be AMAZED if they book a match this year that I like more than this one.

Match of the year so far for me. Said it in the rate the dynamite thread as well but this is definitely a star making match for both. Britt Baker is a licence to print money.

Ok fine AEW you win, turns out matches like PNP vs Best Friends weren't a freak exception and I still do like hardcore matches afterall. As long as the phycology is there. Breaking lockjaw by rolling it onto tacks just sums up what I want from such matches. Yet for all the crazy action they still both had their characther moments.
They also escalated things(mostly) logically. Compare it to Dustin and QT vs Buther and Blade where the high points were mid-match and the blood felt pointless.

Yeah Meltzer not giving this the full 5 is ridiculous. Thought the same thing about Sasha/Bayley years ago.

Yeah Meltzer not giving this the full 5 is ridiculous. Thought the same thing about Sasha/Bayley years ago. Meltzer/The Observer is so bizarre these days...I get wanting to keep 5-star matches rare and special, but in a world where 6+ star matches now exist, if that’s not a 5-star match then I really don’t know what is.

I can see an argument for it starting a little slow and not quite hitting perfection.
If any of y'all think he snubs matches by giving them 9.5/10, then I strongly recommend taking that to mean that his ****3/4-rated matches are worth seeking out.
