I had my covid booster yesterday and am feeling rough, so unfortunately there will be another slight delay on episode 4.
Ok, that's enough of a delay (you should have seen your face, the reaction was hilarious) lets get on with it.
S02E04 – Cero MiedoAfter last weeks shocking ending, my prediction for this week’s ending is that King Cuerno turns out to be actual royalty and Prince Puma is his long-lost son that he only discovers after they have a mask vs mask match.
Recaps of:- Ivelisse earning a match against Mil, losing and then getting saved by Puma, then Penta breaking Mil’s arm.
And that’s all the recap we’re getting this time. I guess we’re getting a very focused episode (we already know a match on it).
------------------------------------------------------------
Ivelisse barges into the office of Catrina. I don’t know if I should really call it an office anymore, it’s completely lost the office feel that it had with Dario.
Ivelisse says she’d still be champ if it wasn’t for the disciples.
Catrina says that Ive is lucky to even be walking and should be thankful for the mercy that Mil showed. (I don’t remember it quite like that).
Ivelisse suggests a match against DOD for the trios titles (again) and Catrina says no (again). There are no automatic rematch clauses in her temple. The former champs will have to prove their worth against another trios team tonight.
It’s time for my Red bull replacement obsession: The creepy painting.
I swear it’s looking in a different direction than before… let me go check…
Nah. Although it could just be the lighting, but I swear she’s wearing a different dress.
Anyway, back to the matter at
hand. Ivelisse says she’s eventually getting her
hands on Catrina and when it happens there won’t be any mercy.
Hands. There were a couple of close ups of Ivelisse’s hand during that. It stuck out as being something to make note of, but there wasn’t anything I saw that was glaringly obvious.

Into the Temple...
Vampiro talks up Puma vs Penta and more specifically how Penta is going to beat the former champion.
I swear they choose the most suspicious people to sit behind commentary.
Ivelisse, Angelico, Son of Havoc vs Chavo Guerrero & The Crew (Mr Cisco, Cortez Castro)Announcing them as the former champs? That seems a tad cruel, Melissa.
You ever play Sleeping Dogs? Your character is an undercover cop. There’s the obligatory scene where he’s suspected of being a cop. There’s also an unlockable police uniform, and the different outfits you wear show up in cutscenes… (Language)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oq4_N-uAYQ I’m just bringing this up cause it’d be hilarious if Cortez forgot which job he was going to and wore the wrong stuff. (Future Gecko: I think I picked the wrong undercover Luchacop for this thought.)
Mil watching over his domain (well, let’s be honest here: Catrina’s domain.) still with a sling on. 6-8 weeks is the usual to heal a broken arm, so he may be back in a few episodes… or maybe he’ll milk it and just stay sitting up there all season.
Mr Cisco negotiates past Angelico’s first modified arm drag, but struggles with the second and almost has his arm yanked out of the socket while landing on his head.
Cortez is wearing camouflage. Almost as if he’s hiding in plain sight.
There are some weird breaks and pauses in commentary here, obviously editing going on.
How did I end up so invested in this team? Havoc I’ve been a fan of from the start, but Ivelisse and Angelico never really did much for me any other time I’ve seen them. Not a knock on their talent, just that there was no connection.
Angelico gets the pin on Cortez after a double stomp from the top.
Post-match, Chavo is not happy with Cortez for getting pinned (where were you while that was going on, Chavo?) He has a go at Cisco as well.
Here comes Texano with a rope wrapped fist! Chavo does Guerrero stuff and hides behind Cisco before throwing him at Texano as a distraction to allow him to escape.
That can’t possibly be hygienic.

He’s Johnny Mundo and he’s got some facts to share. As he shows off how fit and talented he is, he tells us these facts.
FACT: He’s the biggest star in LU. But he has not been treated like that star that he is. He’s got a gripe about being in the opening match at Ultima Lucha.
FACT: He stole the show anyway (eh..). There are clips of the match and one where Mundo is in the ring and says Alberto will never set foot in there again. I have no recollection of that.
FACT: He should be the LU Champion. He’s made it clear that Johnny Mundo takes what Johnny Mundo wants. Talking in the third person, what a heelish characteristic. We move on to his issues with the big dumb idiot, Cage.
FACT: He’s not just a man, he’s THE man. He’s going to make the machine obsolete.
FACT: This is his world; everyone else is just living in it.

Into the Lucha Locker-room with the undercover pair. Joey shows how seriously he’s taking things by immediately calling Cortez ‘Reyes’. He follows up by saying he’s always been a better cop than Cortez.
He then explains to the person who has been here from the start without anybody suspecting about his identity, that it’s their job to convince everybody that they’re luchadores.
A few sentences and we’ve got a full picture on who he is and how he sees himself vs how he actually is. Wonderful stuff. His first match is up next.
Joey Ryan vs CageHe’s actually going by Joey Ryan. I don’t know why I was expecting something different.
I recognise that music. It does not put good images in my head.
Aww, Melissa is still adorable when introducing Cage.
Joey’s reaction on seeing Cage.
I don’t think I’ve really seen any full matches of Joey Ryan, so I have no idea what I’m in for here.
I always forget how quick and agile Cage actually is.
Joey was doing well until he punched Cage in the face.
Powerbomb onto the knee followed by a Steiner Screwdriver!
That’s more than enough for the win.
Yeah, Joey is handy enough in the ring, no issues there.
Cage turns his focus to Mil, which gives Mundo the opening he needs for a sneak attack.
“Welcome to Slamtown, bitch!”
Cage manages to fight back after a while and hits Weapon X on Mundo and ends the segment standing tall.

Somewhere Mysterious…
Rey is training with the new Dragon Azteca. He says Dragon has revenge in his heart and asks if he even knows what they’re preparing for. Dragon replies, “War!”.
Ooh, backstory time...
25 years ago, Dario Cueto’s father came to Mexico and met El Dragon Azteca. The two men quickly formed a partnership with one goal in mind – find the descendants of the seven Aztec tribes… and let them do battle once again, but this time with honour. This time como luchadores (I’m guessing that is ‘as’ luchas and not ‘eating’ luchas as some translations are telling me).
But Cueto got obsessed (easily done) with the dark side of the legend. Wanting to appease the old Gods, making sacrifices to them. Some even say he sacrificed his own young son and let a God inhabit his body, “The Monster” Matanza Cueto.
I forgot we were speaking of Cueto Snr and was slightly confused for a minute.
The two parted ways, making a treaty that neither would set foot in either’s domain again. It is believed that Cueto sealed the treaty with dark magic.
Dragon realises that that is the prophecy the old dragon was talking about.
Rey says that Dragon knew he was sacrificing his body when he entered the temple and tells the new dragon to not go looking for revenge.
Back to the sparring. Dragon asks what he is looking for. Rey replies that it’s something that has been called impossible – A way to unite the seven tribes.
Hmm, that sounds awfully familiar.

Back to the temple where Striker informs us that it’s just been made official: Cage vs Mundo in the main event next week.
Prince Puma vs Pentagon Jr“The rumour is that Prince Puma is a descendant of the ancient Aztecs.” – One of these days a rumour like this will turn out to be false.
Aww, Puma put his headdress on the ring post and then gave it some scritches.
Striker – “Prince Puma never got his rematch for the LU Cham…” Catrina – “No automatic rematches!”
Melissa is still not the biggest fan of Penta.
I do like that version of the mask with a bit of colour in it.
Neither are rushing into things at the start, just a bit of shoving back and forth.
As Penta put on a headlock, Vamp said, “there you go.” And it wasn’t done in a commentary style either. Maybe a little hint that he’s not as disassociated from Penta as he claims.
Everything feels so energised for this match, the crowd, the wrestlers, the commentators. It makes such a difference and can really elevate a match.
Penta hits a powerbomb onto the knee. Striker suggests that he’s watching the matches before him and adapting as he goes by stealing moves. This is a great little comment; it puts Penta over as being smart and covers any repeated moves.
Vamp is complaining about Penta not hooking the leg and getting quite worked up about him going back to his old ways.
Your friendly neighbourhood lucha doesn’t fare well here.
Penta hits the package piledriver but does not go for the pin. He goes for the surfboard, but it doesn’t quite work out.
I saw what happened there. Penta thinks that he’s won but Puma got his shoulders up before three and Penta was the one who got pinned.
Penta is pissed and superkicks… the ref! He then goes after Puma but gets taken down.
Puma sets up to break Penta’s arm! This brings Mil to his feet. Vamp is also on his feet. I’m still sitting down.
He says something to Penta before releasing him. I’m guessing it was along the lines of, Remember this and how I could have broken your arm but choose not to.
Vamp is not looking happy at what happened.
------------------------------------------------------------
Hey, Sexy Star escape attempt.
She’s actually in the Temple and runs straight into The Mack. He asks who did this to her, she replies “Moth”.
But not “him” … “her.”
Oh, come on! What a tease, we don’t get to see the person (Marty’s sister) who is provoking these reactions.
Next time: The Machine

Post Episode & General Thoughts/Questions
-
This is actually for last episode, just something I realised much later on. I mentioned the colour grading in the last scene initially made me think it was the facility where Vamp started the season. What do these two scenes have in common? They're away from the Temple and set in the ‘real’ world and thus have a different feel to them.
- Mundo’s promo makes you wonder how many people are capable of cutting great (or at least much better than they currently do) promos but can’t because of the restrictions on them.
- Remember way, way back I mentioned people getting possessed by entities and the like? Smug mode activated.
- They’re already starting to tie things together with the whole uniting the seven tribes quest involving multiple people. I’m sure it’ll get even more complex as we go on… it’s going to involve the coins somehow.
- Been a while since I’ve mentioned the ring announcing. It’s nice to have an actual person who remembers things and has lasting emotions rather than a voice that decides how a person is getting announced once and then sticks rigidly to it forever.
- There’s still obviously something going on with Penta and Vamp.
- There goes my theory that Star is going to get turned into Marty’s sister.
