In a similar situation to James Gunn and the Suicide Squad movies, let's say the executives at Warner Brothers are impressed with your story telling abilities and have decided that YOU are the new writer/director for a reboot of DC's Justice League franchise, now titled "The Justice League."How would you handle this property? That is what this thread is about, apparently. So let's talk about how we, with all our writing/directing talent would go about rebooting "The Justice League."I will explain how I would go about it; I've decided to mirror James Gunn's approach to things and add a large cast of regular and lesser known characters to the film. "Banjo Brown Presents The Justice League Written and Directed By Banjo Brown"Characters, 1. Superman 2. Batman 3. Big Barda 4. Elongated Man 5. Booster Gold 6. Steel 7. Cassandra Cain 8. General Glory 9. Tasmanian Devil 10. Ambush Bug 11. Godiva 12. L-Ron Villains, Vandal Savage Ultra Humanite The Shaggy Men PLOT, Basically it involves the Scientist who would become the Ultra-Humanite traveling back through time and giving Vandal Savage his immortal powers. Savage lives thousands of years and eventually meets up with the scientist in the future, and they use their vast acquired knowledge to perform experiments to create an army of Shaggy Men and transfer the Scientists brain into the body of a gorilla. Now, both Ultra-Humanite and Vandal Savage try to use their army of Shaggy Men to conquer various points in history and rule the world for lack of a better wording. Or something like that. The government decides to create a special task force to try and stop them. This is, of course THE JUSTICE LEAGUE. So we get our eclectic group of heroes and they try and stop the villains and there's lots of time travelly goodness with various points in time being altered and shifts in the space time continuum and some back to the future shit and lots of fights with Shaggy Men throughout history and Booster Gold comes from the future and hooks up with Godiva and Superman and Big Barda almost make a sex tape and L-Ron is a gay R2D2 with attitude. And something something Ambush Bug breaks the fourth wall a lot. There. Guaranteed Blockbuster. $$$$$$$$
How about you all?

Once upon a time there was a team of mighty heroes with strange and unusual powers who protected this planet and its people from all that threatened it, both terrestrial and beyond. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, The Green Arrow. They were the peoples heroes and legends, they inspired people to live their lives in the strange and wonderful world that the Earth had become. Then, one day, they fell. The Batman's back was broken in battle and he disappeared. Wonder Woman sacrificed herself to save humanity and ascended to the Halls of Olympus as a Goddess because of it. The Flash lost his life battling a threat from a universe that most people couldn't even imagine existed, let alone knew the threat it posed. Aquaman, bitter and cynical over the tragic loss of his family, retreated back to his homeland of Atlantis, vowing to defend only it. The Green Arrow dies a tragic and pointless death in a helicopter explosion. Superman journeys to the stars looking for new worlds to protect. And Green Lantern, well, let's just say nobody likes to talk about what happened to Green Lantern. One year later, a new threat arises, one in the shadows, orchestrated by the megalomaniacal immortal known as Vandal Savage. Only computer genius Barbara Gordon, once known as Batgirl and now using her skills as the Oracle, can see enough of the picture to put together the pieces for it. But she can't stop it alone. Searching the world, she attempts to assemble a new Justice League, one of brave young heroes, successors and namesakes of the old. But they are not always team players. They have their own egos and flaws and self-doubts. And the public can't help but see them as anything but pretenders. But as the threat grows closer, they're all the world has. Supergirl - not a Kryptonian or cousin to Superman, despite the rumors, Linda Danvers is just a brave young girl who came upon her powers through... complicated means. Now she just wants to make up for her troubled past by helping people in Superman's name. Batman - saved from the deranged programming of a religious cult by the original Batman, Jean-Paul Valley seeks to honor that man who saved him by protecting Gotham City. The question is, has he really moved past his upbringing? Wonder Woman - once a rival Amazon to Wonder Woman, but after the earning her respect both on the battlefield and off, Artemis of Bana-Mighdall has chosen to continue her mission of bringing peace to the world in her name. But Artemis' definition of "peace" can be a bit more aggressive then Diana's. The Flash - the former sidekick to the legendary hero, Wally West respects the legacy of the heroes more then just about anyone alive. He doesn't fear the villains, he fears the embarrassment of failing to live up to his name. Green Lantern - after the "incident" with his predecessor, the last ring of the Green Lantern Corp has chosen artist Kyle Rayner to be the new and now sole wielder of the Emerald Light. Unfortunately, where his teammates are trying to live up to their namesakes legacy, he has to live his down. He's not sure he's up the task. Green Arrow - finally meeting his legendary father, the original Green Arrow, just days before his death, young Connor Hawke has chosen to continue the legacy of the Emerald Archer in hopes it will bring him closer to the father he barely knew. And all these issues aren't helped by the fact that one of these warriors is a traitor. Skip the origin story. Use mock news and documentary footage in the first 10 minutes or so to establish that the League has been around for at least a decade now, and has expanded to include pretty much all of the major DC superheroes. Introduce an intergalactic threat for the League to battle and switch between different groups of heroes battling the threat in different locations throughout the universe. But keep going back to Blue Beetle and Booster Gold, who get stuck with mundane tasks like guarding the Watchtower, escorting Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, and stuff like that. However, Booster and Beetle end up being the ones who figure out the true threat behind the threat and neutralize it, but they get no credit for it since they were working behind the scenes and all the general public saw was Superman, Wonder Woman, and the others kicking all kinds of alien butt.

First off, I generally think that reboots are a lazy way to reinvigorate an ailing franchise. Don't like how the last movie went, pretend the whole series never happened and do the origin all over again. Sometimes it works, sure, but personally I think it's more creative to take the mess that's been left you and somehow make it work.
So if I'm doing this James Gunn-style, it's going to be a sorta-sequel sorta-reboot. I'm not pretending the first film didn't happen, but I won't be referring too much to it either. The Knightmare can go f***k off. And I'm going to leave Apokolips to whomever's doing the New Gods movie because frankly I think that property deserves to shine in it's own movie.
Also, I wouldn't call it THE Justice League. I think this trend of putting THE in front of your reboot is lame. Call it "Justice League: (Insert Subtitle Here)." Or just call it what it is, "Justice League 2." No one puts numbers on their sequels anymore anyway.
As for the plot, I'd want to take it as far from the usual superhero slugfest as I can. Instead of Not Another Alien Invasion or Super Friends Civil War or whatever, I'd have them take on something that is essentially a force of nature, emphasizing the heroes actually saving lives just as much as they are dealing with the threat. Originally, I would have wanted to use Starro, but since Gunn is doing that, I'd replace him (it?) with the Centre from New Frontier. Awakened by the cataclysmic events of the first film, as well as the sudden uptick of metahuman activity in the world, the sentient dinosaur island has decided to purge the Earth of the destructive human race. So it's basically a kaiju/disaster movie with superheroes.
The lineup is pretty much the same as the first film. I'd get Cavill back, Affleck if he wants to. But Fisher's history. Either recast him or have Cyborg conveniently be somewhere else and replace him with Shazam.
There will be brief appearances from other heroes (some making their debut here), each doing their own part in dealing with the menace.
There is a scene where Aquaman protects a ship from a sea monster and gets some unexpected help from one of its passengers: one Oliver Queen, just back from a lovely one-year vacation at a remote island (tying in with a Green Arrow movie I have in mind which is essentially an adaptation of GA Year One).
One new character with a much larger part is J'onn J'onnz, who will NOT be General Swannwick. Here it is revealed that J'onn was active as a detective in the 1950's, helping government agent King Faraday investigate paranormal anomalies (tying in to a "John Jones" TV series). Since then, however, he had been placed in an Area 51-like facility (or Area 52, since DC loves that number), monitored by an aged Faraday. In their last assignment, which involved the Centre, J'onn put himself in a self-induced trance and had been psychically keeping the Centre in check since then. With the Centre's awakening, J'onn emerges from his coma and decides to help the League in person.
And then there's this brave pilot who is somewhat prominent, but remains nameless for most of the film. He seemingly sacrifices himself in combat, but in an after credits scene, we find out that a strange green light had pulled him out of his exploding plane at the last second. A voice is heard, "Hal Jordan of Earth. You have the ability to overcome great fear," as a familiar ring materializes before him.

I'd have a bunch of heroes meeting up at the Halls of Justice to see that Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern, Flash and a couple other big DC hitters are going to fight Darksied somewhere in another galaxy. Like a day after the big heroes leave, Lex Luther and a couple other big villains decide it's time to set aside their differences and take Earth while they can. A bunch of C tier DC Heroes under the leadership of the only hero left that the general public even knows, Aquaman, have to try and save the day. Hilarity ensues.
Most of the movie would be all the shitty heroes trying to accomplish things and getting brutally killed. I'd make it kinda like a Suicide Squad but make it with shitty heroes overextending themselves at their one chance of fame.

Justice League: War did a great job using all the main heroes, some of them having origins, meeting for the first time, and fighting darksheild. I'd pretty much just copy that.
Start with the 01 JL cartoon teen. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Hawkgirl, and Martian Manhunter.
I'd add Aquaman, Plastic Man, Green Arrow, Lobo, and Shazam.

I'd make it a pseudo-sequel to the DCEU JL, with the big bad being Darkseid and the forces of Apokalips invading Earth for the Anti-Life Equation. Worse yet, he realizes that Superman is the linchpin to Earth's defense. He manages to set up an ambush for Kal-El and captures him, sending him to Apokalips as a prisoner. I'd retcon some of the problematic and contradictory aspects of both Whedon's and Snyder's cuts like Batman being a murderous f***boy. I'd also do some recasting. Unfortunately for Darkseid, he didn't count on another Kryptonian survivor: Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. Her cousin Superman was training her in secret, with Batman being the only other one knowing of her real lineage. This creates a twofold mission as Apokalips starts to invade in earnest: rescue Superman if he's still alive and hold off Darkseid's forces until the rescue mission succeeds and a united front can take him on. Team Superman Rescue: Wonder Woman (Diana Prince) - Leader of the Team to rescue Clark. Her divine power makes her a natural to handle the worst that Apokalips has to offer as well as inspire fellow heroes. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) - One of the Green Lanterns that represents Sector 2814. Recognizing the significance of Superman, he was sent by the Guardians of Oa to aid Wonder Woman in her mission to save him. Cyborg (Victor Stone) - Victor's made peace with the circumstances that lead to his transformation into a man-machine hybrid. He's a valued member of Wonder Woman's team, especially when it comes to his expertise with technology. This helps the team with dealing with the bizarrely alien tech on Apokalips. Zatanna Zatara - A master magician chosen to aid the team. She's not only powerful as a combatant, but can use her magic to support her allies. Her lighthearted personality also helps to ease tense moments.
Martian Manhunter (J'onn J'onzz) - One of the last Green Martians alive, J'onn is not only physically power, possessing many similar powers equal to Kryptonians, but also a master shapeshifter and telepath. He possesses a keen intellect and a compassionate soul.
Big Barda - A former elite soldier of Darkseid's, this New God co-leads an underground resistance against Darkseid backed by New Genesis, the good counterpart to Apokalips. She and her husband made Superman's freedom their priority once they learned of his capture. After learning that they and the Earth heroes share a common goal, they join forces. Mister Miracle (Scot) - A New God of New Genesis given to Apokalips as part of a peace exchange. Mister Miracle and his future wife, Big Barda, escaped the horrors of his uncle Darkseid's service and tortures and formed an underground resistance against the evil New God. In addition to his New God physiology, Scot is a master escape artist. Between this and his and Barda's familiarity with Darkseid's palace, Wonder Woman accepts their offer to join up with their mission.
Superman (Kal-El/Clark Kent) - Taken prisoner by Granny Goodness's Furies, Superman is under heavy guard deep within Darkseid's lair, enduring horrible torments by chief torturer DeSaad. Team Earth Defense: Batman (Bruce Wayne) - The leader of the Earth Defense, what Batman lacks in power he more than makes up for in his tactical genius. He coordinates strategy with the other superheroes and uses advanced technology so this mere human can fight on a more even playing field against Apokalips' forces. Supergirl (Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-El) - Kal-El's cousin from Argo City. Like Superman, she was able to escape Krypton using an escape ship prepared by her parents, Alura and Zor-El. However, unlike Kal-El, her ship was caught in a spatial anomaly that kept her in stasis for a number of years that halted her aging process. Thus, while technically older than Clark by several years, she doesn't arrive on Earth until several years later, still a teenager while Kal-El has grown into an adult. Clark trusted her guardianship to the Danvers, a pair of scientists that became trusted friends of the Kryptonian superhero. After her powers manifested and she grew into a young adult, Clark started training her use of powers while Bruce Wayne trained her in combat and tactics. This combination of Kryptonian strength and Batman's training could result in her being even more of a formidable opponent than her cousin, though her inexperience holds her back. Aquaman (Arthur Curry) - King of Atlantis, Aquaman commands the powers of the Earth's oceans as well as the formidable Atlantean army. His forces become the bulk of Earth's defense against Darkseid. Mera - Queen of Atlantis, Mera is a formidable warrior in her own right. She joins her husband in leading the forces of Earth's oceans against Apokalips. The Flash (Barry Allen) - The speedster has delved further into the origins of his power: the enigmatic cosmic energy known as the Speed Force. He's grown in power since the fight against Steppenwolf. He also no longer has his chunky metal armor as he can run even faster without it. Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) - An old friend and business partner of Bruce Wayne's, Oliver Queen has taken up the mantle of the Green Arrow in his home of Star City to defend those who can't defend themselves. He uses his quiver of all sorts of different arrows to subdue enemies from afar, and his expertise in martial arts when the situation forces him to fight up close. Black Canary (Dinah Lance) - A powerful martial artist and tactical genius, Black Canary is also a metahuman who has a superpowered shreik to deafen, disorient, or outright knock her opponents out. It's said this "Canary Cry" can be lethal at this most powerful, but it's yet to be witnessed firsthand. She and Oliver Queen are engaged to be married and she eagerly joins her fiance to defend Earth. Green Lantern (John Stewart) - With Hal joining Wonder Woman's team to rescue Superman, the Guardians of Oa have assigned John to defend his homeworld of Earth. John and Hal are old friends from the military despite serving in different branches. John Constantine - Also known as the Hellblazer, John Constantine is a prominent master of the magical arts, (in)famous for his knowledge and expertise of demonology and the occult. He's had a friendship and partnership with Zatanna for many years and he rounds out the Earth team with his magical powers in the same way Zatanna does with Wonder Woman's. John is surly, brash, and confrontational, but his heart is in the right place. Usually.
Shazam (Billy Batson) - A young teenager able to assume the form of paragon of divine power known as Shazam, Billy may look and act like a certain Kryptonian on the surface. But the two are nothing alike otherwise. While he possesses a lot of potent magical powers as Shazam, he still has the mind and maturity of an adolescent, for both good and ill.
Black Adam (Teth-Adam) - A former user of Shazam's powers turned longtime nemesis of the Wizard Shazam and his champions, the king of Kahndaq and champion of the Egyptian pantheon has put aside his disdain for his enemy in order to defend his country and his planet. Adam may have similar ulterior motives in his aiding the heroes of Earth, but his motives suggest a genuine desire to protect his homeland, even if his methods can be questionable.
Lex Luthor - When Superman's archenemy approached Batman to join in the defense of Earth against the forces of Apokalips, it was one of the few times that Batman was genuinely surprised. On the surface, Luthor is sincere in wanting to help the heroes of Earth defend their homeworld. After all, it is a matter of survival for him as much as the forces of good. But does Lex have some ulterior motive? Will he earn the trust of the fellow defenders, however misplaced it will be?
