I'll just say that she handled the whole thing poorly. Yes, you can say something that's considered bad (whether you meant it in bad faith or not) but the most important thing is how you follow up from that. The follow up could have just been an easy apology and then we'd move on but it wasn't that. It was just her ignoring things and next thing you know this video comes out. Nah, just admit you took an L and keep on attempting to be a better person.
A lot of these known people just have an issue taking things upfront. It ain't that hard. Well, it shouldn't be but it somehow is for a lot of them.

I will say, though, I do understand how hard that might have been if she’s bombarded with shit like she was and trying to make an apology make sense or even listened to fully. Twitter has a lot of problems as a platform, many of it they actually don’t want to deal with and instead giving more dumb features that nobody wants (Oh, cool, you can see what trends compared to your interests with people you don’t follow...cool?) so I get it. I’m not justifying it and I’m not saying I agree fully with her points but at the same time, I do sort of feel like it’s sort of easier to back away from things then try and fail to make a big apology. Mostly because people would get easily cynical about that either. Like, there’s a reason many people joked about the Notes app apology during SpeakingOut.

I’m completely against a Edit Tweet button. There’s a way to do an edit tweet feature that’s beneficial to everyone and makes things easier and allows for open and up front ways of seeing what has been edited. Do you genuinely think Twitter would do anything like that? They’d set the button up and they would make it so you act like that was your original tweet when that wasn’t the case and allows assholes to get away with more assholery. I wouldn’t trust Jack with building a shelf in his house.

I agree, yeah it is easier but at the same time if you're a public face you just gotta do what's right. Especially her, I figured she'd handle this correctly but she didn't which was weird. There's just certain figures I expect to handle things accordingly rather than fumble the ball. It would have been easy to fix too, real easy. Ah well.

I think my only thing is that there are people who have different meanings of "right thing". Again, this isn't me saying you're wrong but I don't think it's as simple as that but I also wouldn't know what to do in that situation. Doesn't help I fit pretty rightly with my Autism diagnosis in my "sensitivity towards how other people feel about me" stuff and I get eaten up when I feel like I've offended one person. Can't imagine what I'd be like if I offended a lot of people, even unintentionally.

I'm not sure why it's so hard for celebrities to apologize?
I do it all the time and my apologies are sincere and to the point.

Not everybody can do that in regards to certain things because we're all different. There's really no "Hey You're Being Canceled, What To Do About It 101" book out there so it's just up to us to tackle what we think is best.

True... though multiple other things have ways of showing what was edited... or at the very least have a relatively obvious Edited at tag... like Proboards here.

It would absolutely be easy for Twitter to do something like that and make it more honest and up front. There’s probably about 15000 programmers who’ve come up with a way to do it. I 100% guarantee you none of them work at Twitter, though. Nor do I think they’ll actually do it in a beneficial way.

I was agreeing with you that Twitter would undoubtedly do it in a way that doesn't indicate it had been edited or show the original tweet... because it is easier to just update into a database than actually keep track of the old data... so people could post really vile stuff wait to get a reaction calling them out on their shit and then changing it to something mundane or positive and take screenshots of all the people flipping out over nothing... to be dicks.

Also, I didn't watch the video but I did see the Movie Bob pseudo apology making the rounds, and Jesus Christ, she just keeps twisting that knife. Like, I get it. MovieBob is still a dipshit even when a lot of the people who attack him are worse, but God damn Lindsay the man's already dead. I hate to say it but MovieBob kind of had it coming. The guy spent years acting like a pseudo intelligent male feminist, being tristy towards female content creator in hope that they would drop their panties for him someday and have his genetically superior children. Lindsay wasnt the first but she was the first to call him out on it publicly. Even after that, MovieBob decided to dig the hole deeper himself by claiming that he was being gaslighting for being a creep. MovieBob should be happy he got an half ass apology because Im pretty sure Lindsay could drop a pipebomb promo on him if she wanted too.

I'm for an Edit Tweet button, but with a limited amount of time, like 30 minutes or so. Mostly to fix typing errors. If you say something stupid and forget about it, well... you gotta live with the consequences. That's life.

You could be Quinton Review and not even get a half ass apologize but then again Quinton was being much more creeper then MovieBob was.

This is a matter of a tweet being misunderstood. It could have easily been clarified with a follow up tweet or several. If people still wanted to believe she was racist after the clarification then that's their problem. The lesson to be learned is that Twitter is not a particularly good place to post ideas that require nuance and expansion. Her example of the woman going to South Africa and posting about AIDS is a little dubious as the woman, while yes treated harshly by a toxic social media community, was still stupid as shit for posting something like that which could easily be misconstrued. It's a lesson of what happens when people absurdly feel the need to post every waking thought online. Don't do it.

This all just goes to show you that Doug Walker is smarter than all of us. He gets in trouble, what does he do, absolutely f***ing nothing. Years later people are more pissed about his Wall review than anything in that document. Makes you think. (Not really) Oh, people haven't forgotten #ChangeTheChannel. The Honey ad memes and the Wall stuff are infamous, but he and Channel Awesome still seem to be "cast out" from the major geek circles for the time being.

Can't imagine what I'd be like if I offended a lot of people, even unintentionally. That's part of the reason Twitter stopped appealing to me so much, because I already know I will laugh at the occasionally politically incorrect joke. Not out of any ignorance or genuine maliciousness in my heart, more out of an "I can't believe you got away with that, LMAO!" sense. For example, and speaking of "Mask Off" (pun intended): there was this meme going around for a while regarding the rapper Future, and how some fans were dubbing him "The King Of Misogyny" because he writes so many songs about loving and leaving all these women. In interviews, he doesn't exactly come off as one of those "men don't have rights, I hate feminists, society is becoming too feminine!" types. By my account, he seems to be just a cool cat who makes club bangers. Columnists have pointed out that Future's songs are mostly about his relationship experience. They don't seem to be him trying to push any sort of sinister, calculated anti-woman agenda, as if he's evilly rubbing his hands together (like Birdman). So the whole meme is pretty tongue-in-cheek, but I can easily imagine how if you're sincerely emotional and focused on women's rights, it would give someone on Twitter or elsewhere the heebie-jeebies. Me trying to overexplain that the nickname isn't what they think it is would be too much of a headache, even more so on Twitter and how it's structured.
