It was an amusing flub and that's about it. Some people are acting like he was like that guy on the Spanish announcement team who was racist towards Shida. Nah, it's not that serious.
Look, the guy is nearing 70 and working an outside show when it's hot and humid. If anything, I'm more surprised that's the only mistake he made.

You know how wrestler have this worry that they hope to retire before becoming an embarrassment in the ring... and some just can't quit it? I think that sort of applies to JR now.
I love the guy but unfortunately when i recall recent JR moments, he is either botching badly or just seem too old, tired or sick to be calling shows. He should be a 'special attraction' announcer doing key matches or PPVs which he can focus and prepare well for. Its too much work for him to be carrying these shows given his age and health. He should be a key figure backstage, he should do taped special sit-downs backstage.
Vince taking him off TV as a lead announcer was too early then, but now it may be that time.

I don't think it was the worst thing in the world, but it was definitely an unfortunately timed flub. The video package at the end tugged at the heartstrings and then the "WWE Dynamite" error distracted from it. It doesn't take away from how truly great AEW has been over the last year, but it does distract the conversation. I mean, here we are talking about it.
I like JR. I think he is truly deserving of acclaim in the annals of wrestling history. I think he still has much to offer AEW; his sit-down interviews can work well and add legitimacy to the feuds/people in the company focused on in those segments. But I also feel that Taz/Excalibur/Schiavone work well and maybe live broadcasting isn't in JR (or the company's) best interests long-term. The tough part is that I think he identifies his worth so strongly with it so I don't know that he'd want to be 'put aside', as he might see it.

That's a bit of a ridiculous panic. Yeah some people will talk about it but after that Sammy/MJF match? It's not gonna detract from the entire show. It was one little flub. Let trolls have their jollies if they want and don't let it bother you that much. AEW's gonna keep on truckin into next week and they ain't gonna worry about it. If anything it'll be a BTE gag on Monday. It's more than just a BTE gag, or AEW going on. This was an insult to everyone who worked there that whole time. It was an insult to the memory of Brodie Lee. It was an insult to all the blood, sweat and tears people put into making the company. I am always seeing the positive in everything, but this is too much. This was an unacceptable botch in my opinion. Bizarre. Grow up.

That’s…really bad. If this was 1997 Vince would have been livid. Tony Khans an idiot though so nothing will happen. Someone needs to edit it over the sparkler ending from Revolution or the crash pad ending Why is Tony Khan an idiot? Seems a silly thing to say.

People are probably more upset that he didn't refer to WWE in a mocking tone,as is the style in AEW.
"Dammit Jim, we missed the chance at a little dig there to keep the 'fans' happy".

More of a slip up which is fine
I rather have these slip ups than being a grumpy old ass man who throws a fit when he's wrong or want to be bitchy about something

If the choice was between him slurring a bit or have him moan about a big man doing sentons randomly, I'd take a "WWE Dynamite" here and there.

JR's old, but he's still the voice of professional wrestling.
I watch Dynamite here in the UK with a friend whose not been in to wrestling since the Attitude era, and while he has some issues with AEW, he loves that the voice is JR.
JR still adds value to casuals, even if not the hardcore so much anymore, and it's the casuals AEW needs now to keep growing.

JR still adds value to casuals, even if not the hardcore so much anymore, and it's the casuals AEW needs now to keep growing. Spot on 💯 Every time there's a discussion on if JR is done or if he will be moved off of commentary it's very important to remember that comments on Twitter, Reddit etc are a minority of fans who actively watch the product. Yes they're a very loud and vocal one, but they aren't all 800,000 on average that watch Dynamite weekly to the Million that they can routinely reach and that's just on Nielson estimates and live/non DVR viewers. And that's not factoring in that vocal minority as it were doesn't always agree with itself... most of the times it never agrees with itself and is incredibly divisive of opinion! So it's very hard to say how much JR actively hurts the product for people and how much of the fanbase truly cares if he flubs. So many fans and casuals out there don't actively comment on the product like peeps on FAN for example. Obviously he cares about it enough to apologize on Twitter and own up to the fans upset that caught it live, but unless JR actively starts hurting the product, turning away viewership, becoming a clear detriment to the entire commentary team? None of which he does on any sort of consistent basis for it to matter to AEW, I just don't see anything changing until JR himself wants it to change, or he does something so egregious that they fire him like Urbina showing AEW genuinely does have a zero tolerance policy for when commentators are actual horrible people who get caught being horrible. But this? This is Botchamania fodder. That's really it. Show was great and this didn't take a thing away from it, certainly not like Revolution's ending and not even close.

I'm genuinely surprised that this is the first time I've heard someone say the wrong promotion on commentary. Especially since JR spent ~30 years calling WWE shows.

I mean, this isn't even the first time JR did it this year. He called Kenny Omega the WWE Champion, which must have been a surprise for Drew McIntyre at the time.

This one just stood out more due to its incredibly awkward timing.
