No one on social media is going to talk about anything but this botch. After that tribute. He's an embarrassment to the company. That's a bit of a ridiculous panic. Yeah some people will talk about it but after that Sammy/MJF match? It's not gonna detract from the entire show. It was one little flub. Let trolls have their jollies if they want and don't let it bother you that much. AEW's gonna keep on truckin into next week and they ain't gonna worry about it. If anything it'll be a BTE gag on Monday. Yeah it’s not a big deal. The guy made a mistake.

A lot of you are getting WAY too judgmental over something that was a 100% accidental flub. Yeah I’m shocked as I’m reading these responses. People are being way too overly negative about a simple flub.

The only people who are still gonna' talking about this by Monday are people who never discuss AEW in good faith anyway. I cringe-laughed when it happened but muscle memory, or the mental equivalent, is real and is a hell of a thing. I've answered personal phone calls with my work greeting ("Good morning/afternoon, office of ______, how can I help you?") on more than one occasion and I've only worked at my job for 6 or so years. JR was with WWE for 20+.

People are being way too overly negative about a simple flub. Honestly, and this is going to sound like a backhanded compliment somewhat, I'm shocked this has only happened twice. Especially considering some of the other stuff that have been more glaring issues that are either still there or ironed out a bit.

I guess I missed it, because I was still emotionally drained from the video they played prior to it. That or I just shrugged it off.

In the grand scheme, this is a minor thing, and it's to be expected when you have a 70-year-old man who spent 20+ years of his career working for a particular company. Minor gaffe, and should be forgiven.
To play Devil's Advocate, though, these gaffes are tantamount to, like, a UPS employee welcoming you to FedEx or a McDonald's employee trying to sell you a Whopper. At a certain point, there would be ramifications if something like that happened on more than one occasion.
At this stage of his career, I think that JR is better suited for special occasions. His voice and enthusiasm when he's into something, even now, can elevate a good match to a great match and a great match to a generational match moreso than pretty much anything else in wrestling. I just think the weekly grind of calling a 2 hour show every week is wearing him down, and that's with the shows all being in the same city. I can't imagine he's going to get any better when he starts having to fly around the country again.
All of this, a longwinded way to say, have JR call the occasional Dynamite main event and the PPVs. He's the greatest and most well-respected commentator in the history of wrestling. I don't think anyone would have a hard time accepting him as only commentating on special occasions.

Yeah, I think that's a much better direction, especially if they have to change timeslots on occasion again (doesn't seem as likely on TBS but could happen still). I remember watching one of the Friday shows with my brother and it really felt like it was well past his bedtime with how cranky he was at times. He's also someone you can have do interviews since, especially with the Andrade one, he has a real knack for that as well. Like, he's got a place in the company and for my own benefit, he's more good than bad (last week's line of "We can't travel, I just got a house here" genuinely made me laugh out loud with the timing) but for his own health, that'd be a better direction for him long term.

It was a simple mistake.
People forget that AEW isn't run like WWE. They don't have a raging lunatic in the commentators ears forcing them to say buzzwords 300 times.
They also wouldn't fire someone for mentioning WWE like WWE would if someone mentioned AEW.
This is a good thing.
But yeah, he definitely can't make a habit out of this.

Mistakes happen on WWE commentary, too. Humans aren't perfect.

Incredible botch. An absolute classic. I laughed a lot at this.
It's really not that big of a deal. I agree that JR is possibly losing it and that maybe he shouldn't be on air any more, but nobody would be talking about firing any of the other commentators over this.

JR was with WWE for 20+. Working in customer service for over a year has made that a reality. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve accidentally asked a standard customer service question in the middle of a transaction where I was the customer being served. It’s a habit you can’t break out of. J.R was the voice of WWE for well over a decade plus. 2 years won’t break that so easily.

He needs to go, honestly.
Yeah it was a mistake but he's had so many we're approaching Lillian Garcia levels.

Saying this was a disgrace to the memory of Brodie Lee is a bigger disgrace to the memory of Brodie Lee than what was perhaps JR's most honest mistake

Saying this was a disgrace to the memory of Brodie Lee is a bigger disgrace to the memory of Brodie Lee than what was perhaps JR's most honest mistake Yeah, that's too much. He screws up a lot, though. There's only so many times you can brush it off. Doesn't help that his attitude about it is usually "I'm a legend so f*** you". Still remember him saying Pac was from Wales. Like how in the f*** do you come to that conclusion?

I'm genuinely surprised that this is the first time I've heard someone say the wrong promotion on commentary. Especially since JR spent ~30 years calling WWE shows. I think Nigel accidentally said ROH instead of NXT once, but yeah, it's rare.

Of all the genuinely terrible nights JR has had on commentary, this one harmless forgivable flub is somehow the one that got people mad. I hate wrestling fans. Even when they get one right it's still for the wrong reasons.
