From the little I watched yesterday, I noticed that often times, he (JR) will repeat exactly what has just been said by someone else, adding very little value to the conversation...
Maybe I'm being unfair in my judgment of his work.

I noticed he called Excalibur by his real name Marc and called Gallows Luke but other than that he was forgettable I guess. Which is the best we can hope for these days I suppose.

He was fine last night. The Excalibur/Marc slip up is so easy to make, as was the WWE one last week. There seemed to be all kinds of confusion during the Black debut so that's not on him.
To me, he should hang it up in AEW just to give them their own voices. Excalibur is great and Schiavone hadn't been on TV outside of that blip in TNA, so he's not seen as a WWE guy. Why the fascination with a 3-man booth?

I actually enjoy Excalibur being called Marc every once in awhile, even in kayfabe it's obvious that it's a nickname and the guy's name isn't actually going to be Excalibur

So how was he last night folks? I have to watch the full episode, but I thought he kinda sucked during Black's debut. Personally I loved the "He's got the eyes of a trained killer" line from him.

I chuckled at this exchange:
Excalibur: “Kingston with the half-and-half”
J.R: “Also known as an Arnold Palmer!”

I also thought he was fantastic in the sit-down interview with Ethan Page and Darby Allin.
He really put over just how hateful that feud is.

I still think he has a lot to offer but I think age is taking a bit of a toll and he can't do what he used to. Interview segments are a great way to feature him, and I had an idea a while back where he would have a short little segment each week where he would kayfabe break down a wrestler's style ("Darby Allin on the surface looks like a brawler, but that's just an act to hide the fact that he's a highly technical counter-wrestler") or something, and then he can compare them to talents of yesteryear all he wants.

Giving him death threats is way too much and totally unnecessary.

Captain Lou and Freddie Blassie made that slip a bunch too.

Excalibur himself called The Bunny "Allie" Wasn’t that her name when she came in though? Or are we actually to believe The Bunny is her actual name?! She also went by Allie when she separated from Butcher & Blade and did her thing with the Nightmare Family for awhile.
She also goes by Allie on her social media handles, so it's not exactly an "inside reference" to call her Allie when her nameplate chyron has her Twitter handle as "@alliewrestling."

“Tommy End or whatever he’s called now” is going to be on video packages years from now.

Giving him death threats is way too much and totally unnecessary. Jesus. People take pro-wrestling WAY too seriously. He's done some groaners in the 2 years or so he's been with AEW, but at worst I've just wanted him doing something better suited for him at this stage in his life and career.

Using him for backstage sit down interviews is probably the best way to use him at this point, people wishing death on him for being not that great on commentary lately are ridiculous though.
