Also I don't really understand how Hangman losing one match because of being attacked before the match started caused him to plummet four spots while PAC is in second place after doing f***-all. PAC's been winning matches on the secondary shows, which does matter, especially when he's been doing so in decisive fashion What hurts Hangman is he also goes a full week without competing and might go another full week unless he also competes on the secondary shows. You can really creep up if you do that. It is kinda silly though. The main event talent doesn’t wrestle the secondary shows (Hangman had his first match on one a couple weeks ago) so beating a bunch of soup cans on dark and dark 2 can put you up the rankings ahead of other guys that only wrestle on dynamite in marquee matches.

Especially when PAC and Fenix just lost a tag title match not too long ago Tag and Singles matches are ranked in completely seperate categories. PAC is undefeated in singles competition so far I believe

My big issue with SCU is that the stakes are really high for them. Either they win, or they are done, but it's still happening on free TV, likely to lead to an unranked team of singles guys in Mox and King getting a shot at the PPV, when the last PPV also had the Bucks defending against a thrown together singles team in MJF and Jericho. When they have such an embarrassment of riches in the tag division, them constantly going to main event singles guys forming teams at the PPVs is WWE Tag Division booking and it just sucks. Honestly I feel like the only thing really separating WWE and AEW's tag divisions is the number of teams in them. They still tend to generally book most of the teams like inconsequential nobodies who are usually shoved in random multi-man matches when actually on Dynamite and the belts like they're just needless accessories to stories they want to tell that don't have to involve them. Pretty much nothing the Bucks have done in the FTR feud or the stories they've been involved with since have been dependent on them being champions and if anything the whole, "You guys need to rediscover your killer instinct," thing Callis was doing with them was made actively dumber by them being champions during it.

Yeah this is where I disagree heavily. AEW has a ton of tag teams with different varying personalities which are treated like a big deal. There have been a ton of tag matches on AEW even outside of tag title matches which have been treated like a big deal, and The Tag Titles themselves are treated like worthwhile belts worth getting in a stacked division, a division so stacked they let the top teams fight for it in wars sometimes. WWE's tag divisions are so dire you forget who the champs are half the time (Looking at you Dirty Dawgs) and not eve getting started with Nia and Shayna. I just think this is such an unfair comparison. AEW has one of the most stacked tag divisions I've ever seen. Mox/Kingston can always get the shot by earning it, they have a few weeks to rack up wins, or they can force the Bucks into it, it's not a huge deal.

Especially when PAC and Fenix just lost a tag title match not too long ago Tag and Singles matches are ranked in completely seperate categories. PAC is undefeated in singles competition so far I believe Still, the value of competition should matter Yes, PAC may be undefeated but who is his biggest win over the span? Eddie Kingston which was at the beginning of the year. Hangman Page lost to Brian Cage and if I remember correctly both men were undefeated in singles this year up to that point and Cage is still undefeated so he technically should be number one Not that im clamoring for Cage/Allin again

Plus while PAC lost to the Bucks, he wasn't pinned, which I also think matters.

I just kind of feel like if someone's supposed to be the number two guy in the company he could probably stand to have one win on TV in the past four months that wasn't over a literal jobber.

Everyone wrestles on DARK and Elevation? Only one who hasn't is Jericho. Moxley literally had a match on Elevation this week. Christian hasn’t either... But you don’t see mox every week, or the bucks, or others higher on the totem pole. There’s some dudes that seem to wrestle both shows every week. The whole ranking system and dark squash matches are one of the lamest things I find about AEW. Not to compare it to WWE. But if we went by the ranking system Daniel Bryan would never be ranked. Yet I still buy him as guy that could have won the title at mania. I don’t need an excel spreadsheet to believe someone has a chance of winning.” This guy won 9 of their last of their 10 matches” doesn’t mean anything if half the matches are vs. guys that still haven’t won a match. Then the rankings don’t matter when it’s decided in a multiman Custerf***, battle Royal or ladder match. SCU was number one contender for like three months and just now are getting a shot. The contender stuff would be better if they actually had a better consistent payoff to it and not just Willy Nilly when the rankings actually matter.

I mean....it makes sense that Orange be the guy to face Omega in front of the biggest crowd they’ve had since before the pandemic. Dude is so stupid over right now - even without a crowd/small crowds for more than a year.
Plus whatever helps push us closer to the real end game here; Hangman at their Wrestlemania (All Out.)

I'd rather just do that endgame now, but apparently two years worth of build isn't enough for some reason so we've got to waste at least four more months first just because.

Hangman isn't there yet, he's got other shit he needs to resolve like with HFO and he should. And Omega having another defense or two and continuing the collection isn't a bad idea either. They should give Omega/Hangman the build it deserves heading into All Out.

And they could've been doing that in the three months Kenny's spent continuing to f*** around with Moxley well after this feud wore out its welcome. Bringing this back around to OC I kind of just feel like Omega is an astoudingly shittily written character right now. Nothing he does really makes any sense, for being this big dominant super heel most of the roster doesn't seem to give a damn about him and lets him live in his own little world for some reason, this Moxley feud's gone on for months and made both him and Kingston look like total morons at every turn, and none of his matches mean anything because we all know the eventual destination and now he just treated OC like a piece of shit that isn't in his league and we all know OC isn't winning.

In general, this has been a growing issue. For a while, it felt like Dark winning streaks would climax with a TV win in order to really punctuate them and make the wrestler in question look good in front of the entire viewing audience, not just the fraction that keeps up with the Youtube shows (Elevation episodes with Moxley excepted). It's an issue that gets compounded when certain wrestlers' and managers' storylines (Taz, Sting, Jericho, MJF, Omega) are treated as weekly obligations to the point of filling time with repetition. Dynamite is treated as self-contained. We get the Dark and Elevation tickers, but we don't get, say, segments that track who has really been on a tear - and to the extent we do, it's more like everyone is on a tear when they aren't on Dynamite, and therefore Dynamite is where the rubber hits the road. Winning on Dynamite is rare and noteworthy, which isn't a bad thing per se, but it also means that wins have less story impact if they don't happen on Dynamite.

If you wanna get super technical here. PAC's last loss in singles action came February 26th of last year. Yeah Pandemic kept him out awhile but that also still matters too, dude hasn't lost in singles or been pinned period in an AEW match in over a year. The last to do it was Omega.

But yeah, I've long been a proponent of cutting down on #1 contender matches. Particularly in a company with rankings, I don't understand why you can't just name a challenger, lol. Cassidy has nearly double the wins of Pac, in what world are these two in an even position for a title match?? It's a booking crutch to fill out tv that's historically been relied on way too much in the modern era. SCU, them boys is doo doo butter Give me apple-tini Daniels. Ya'll mean, that man Daniels fighting his heart out for the honor of getting his ass whooped by Kaz next week.

There's merit to have this match though since Death Triangle and Best Friends are feuding and PAC screwed Cassidy in the last match they fought at Revolution. If Orange is going to face Omega, in what is going to be the biggest match of his career, then I think him getting past PAC and conquoring that beast is a big deal, so we'll see how it plays out.

I think that's the intention. AEW's ranking system is inspired a lot by ranking systems infamous for padding records with low-end opponents: boxing and college football.
