Still, the value of competition should matter Yes, PAC may be undefeated but who is his biggest win over the span? Eddie Kingston which was at the beginning of the year. Hangman Page lost to Brian Cage and if I remember correctly both men were undefeated in singles this year up to that point and Cage is still undefeated so he technically should be number one Not that im clamoring for Cage/Allin again Very boxing-esque how they pad out these records with bums, lol. Exactly my point Don't give me a ranking system when I can smoke that Ryan Nemeth pack for a month and get a title shot. It is Russell Westbrook stat padding instead of telling me this is numbers 5-1 and if you beat anybody in the top 5 you jump up to number 1. They been lazy with this since the beginning

Like to be fair PAC wasn't even ranked for awhile or in this position until now and he's definitely here because he and Cassidy are destined to have their rematch and both are top ranked. PAC wins, he's clear number one contender beating Orange, Orange wins, he slays a demon of his, I think it's fine.

Early on Nightmare Factory went from off the books to somehow being number 1 contenders after beating bums. Same with Brodie Lee when they had him challenge Mox

Tonight was pretty bad.
Omega: I really love PAC. PAC is a great wrestler, let me face PAC. Schiavone: Next week, it'll be PAC vs. Orange Cassidy. Omega: PAC has actually defeated me before in this company, you know? He's a tough worker and I respect him. Just announce it. Schiavone: Next week, it'll be PAC vs... Orange Cassidy. Omega: Yeah, yeah... I look forward to me taking on PAC. Schiavone: Next... week... it will be... PAC... taking on... Orange Cassidy. *Orange Cassidy shows up* Omega: Where's PAC?

I love most everything AEW does, and can safely say it’s my favorite wrestling promotion ever. The ranking system could use a little work, though.
Like, in college basketball just dominating midmajors constantly won’t get you into the Top 25. Beating Ryzin and D3 is a quad-4 win. Shouldn’t really affect your ranking much.

PAC's been winning matches on the secondary shows, which does matter, especially when he's been doing so in decisive fashion What hurts Hangman is he also goes a full week without competing and might go another full week unless he also competes on the secondary shows. You can really creep up if you do that. It is kinda silly though. The main event talent doesn’t wrestle the secondary shows (Hangman had his first match on one a couple weeks ago) so beating a bunch of soup cans on dark and dark 2 can put you up the rankings ahead of other guys that only wrestle on dynamite in marquee matches. If this is the case from here on out, Joey Janela should be a perineal #1 contender.

Sounds like doing the whole rankings thing based on win/loss records alone gives things a bit of a false economy. Maybe they need to add some secondary element that allows you to value wins on the PPVs and named Dynamite specials higher than those from regular Dynamite, Dark and Elevation. I don’t know, maybe points or something like that.

Janela has literally never won a match on Dynamite, PAC hasn't been pinned in a match in over a year Like I get if you think the ranking system is shit, but it's not the same lol

Really I think trying to do a ranking system in wrestling is just an inherently stupid idea. There's no way to make it work and leads to a lot of stupid shit like Tay and Britt for some reason getting a title shot just for being #1 but SCU having to do that pointless four way. And Miro getting a title shot seemingly just because he wants one.

To be fair to Miro, I pity the fool working for AEW who has to tell him that he can't get a title shot whenever he wants... because that person's totally f***ed.

And also, the TNT title doesn’t have a ranking system. Unless, like, Warhorse won some Dark matches that didn’t air.

It’s a valid opinion.

I quite frankly do not see people complain about AEW ranking system more than here, as a whole it's literally not even that serious of a deal.

A lot of people like the ranking system. But people have been bringing up more critiques like this across the board lately. It’s a valid opinion. It is different from other companies, it's used in storylines, people get excited by it coming out every week, and it's just a fun way to feature people and maybe show who's getting a push. I don't think it's "an inherently stupid idea." And I don't believe "There's no way to make it work and leads to a lot of stupid shit". It's a storyline device, and isn't meant to be a shoot ranking system.

I have issues with the ranking system, but I have bigger issues with the WWE system of “if it didn’t happen today, it doesn’t matter” that produces stuff like random main eventer Jinder Mahal, so I’ll take it. I just think that beating other ranked people should matter more than strictly the W/L record. It would be kind of cool if they had a Joe Lunardi type analyzing why the rankings are what they are on the YouTube Channel weekly or something. Also, it has to be said that AEW knows that the ranking system is kind of goofy. It’s like half of Britt Baker’s character at the moment.

And Mark saying "A lot of people like the ranking system" also isn't a valid opinion? He wasn't saying people didn't like it or people can't critique it, but he was also saying the feeling isn't totally mutual on the critique.

Maybe they need to add some secondary element that allows you to value wins on the PPVs and named Dynamite specials higher than those from regular Dynamite, Dark and Elevation. I don’t know, maybe points or something like that. Enforce mandatory matches and rules for those in the top 5 and work it into storyline For example let's say Hangman Page is number two contender and Brian Cage is number three. Omega beats whoever the number one contender is and it is said whoever wins between Cage and Page is the new number one and gets a mandatory title shot. If you lose in this situation you fall to number 5 If you want to extend the rules, in order for you to break in the top five from the top ten you have to beat someone in the top five. Number 5 five is always the bubble spot and must defend against whoever they are put against Basic ground rules like that will keep a top 10 rating interesting

AEW has been inconsistent with their rankings. Darby once got a world title match being ranked 4th, yet Britt has to work her way up to #1 to get a title shot.
