Peacock doesn't want anything before the late 2000s acknowledged, does it?

Dang it! I was legit looking forward to the Luger one. Wonder if it's a licensing issue. What would the issue be? The docs are almost all WWE archive footage and interviews shot by WWE. Any outside footage would be cleared first before being used. I'm thinking the editing department was gutted in the recent budget cuts, leading to a smaller staff having to work on finishing the editing process on these documentaries. Who needs editing when you can have Kevin Dunn insert 572,331,293 camera cuts into raw footage and call it a day?

I wish this was to refocus on home video (particularly BR docs and match collections), but I don't think BRs did that well despite looking considerably better than The Network, unfortunately. That, and everything is about keeping people on streaming platforms. Whatever the reasoning, I expect it to be anti-consumer.

Maybe from Khan, we have a new policy.
In character, KAYFABE only documentaries.

The thinking is probably 'Why are we making in house documentaries when A&E are doing them and paying us?' They'll get the few ongoing projects near completion wrapped up then fire everyone.

I doubt A&E will do ones on things like Luger or Vladimir. They'd be more likely to do ones where we already know everything like ones on Cena, Sting, etc, basically the ones casual fans will know about (and it's not like we'll be seeing a Dark Side episode on Vlad either, so no alternative there).

The thinking is probably 'Why are we making in house documentaries when A&E are doing them and paying us?' They'll get the few ongoing projects near completion wrapped up then fire everyone. WWE has spent a lot of money to basically own the history of American wrestling, but now things are being run by someone who doesn't care about any of that and is going to emphasize these sorts of external deals and a lot of streamlining efforts that are going to make all of that shut down. Between this and the Peacock deal, WWE's ownership over this history and years of aggressive library collection are now in the hands of third parties looking only for the stuff they know they can sell to non-wrestling audiences. Stuff that only wrestling fans would care about will never see much release or exposure because WWE's ownership of history is now only a commodity to sell to third parties to in turn sell to mainstream audiences who will only want to see the absolute most basic stuff, and any insight further will fall by the wayside.

Thought they were already finished; must have to do with the amount of staff that was cut.
“Halt releasing” is a weird way to phrase it; instead of “there isnt anyone left to do editing”

That, and everything is about keeping people on streaming platforms. Whatever the reasoning, I expect it to be anti-consumer. It's not that blu-rays didn't do well as much as the patent for blu-rays is still abnormally expensive to license and WWE ultimately pivoted to deliberately driving people toward the network. In a cost-cutting world, blu-ray lines being off the table stateside seems like something indefinite.

Probably a situation where the Peacock deal stipulates they must produce a minimum number of hours of content and they don’t want to bother making anything beyond that. So why were more even started to begin with?

Is the Luger doc not being shown in the US? For my station that has the network in Canada it’s still showing a new Icons episode for tonight at 8pm.
