I also think this has to do with the Peacock sale of the network. I doubt they have much incentive to churn these out now that it doesn’t directly affect their profits. I'd have an extremly hard time believing this, to be honest. Mostly because you'd think with the Peacock purchase, they'd want more content from WWE to make it unique compared to its rivals. They are going to pay them $5bn over 5 years afterall. It's likely as a result from previous budget cuts. $1 billion over 5 years. $200 million a year, on top of $205 million a year from Fox for SD and $265 million a year from NBC-U for Raw.

My mistake. That's still a f***load of money, though. And enough for Peacock to be like "That's not...all you'll be doing for us, right?" Because at the end of the day, they still need stuff to be able to brag about for monthly emails and videos in the same way Netflix and Disney+ do.

So is this a permanent halt on all docs? I haven’t really seen that reported elsewhere yet. Hopefully they’ll keep churning them out after a small delay.

I even had an Ariba shirt when I was 12.

I might have a look at the 80s stuff on the Network once I finish watching all the Nitro and ECW era on it since I know Tito was around then.

I guess we're going to have to rely on Unauthorized documentaries now?

It should be noted that the already produced content that gets added to WWE Network on a regular basis remains unaffected. 2021 Raw, Smackdown, and NXT episodes are still getting put up at the same time as always.
Classic content gets added to the Network on the third Monday of every month, which would mean a drop is set for next week. We will see if it happens. It's not clear if the classic content is handled by the crew that works on the documentaries and other Network original shows or the group that handles the editing of present day WWE TV and PPV shows.

Thinking about this more, I really can’t see this being a Peacock thing because, well, they’re a streaming service and want as much possible to brag about for the month.
Right now, we’re seeing a wave of these services all picking up properties or doing continuations of old franchises or stuff from critically acclaimed creators. I can’t see a scenario where Peacock pays WWE a billion for 5 years and then turns to them and says “We want more original content…except from you”.

My god, I didn't know a money making relationship could be more frustrating than the Saudi thing, yet here we are.
(IF this is on NBC too....)

They are required to air one documentary a year as a part of the deal so this seems almost a "bare minimum" thing on wwe's end, unless they are shopping them around.

Seems a weird thing to specify considering but eh, I'm not a streaming service.

It sort of more sets the idea of them pivoting this as being post-big event stuff…which leads to the question of why didn’t you just do that in the first place?
