As to Punk going to WWE, here’s a quote from a Punk interview with SI three months ago:
“ “I don’t need the money. And the way the wrestling business is now, it’s wacky. You’ve got WWE, who has multiple billion-dollar television deals, and the television’s awful. I go back there, I’m just another guy. And it’s not even that—I’d be just another guy that’s doing not-good television. I want to do stuff that’s good. I want my name attached to quality projects, where it’s fun and it makes people laugh, smile, think and people don’t hate watching it. I want to do fun stuff.”

I know something like this would be major news but half of me wishes they wouldn't try to leak out every single little detail as they get it.
Side bar: Does AEW announce this ahead of time? A surprise Daniel Bryan debut reeks of Goldberg v Hogan in Atlanta. If he really his signed, give that shit a solid date a promote the hell out of it on TNT. Would likely be their highest rating yet.

I don't like him at all. But I'm here for that initial pop.
Just please no more flailing elbows off the top rope.

I'm in a weird place on Punk where I want AEW to pick him up for the feather in their cap it'd be but I have zero desire to ever actually see him on AEW television.

I think Danielson would be the better signing overall, but Punk would definitely create a buzz.

Might even be deliberate by AEW, someone leaking the news causes even more eyes to turn to the product.

It Punk and Danielson sign, I may have to learn to like AEW. That’s where I’m at. I’m going to have to eat my irrational dislike of Cody and The Elite crew to watch my guys.

I tried watching like a month or 6 weeks ago and stirred an issue when I asked if it was always this cringey. Looks like I gotta eat crow.

The story inside says fightful can't confirm yet. Yet they ran this tweet. Ugh, clickbait got me there!

If this is somehow true, watch his first feud be with f***ing Cody.

I will say that if Punk comes back, it'll likely be because he wants to do something. Not just "end on a better note", but actually measurably add to his legacy. A run he wants to have, a character he wants to bring out, even a person he wants to build up to put over.
At least, that's what it would have been with the old Punk. The big interesting unknown to me is if this is the old Punk. He's married, reasonably content with his life, and demonstrably both doesn't and doesn't have to live, eat, breathe, sleep wrestling like he once did. That fire for what he was doing was a huge part of why Punk could be so compelling as a performer. He was very open about a lot of it, very heart on his sleeve despite being a private guy in other ways.
So what is CM Punk as a performer when he doesn't NEED wrestling anymore? I'm not sure, but I think it potentially may surprise people who are expecting him to just be an older version of the guy from ten years ago.

Punk and Bryan being heavily rumored to sign with AEW at the same time is gonna give some wrestling fans a heart attack lmfao.
If they both show up I don't think you can argue that they will move a needle at least SOMEWHAT compared to what AEW is already doing. One would arguably do it but both of them?? That's incredibly huge.

I believe there's something to the Danielson news (even though I'm not sure about the source). Lighter schedule/special attraction booking, similar pay, creative control, and working for multiple promotions in multiple countries like he's said he wanted to? Only difficulty would have to be saying goodbye to a company he's spent a good portion of his career with that's treated him good for the most part (bad booking when he was at his peak popularity not withstanding).
The Punk news is a bit harder to believe since he's been out for so long, but a comeback helps him stay relevant and would be some good mainstream publicity for AEW, a good pay day for him, and helps legitimize a true WWE competitor which was a main gripe of his Once Upon A Pipe Bomb. Again I think it would be a special attraction type deal. Maybe he got word someone whose wrestling insight he trusts and respects was heading there and that put him more at ease to sign with them after reports a few months ago that he was unsure about Cody and the EVP crew. Interesting both these rumors leak out there on the same day.
Biggest question if both rumors turn out to be true is would they debut together as an Outsiders/Invasion angle deal (maybe aligned with NJPW/Bullet Club) or are they better off doing their own thing? I think there's good arguments to be made in favor of both.
