I mean, that wasn't a real championship to begin with. They had that belt made to represent 'the real world championship.' At the time, it was usually confused with a WWF Tag Team Championship belt, but it was specially made for Ric.

Was the JCP/WCW belt out of WWF's possession at the time or was there already an injunction against using the belt so they went with this? For as gutsy as Vince could be, he should have just put the real belt on TV and distorted it just enough for fans to see what it was. But then again, it would bite him in the butt with Alundra years later.

But then again, it would bite him in the butt with Alundra years later. WCW filed suit against WWF to keep the NWA belt from being shown. At first, WWF switched to using a lookalike that was not exactly the same, but there was a ruling that they could not use this version either. The issue was the Jim Crockett commissioned that championship and this was included in the intellectual property that Turner purchased from the Crocketts.

It's not clear if it was that or if it was because Flair had returned the real belt to WCW. Flair had a match with Jim Neidhart on Superstars that was taped on Oct. 21, 1991. He had the actual WCW belt for that match, and it was not censored when the footage aired on Nov. 9. At the Nov. 11-13 tapings, he had the knockoff belt. The first time WCW showed the belt on TV after getting it back wasn't until July 1992.

They filmed some sort of WWF tv segment with him as champion in 1993/1994. Not sure if it was a test. youtu.be/Ucuy9jY2EUkHe just looks...... right with that belt I know the crowd was dead for the segment (probably because it was during a 4 hour taping), but the belt looks real good on Lex.

I know there was a mag picture with Savage with Hogan '86. Possibly taken from a Hogan/Savage match pre Savage's IC title reign where he beat Hogan by count-out and Elizabeth put the strap on him.

I know that this whole gimmick felt pretty forced for Lex, but he looks great with that belt. Shame he never got it. Honestly, if Vince didn't decide that he could make it better if they dragged the Lex Express stuff to Mania! I think the All American Lex stuff would have led to a decent run with the title for Lex... although probably not to the extent Vince wanted.

On a similar note here’s Andre with the IC title Where are those two photos from? Andre is from a match against the Ultimate Warrior from 1989, you can find it on YouTube it’s about 12 minutes long.

I seem to remember Andre holding the belt but the photo was him looking to the left, at least I think it was the IC belt.
The Flair title makes a little more sense now, moreso if they actually showed it, because obviously it looks like a high quality knock off of the tag title.

There's supposedly a picture of Ricky Morton with the big gold belt after one of his matches with Flair in '86.
