Maybe it’s because I’m not a big hangman mark, maybe it’s cause I enjoy the elite, maybe because I know Hangman’s getting that strap at All Out but I didn’t get all the hub-bub lol

As someone who doesn’t watch Dynamite... Was it something I would’ve done? No. It feels like trying to score a 10 point trick when all they needed was a 7 to lock in the gold (I’ve been watching a lot of Olympics, OK?). Dare I say, it did seem a bit like something WWE would do for the sake of a swerve.
But that said... They’re NOT WWE. They haven’t got the baggage, but they HAVE got goodwill, and I’d be very surprised if the endgame still wasn’t Omega v Hangman. And goodness knows The Dark Order have come back from worse than this.

I think it's interesting the language used is that Hangman "vacates" the no.1 spot. He's not falling down the rankings or anything, he's just taken out altogether. Easier to slot someone back in than having to work their way back up again...
Although I wanted Hangman and the DO to win and get the match finalized, I'm more than willing to give AEW a chance to see what they will do. I don't believe for a second that plans have changed and Hangman won't get his shot, not after all of the work AEW have put into this story and the hot reactions from the crowd. Every crowd so far has been really hot for Hangman. He's so over.
Whether there will be another match with higher stakes (title shot or leave AEW, for example) or Hangman manages to get Kenny without Callis and just goads him into a match (Callis is definitely the thinker and cooler head in that partnership) or something else, I don't know.
It's a bump in the road, but not a road closure, so to speak.

I’m curious if the other big fed being so misery driven makes this result taste a bit more bitter? Curious what y’all cats think but I don’t know how big overlap is between two audiences I think WWE’s misery booking fetish and general failure to pay off stories meaningfully has kinda underservedly poisoned the well when it comes to “wait and see”.

This isn't WWE where I long since can't trust the "wait and see" attitude, so I'm willing to give AEW the benefit of the doubt here.

Like I said in the live thread, I don’t really get where they go from here with five weeks into All Out. If he’s getting the title shot at the PPV, how does he get it now? They had a hot crowd ready to see the moment happen. It sure seemed like the perfect opportunity. Now they’ll need a whole different way for him to win the title shot back. Unless they have some really spectacular way, I think it won’t be as good as winning the match tonight would have been. And if he’s not getting the title shot at All Out, then they’ve made him Lex Luger at Summerslam 93. He has all the momentum in the world and the crowd is clearly ready for it. If they attempt to drag it out longer, I think they’re killing that momentum. There are a few ways One is Khan reversing the decision because of Elite's interference or at least Giving Hangman a chance at it. Maybe vs Omega and Nick in a Handicap match? Hangman might also go the extra mile and for the title match put his career on the line. They aren't gonna drag it past All Out. It's been the plan for two years. They aren't gonna kill it. They just want The Elite to be on top another week or so before the scales tip.

I will say, I feel like the Dark Order were made to look ineffective, which is a problem I've had with their booking for a long time. Losing by rollup, count out, regular pin and literally getting dunked on isn't a great look. It just seems like no matter their alignment, no matter who they're feuding with, they're there to put everyone else over and never get their own heat. They regularly lost to the Nightmare Family and the Elite when they were heels, with only Brodie and sometimes Anna Jay getting wins. They've lost more than they've won against the Hardy Family Office. They STILL haven't gotten their win back against The Acclaimed. And now, the only way they win against the Super Elite is if Hangman gets the win. I think this has actually been the point though. Like the failure isn't just on Hangman it's on them... they need to find themselves and get their mojo back. They and Hangman need to go on a run and prove they deserve this and CAN beat The Elite... instead of just being handed a shot

I am seriously shocked that people thought the huge happiness from the Hangman win and Omega jobbing was going to happen on July 28th. I get wanting to be happy right away, that's out society, but again.
You're not getting your Hangman win on July 28th. You're not seeing the World Champion lose on July 28th. THEY JUST SET IT UP LAST WEEK.
Edit: The story has been going for 2-3 years. They started the cycle last week. Sorry ya'll, this is going to take some time.

I’m curious if the other big fed being so misery driven makes this result taste a bit more bitter? Curious what y’all cats think but I don’t know how big overlap is between two audiences I think that plays into things. We've seen similar misery booking in other companies, too, like WCW and TNA. Especially when it comes to those who are in the position of authority figures or have the influence of them. And while the Elite are not on-screen authority, we know Omega and the Bucks are EVP's behind the scenes. So I wouldn't be surprised that people are going to think the worst case scenario will happen.
But like I said, I have faith that AEW won't do that. My optimism about the booking in general hasn't been betrayed outside of a couple of instances. If they botch it here, it will sour me on the product significantly. But all that said, this is the longest I've enjoyed a product without any significant disappointments in years. Even NJPW, my other favorite promotion, can't claim that.

Give me Page getting a win to earn the shot to a big pop over an announcement by TK. And they could have had that tonight.

Like, what the hell do they have up their sleeve that is going to be a satisfying way to reverse that stipulation? The fact that the stipulation is likely to be reversed drives me up a wall about as much as the result and the execution. If they hadn't announced it, I would have pretty much expected this result and been more fine with it.

So to them they let Hangman down. I feel like this is a way to set them up on their own redemption arc as well... more than likely for the Rochester show. Also something to point out. They want Hangman beating Omega to be huge. The more I think about it the more I realize they couldn't have Kenny get pinned in the match. They could have had him eliminated in a fluke but is what it is

As a writer (not just journalist, but fiction as well) the story makes complete sense to me. This is the 2nd act part where the heroes are beaten down and all hope is lost. It's the scene in Avengers after Culson is killed, Thor and Hulk are down, team trust is out the window. Just need Samuel L Jackson to come in and lie about some trading cards.
This is "Apollo is dead and Rocky is beating himself up for not throwing in the title." It wasn't the right time for Drago to lose. He had to look like a...well killer.
What I'm saying is, the Dark Order needs an 80s montage.
Again, All Out is going to end with Hangman on the Dark Order's shoulders as he holds up the AEW title in victory. It's the obvious ending but that is what makes AEW great, storytelling that makes sense.

If they lost this match, they sure better have an even better way for Page to earn the match. If the eventual way he gets it isn’t as good, this was a mistake.

I don't like it, mostly because the only 'outs' they have put themselves into is way too convoluted for them to do in less than five weeks leading to All Out.
- If Tony Khan just goes "I make the matches" and gives him his title shot, it defeats the whole purpose of Page overcoming adversity and his two year character build
- If they hold a tournament or some other loophole match to get him into the title match (ie have him win another Casino Battle Royale at the preshow of All Out), it rushes the storyline for little investment from the crowd
- If Omega gets overly confident and grants him another rematch (or does it in a fit of rage), it goes against everything Kenny has done in the last year since he won the belt by being the chickenshit heel.
- They can't do a 'gauntlet against the Elite' for Page as it's took similar to the 'Labors of Jericho' (don't even get me started on how pointless that storyline is, MJF vs Jericho should've ended at DoN).
****
I'm sure there are other methods for them to get him into the title picture in time for All Out, but if they don't pull this trigger for this next PPV, Page's momentum is going to falter very quickly. Worse, if the rumors are true and Punk or Bryan make their debuts with AEW in the near future, the crowd support is going to naturally swing behind them faster than Page has a chance to complete his arc.
I get that we'll need a week or two to "wait and see what they're doing," but it's going to take some serious booking gymnastics for them to get this back in proper footing for All Out. If they're calling an audible due to the risk of losing crowd for the event thanks to COVID and want to wait to put the belt on him until it's safe, that's just as bad IMO.

This is something that bugs me about pro wrestling. WWE has cast such a shadow over everything, that AEW isn't allowed to do anything that WWE has consistently failed at. It's like you go to Shake Shack and order a burger, and expect to get a Big Mac, because you always eat Big Macs. Shake Shack has different burgers. Like judge it on that, not freaking Wendys or Burger King or whatever.

It felt like pretty basic heel booking to me. The Elite were cheating bastards, our hero was OP and almost won in a three-on-one situation regardless.
The Dark Order got kicked off BTE and quickly found a way back. They'll be fine. If Hangman jobs out in his title match, then I'll complain.
