not to sound heartless but we're not giving out random colour names again. it's caused nothing but headaches since it was done that first time with people thinking those with coloured names are mods/board staff both to complain to and about.

we have no issue with organising fund raisers for things or having links for donations pages (as long as they're legitimate or don't break our board & proboard's rules.) but we're not doing that as a "thank you" again.

sure be annoyed at no more new colour names to posters who are not board staff, but do not lie about being told you cannot do fundraisers.

I get precious little time with my ten year-old son due to the fact that I work nights full-time and live a good distance away from him. So I booked some time off work and took him glamping.

The first day was fun. He made his first campfire and had s'mores for the first time.

Today I woke up sick as a dog. I've not had so much as the sniffles all damn year, but today I'm full of snot, breathing like a 90 year-old chainsmoker, and have a pounding headache that painkillers barely take the edge off. My son isn't much better.

On top of that, the cloudy-but-dry weather forecast turned out to be wrong. Rain all day.

So we cut our losses and returned home a day early to be greeted with glorious sunshine and clear skies.

I am just a little bitter about this last turn.

Only reason I got up early this morning was the hit the weekend only junkstore then run to town and pick up my mothers meds.

Meds I was told were ready on thursday.

Junkstore got there early. Waited 20 minutes for it to open. Then before I could stand and take the 10 steps to the door some jackass ran over and got inside before me.

Which means that 25 buck N64 with 8 games and 4 controllers sold.

Then get to town to learn pharmacy dont open till 9am. Go to get breakfast and Mcdonalds is out of the collector cups.

Then after waiting 20 minutes in line learn the meds aren't ready.....

Been taking NyQuil and trying to rest as much as possible the last three days in the hope I'd be able to make my flight to Vegas this morning, but within about five minutes of getting up I was seriously questioning the decision, and within 10 I'd decided I'd just take the hit and texted my friends to say I wouldn't be there.

A couple of them are medical professionals who said that if symptoms are persisting like this it probably isn't just the flu.  So I made an appointment at an urgent care and paid $205 to get told I have COVID-19, and a prescription for Paxlovid.

Went over to the pharmacy to get the prescription filled, only to find my insurance won't cover it and it would be $1600.  Not trying to spend that money unless absolutely necessary, so I'm opting to tough it out for right now.

TL;DR Spending my vacation laid up with COVID-19 after dropping several hundred dollars on flights and hotels.

Earlier this year, the school district replaced the projectors and screens in our classrooms with Apple TVs, which would have been great, except the cables that connect our computers to the TVs are crap, so whenever I show a video or slideshow to the kids, the screen flickers and the audio cuts in and out.

Eventually, it got so bad that my computer couldn't connect at all, so I fiddled around with it and figured out that I could connect the computer wirelessly. It was a bit of a pain because the TV wouldn't automatically detect my computer, so every time I turned it on, I would have to connect manually, but at least it was no longer flickering because of the bad wiring.

Now, my school-issued laptop is an older model, but it gets the job done. The speakers and camera don't work, but I only really need to use them when I have a Zoom meeting, which only happens 3 or 4 times a year. I made the mistake of mentioning this in passing to one of our tech people a few weeks ago, and that's where the fun started.

Yesterday, a tech guy from central office arrived at my room in the middle of first period to fix the speakers and camera on my laptop. As soon as he looked at my computer, he noticed that it was connected wirelessly to the Apple TV and said, "You can't do that. That's an Apple TV. You can only connect an iPad to it. Any other device will cause interference." Now, I'm no tech guy, but that sounds like bullshit to me, but I didn't argue. I explained that the reason I connected it wirelessly was because the cables were crap, and he spent the rest of first period, all of second period, and most of third period troubleshooting and replacing cables and adapters before finally deciding that he needed different tools and parts and said he'd be back later. At some point during the process, he bent the bracket that holds the TV on the wall, so now the screen tilts up at an angle.

He came back during sixth period with some different tools and parts and spent most of the period working on it some more, and eventually got it working. Then he started to leave, and I reminded him about the speakers and camera, which he had completely forgotten about. He got the camera working, but the speakers were a lost cause.

During seventh period, I tried showing a video to test the new connection, and it worked fine for a few minutes, but then the screen started flickering again just like it used to before.

TL;DR Not only did the tech guy not fix the problem he came to fix, he made everything else worse in the process.

Haven't been able to eat or drink much the last couple days due to COVID, and correspondingly haven't had to use the can much.

This morning I've had to keep on running in there because I'm gassy and these are not farts I can trust.

I run a small apartment complex.

Waste Management is a garbage disposal company that bought up most of the independent landfills and then once they had a monopoly, jacked up their prices. WM is one of the sleaziest companies I've ever dealt with. They do not have their prices listed anywhere for public perusal. They will do anything to avoid actually telling you what you're supposedly paying them for. When I took issue with that, they hemhawed about since gas prices fluctuate it would be impossible to provide an itemized bill.

So I quit paying them and started hauling my own garbage. I did find a non-Waste Management landfill about 45 minutes away. And I live in the sticks, so a 90 minute round trip isn't that big a deal to us.

(I used to live in Baltimore MD. Back then I thought of 15 minutes as a long drive. Now I think of a 15 minute drive as a luxury.)

I just got a second job because if you're a landlord and you're not scalping your tenants it doesn't pay worth a crap. I can't haul my garbage on Fridays anymore.

I found another independent landfill that has super-limited Saturday morning hours. 55 minute drive each way. I loaded up a truckload of trash and went out there.

They only take cash and I never carry cash.

And so I wasted two hours of my first Saturday off, and that made me angry today.

My laptop of many years finally went out on me, a few days before I’m set to return to college, so I’ve gotta now drop a few hundred on a laptop on top of tuition. Also got asked to come in to cover a shift tomorrow, so I’m gonna be missing some of the All In PPV tomorrow, and possibly all of it if I can’t find a way to get it.

Hospital ER temporary service closures.

Hospital ER in home town is open (today), but ER in nearby town 100km away is down (because of doctor shortage) today.

Had to take my mother to the ER today because she's experiencing stomach pain (years ago she had a cancerous growth removed, along with a third of her colon, so we try to be careful when something comes up), and two patients from a car crash in neighboring town had to dealt with first.

Not mad at the patients but the situation pisses me off.

So, the psychiatrist I have scheduled an appointment ended up leaving the hospital and now I'll have a current one on a new date. Since 2016, every psychiatrist I have had ended up being short term and left out of sudden. Of two of them, the longest period of time was three years each one. Man, I don't know if this is a recurrent theme with psychiatrists but I'm tired of starting over again with a new one.

Hasn’t grown in 2 years so the insurance decided my MRI isn’t needed and therefore not covered. If it were growing (and potentially killing me) then it would be covered.

However the only way to know if it is, is to have the MRI.

It’s a frustrating loop.

Had a similar issue close to 10 years ago. New group took over the local mental health office. So I get a new therapist. Nice lady see her every 15 days. After 2 visits I show up for my next one get told she got moved to a different office and I will have a new therapist. And get told a new date to show up.

New guy is great. See him maybe 8 times ,same every 15 days,and show up and guess what he got moved they didnt tell me and got a new person.

This one I saw once and we didnt agree on something. Would be skirting board rules to even vaguly hint at the issue,just it wasn't political at all. So I tell them to not bother seeing up the next appointment.

Know someone else going to same place. they are getting a new therapist at lest 2 times a year.

Only good thing is same place I see my doctor. He is great. Had him for over 10 years.

Them:"Yeah, you motherf***ers charged my credit card $115.48 today. I don't even live at that address anymore."

Me:"You no longer live at that address? Is it safe to assume that you moved?"

Them:"Yeah."

Me:"Did you not transfer the service to your new address?"

Them:"No. I didn't want it anymore."

Me:"Oh. Okay. Did you cancel the service?"

Them:"No."

I worked at a school once (history teacher). Didn’t get my class assignments till the day before classes started.

Hard to plan for the year when you don’t know what you are actually teaching
