I think Sabre is a good dark horse for this tournament. Not only that, but I don't think the EVIL experiment will put off Gedo from trying yet another first-time champ either. Whilst he's had a lot of success in the NJC, the G1 has mainly seen him be a spoiler for guys like Naito rather than an actual contender. This G1 would be a candidate to pull off the Sabre/Taichi-gun that we've all fantasy booked. Given that Suzuki will be in the US, missing his 2nd G1 in the past 3 years, it may now be the right time for upsupration.
As a corollary, I do think we will see either Naito vs Tanahashi, or Okada vs Tanahashi for the US title at the Dome next year. The recent changes to the championships would incentivive returning to some wells.

Honestly, yeah...a US one, with the NJPW regulars & Strong guys, as well as outside guys from places like AEW & Impact, they could have a very good US G1 Climax, if they wanted to. Yeah, like obviously a NJPW regular would win the G1 but it would be fun to have Mox, Archer in the G1 again since they did it before and Minoru is out in the states so throw him in. Can easily fill out the list with others like Karl Anderson Hell, Josh Alexander has already competed on Strong a few times, he'd be a great addition to it.

I think you can do a simple 8 man run on the U.S. side White, Minoru, Archer, Alexander, Anderson, Lawlor, Juice and a surprise entrant maybe Bryan Danielson assuming he is going to work with NJPW at some point

Stacking the G1 with Bullet Club has got to be some sick joke on Gedo's part. I'm still not over Tama's shitshow in the 2018 G1. They obviously want this House of Torture and potential Bullet Club civil war storyline as a big part of the G1, but it's going to come at the expense of the tournament's quality. Yujiro and Chase have no business being in the G1, but they're obvious filler. Tanga's also probably not going to do any good, but he at least is fairly credible. I think part of it is the House of Torture angle, but it's also just a "who is available?" issue. Jay White and Suzuki are in the US, Ospreay's got COVID, guys like Moxley or Archer are in the US obviously, too, I think Kojima's in the US, I forget. Nagato swore off competing in another G1, and I am really not sure if Makabe, Honma, or Tenzan really want to put themselves through a G1 at this stage of their lives. I don't mind Chase, he actually puts in an effort and has had some good matches. Nobody wants to this much Tanga, and Tama was awful in his last tournament. This year looks so weak, I might not even watch it and I usually get really excited about the G1, even last year.

The only one I’m underwhelmed by is Yujiro Takahashi. Everyone else at least has varying degrees of credibility.

A Japanese and Western G1 winner face off at night one of WrestleKingdom could also work.
Winner gets the shot at whoever comes out on top of the “Real IWGP World Champion” storyline

For the first time in I don’t know how long, I’m much more interested in the N-1 than I am the G1.

A Western G1 sounds cool, and they definitely have the talent to do so. The only issue is, where do they fit it in? Cause even with one block of 10 wrestlers, that's 45 matches- at least 9 episodes of Strong if you do 5 matches per episode. And what happens to the rest of the roster while this goes on? The logistics just don't seem to be viable.

The G1 full schedule has been announced: www.njpw1972.com/103924While the main events of the final two shows will be determined by point standings at the time (although if you look at them you may be able to guess), it's the top left in each image (or it should be) for the rest. Some notable ones to me were that the first two main events for the opening nights are Shingo/Ishii and Okada/Tanahashi. Naito/Shingo is the main event of Kobe World Memorial Hall, which I imagine was the plan ever since the venue was booked. There is also a show headlined by Okada vs. Tama Tonga.

It really looks like the B Block is gonna come down to that Okada/Cobb match on the last B Block night. A Block seems a little less clear, though you have to think KENTA/Ibushi on that block's final night will be the definitive match. I'm still thinking Okada/Ibushi finals.

Probably, though Okada/KENTA would certainly be an interesting choice if they did that, just since it'd be a comparatively fresh matchup.

I feel their styles work incredibly well together. I just think Ibushi's quest for 3 G1s, and 4 final appearances, in a row will be a huge part of this year's G1.

KENTA is sort of my dark horse to win it
He's been quiet for a min after having big time momentum and while I thought it was unthinkable to do him vs Shingo at WK for the title, right now it remains a possibility
