If it wasn’t called Cowboy Bebop and it was called something else with the names and places renamed would anyone still care about this show? It's not that simple. It's not really a case where they strayed too far from the original source, but more that they changed characters, relationships, and plot points in ways that are less effective than the original. They overexplain for plot convenience, they rush through episodes, and they alter the sequence of events in ways that are far less neat than the original. The show went out of its way to translate the world of Cowboy Bebop to live action, retaining names, keeping an absolute ton of references, but at times it feels a bit dumbed down and strange choices were made to streamline things. I probably enjoyed the show more than a good amount of people but you can definitely see its shortcomings due to transitioning to live action for a Western audience.

I finished watching it a few days ago. I had two episodes left to watch after the cancelation announcement was made and decided, ah why not. I liked all of the episodes to some degree except for episode 9. It went too cliche and simplified to explain Spike and Julia's past. You see one rushed romantic affair held on the backdrop of danger, you've seen them all. Otherwise, yeah, I mostly enjoyed it. Hopefully Daneilla Pineda will move on to be in other roles. I really enjoyed her.

As well as the aforementioned Alice in Borderland Erased got a live action remake that manga readers received more fondly that the anime. No Netflix big bucks either the standard cardboard sets and wooden acting of J doramas but it just worked really well (time travel plot can’t go wrong with those).

Maybe it's because I've been watching recently but, I wanna see City Hunter get adapted. Yeah, I know Ryo's.....quirks would be an issue but I think it can work. Well, it helps that City Hunter is mostly grounded in the real world. Just make a uber charismatic PI, cute assistant that's the sister of the PI's best friend that died, case of the week with some bits building up to a two part finale and bang it up in 10 eps. Yeah, Ryo is pretty much Anime Equalizer/Magnum/Spenser.

It was a dumbed down version and IMO that was never going to fly and it doesn't for most if not all live action anime adaptions.
But also ties into things like changing things for the sake of the culture depending on where it is being adapted to also.

There is a bit of culture shock between Japanese and Western sensibilities. Though things like Faye's outfit were changed for the sake of practicality more than anything as anime physics don't translate well to real life. Like, it's great for modeling in cosplay, but good luck trying to do any sort of action scenes in it without it falling off or being real uncomfortable for Pineda or stunt doubles.

I was disappointed to see the series cancelled. Personally I felt that it was a decent adaptation that managed to put its own spin on things while maintaining the spirit of the original. Some aspects flopped, some were fantastic and overall the show was enjoyable. A solid B. It was never going to be greater than an anime that is widely considered to be one of THE classics but it was a solid effort. I think another season may have seen it find its footing better. The Vicious and Julia stuff was probably the weakest and I think part of that came from trying to give them a larger role. The anime really didn't give us a lot of them, just enough to get the key points across and I think that was the better option. Overall, I had a good time with it though.
