I liked it and it was believable Hobbs is bigger and stronger than Starks. Starks while most likely being smaller and quicker, he was emotional and irrational. Make mistakes and get f**ed up which is what happen. It added a clear obstacle in his path and also gave vindication to Hobbs for wanting to leave Starks What I saw was mostly dissatisfaction with it being a squash, and I get that. But especially now that we've seen the trajectories these took, this was a real good call. It set them both onto paths where one became an instantly credible monster and the other found a good foundation to become a bit more of an underdog. Starks is just obviously great, obviously strong, obviously fast, but it gave him a lot of much-needed vulnerability to have to power through and it rounds him out really well to have trait. And honestly of course I have nothing agaisnt small guys beating big guys but I really enjoy when they sell it as "if the big guy catches the smaller guy offguard its over"

I thought it was a good call from the moment it happened. Usually, I'm skeptical when it comes to squashes in this manner, but I had a feeling this wasn't being done without purpose. From my understanding, this was them trying to tell the story of Ricky letting his emotions get the best of him. This was also done to present Hobbs as what his nickname suggests he is while also proving why he needed to break out on his own. To me, it's one of these instances where a loss benefits Ricky. He needed a setback in order to set the groundwork for a babyface run.

Swerve or Hobbs as the next heel champ is fine with me. Hobbes I feel is the next guy to go on a heel run and then become a legit babyface. Not in the Big E or Cody or Cena “big hero” mold but like what they’re hoping for with Wardlow because I see even more flashes of charisma in Hobbes ATM (not knocking Wardlow, he’s great). Swerve as the next Jake Roberts where you want to like him because he’s so charming but you know he’s going to stab you in the back is money waiting to happen.

As much as I'd love to see Keith Lee going 1-on-1 with top of the card guys (Omega, Danielson, Mox, Cole again eventually, Page, etc), Starks really should be the first guy to break through to the main event scene. He's got all the tools. He can promo with the top guys, he doesn't have any conditioning questions, he can work with guys of all different styles, he doesn't look at all out of place, and the crowd reactions are pretty consistent in different markets. I hope it's as even as it can be with MJF coming out on top, obviously. The only issue is it being MJF's first defense, so you want him to have a really strong showing as well. If any two guys can accomplish getting both over on the mic and in the match, it's them. But it'll definitely be a balancing act. You have to establish Starks well though, as this is long overdue for both him as a demographic (Sky's sonic ring notwithstanding) and him as a performer.

Starks should be up there now. Like the hold point of being FTW champion should have done that for him. Being he was the top young guy they took from the NWA when the company was going somewhere. Young and talented in both in the ring and on the mic. He is over and never had that issue. I fell he or Swerve are the two that will break through. They been booking Starks strong in this contenders tournament. With winning enough though he hurt deal.

I think Starks would already be a top guy if he didn't have the neck injury. They were clearly setting up something with Christian to help elevate Ricky at the time

I personally don't really "get" Starks but its certainly not because of his size. His mannerisms and stuff just don't click with me personally.

I think Swerve is going to be a S-tier heel champion.

I had no idea that Starks' pose was Jojo inspired. He's as much a nerd as Keith Lee lol.

Swerve's got big "final boss" energy and if they ever want to turn MJF face, Swerve is the perfect foil for a babyface Max.

I must admit, I wasn't sold on Swerve as a main event talent when he first joined AEW but this team with Keith Lee and his absolute bastardry over the last few weeks has sold me on him. I think the tag team has done so much for both of them.
