It's either going to be Starks or Hobbs, IMO. One thing I remember from a few months back is that when Lee was still relatively new to the company, he had a 1-on-1 match with Hobbs, and Hobbs got the visual 3 count when the ref was either knocked out or distracted. That always stood out to me because they went out of their way to protect Hobbs in a loss even though Lee came in with so much hype. I think Khan has big plans for Hobbs and it's coming to fruition now. Starks is the guy I would give the ball to first though. He's been ready.

Swerve in the main event would get me glued to the show again.
Swerve as world champion would have me watching every week as soon as I could.

Awesome that he won, but not thrilled he’ll be saddled with QT seemingly. That doesn’t seem like a main event act, but we’ll see

Swerve in the main event would get me glued to the show again. Swerve as world champion would have me watching every week as soon as I could. 100%. Swerve screams money to me. He's absolutely someone with that intangible it factor who you could have headlining a PPV. I never 'got' Keith Lee the way a lot of fans do/did, but from the very first time I saw Swerve he just had that star factor. For other talent who could diversify the main event: Starks and Hobbs strike me as decidedly midcard. Moreso Hobbs, honestly, I get he's built and all but he just has that "2004-08 WWE midcard hoss getting fattened up for Undertaker/Cena" vibe. Starks..maybe with the right presentation he could be a title contender now & then but I don't see him as the champion. Has a Ziggler vibe almost. I always used to think Scorpio Sky had a high ceiling but he's just never quite done it in AEW. Both members of the Acclaimed could go solo and do well I think- Max has the talking and Bowens is crazily underrated in-ring. It's crazy how much they've improved in the past 18 months or so. They've got tons of potential solo and if they do I hope it's more New Day 'solo but still friends' than a feud. Dante Martin I love watching in the ring but don't think he's ever gonna touch the main event. He's tons of fun but I don't see it. A guy I always thought would break out from the early days of AEW, who's now basically stopped existing, is Marq Quen. Love that guy and he's barely doing anything anymore.

Man the way this went down feels like one of those monkey's paw kinda wishes. We got Hobbs some gold, but "negative interest" QT Marshall is part of it, and it was kind of a lame way to win. We'll see what happens. Maybe Hobbs will turn on Marshall next week and destroy him and all will be right with the world.

Like I said it is a step up but yeah don't get it twisted it is still marginal and AEW is still dragging their ass on diversity but for Hobbs you have to grade it as is and this is first singles title

Thats my prediction

Jades been TBS champ for over a year, Ricky Starks is getting more shine, Sky, Samoa Joe and most recently Hobbs won the TNT title in the past year, the Acclaimed are the hottest act in the company and presented as such, I think it’s time to change the title of the thread

Its still whiter than sour cream unfournately. Every year its the same old well it takes time to build stars, etc. But nobody has moved up to be with the Hangman, DB, and MJFs of the world.

They've made strides in every other division but the men's main event scene, which is weird. Them being only 4 years old can't be an excuse anymore IMO.

I think for me it's changed in the sense of "There aren't a ton of options you can see becoming the world champion" to having Starks, Lee, Swerve, and Hobbs all pretty much there whenever they're ready Also seeing guys like AR Fox get signed and pushing Top Flight and Acclaimed also helps a lot

No one is close to even being the first AEW World champion of color. This is minimal upswing to what should be bigger movement

Jericho, Mox, Omega, Hangman, Punk, and MJF have been the hottest acts when they won the title. Those were guys that couldn’t have been skipped over. I’m sure if Lashley came in instead of Punk or Mox, he would have been world champ.

MJF is the first world champion to come from a marginalized community and that's still a pretty big deal. But yeah, he's not a person of color.

But also still a big deal for Jewish representation Oh absolutely. I can't tell you how much it meant for little teenage me a few months after his bar mitzvah to see a big kickass dude named GOLDBERG be the hottest thing in WCW for a time. Especially when the other Jewish wrestlers at the time weren't as obvious or open about it (Macho Man Randy Savage) or the ones that were were complete jokes (Barry Horowitz).
I hope more kids from marginalized groups can have that moment soon with someone in AEW that I had with Goldberg in WCW. Representation matters so much.

I love AEW, but people can and should keep pressure up on it if they feel it could be doing more. WWE got flack for many years about their own predominately white main event scenes, and without that pressure, that may have never meaningfully changed. It continues to be something NXT could do better on, frankly, but Nakamura and Samoa Joe were exceptions to that issue, as was Big E way back. It's great that elsewhere on the card, it has been considerably more balanced, but it needs to reach the top, too. It's not like the talent isn't there, between Starks, Hobbs, Takeshita, Keith Lee, the Lucha Bros, etc, but the ball needs to keep rolling towards that, and pressure probably helps.
