IASTE members have been treated like crap for years. I'm in full support of a strike.

Totally support the strike, but hope it doesn’t last long, because I JUST started doing security gigs for productions a few weeks back.

Reading some of the stories from IATSE members, the conditions sound completely barbaric. Makes you wonder how much worse the non-union jobs are.

The IATSE strike does make me curious how much it'll affect wrestling shows.
(FTR, I support it.)

I guess the strike is good news for animation and international productions especially those made by non american english speaking countries. If the strike lasts a very long time, networks and film studios will have to rely on foreign acquisitions and dub non english movies with the voices of big name stars

Good on them fully in support of the strike since I heard about it last week.
Gonna be real fun times to see how long this lasts now.

So as someone who doesn't super closely follow Hollywood stuff, does this mean its gonna be like a few years back where there were no tv shows and movies being made for a little while?

If the strike actually goes forward? Most likely, yes. If the strike actually genuinely happens, it is going to seize up all active productions that use members of the union.

Yes any and everything that has not finished production will be shut down. The entire entertainment industry will stop.

Just to be clear...the strike's been approved, but there's still final negotiations going on. A deal can still be struck.

I actually kinda look forward to it as long as sports and pro wrestling continue. After the last strike and then the Covid shutdown, people seemed creatively reinvigorated.

I hope this is resolved. For the good of the people in the business and the people entertained by them.
We've had a lot as it is that's hurt the entertainment industry in the last 1.5 years.

What are studios going to do? Acquire, dub and reedit forign movies? What are networks going to do? Show more live sports and having to rely on forign shows (even Japanese Anime airing on US broadcast OTA TV?)

I wonder if the studios will start releasing films (and tv shows) that were completed but have never been released just to fill up the slots for the films and shows that were shut down.

The other good thing about the Covid lockdown last year was that I caught up on a lot of shows I stopped watching. It was good to catch up
