My prediction is WWE wins the demo narrowly and the viewership handily for the entirety of Smackdown, WWE wins the viewership for the head to head portion, AEW wins the demo for the head to head portion. Both sides proclaim victory. Looks like I was right except the demo may have been a tie for the entirety of the shows. I guess it's a victory for both sides. To me AEW should of won because they were on a better channel, Their owner hyped the hell out of it trying to get everyone to watch and opened with Punk.

Without college football, Wrestling was number 1 in cable so its a win for Pro Wrestling.

We still don’t know who actually won the head to head portion yet, either. But a very good result for AEW.

To be fair smack down is on at a much better time slot though

I’m sure AEW did since WWE’s current number includes the better 8-10 time slot without competition. Meltzer did note WWE did an additional 89K and 17K in the demo on broadcast TV (I guess certain markets it was on FOX instead).

Yeah, that wasn’t what I expected in terms of the demo but hey, props to both sides.

Wasn't the extra half hour of smackdown a commercial free 20 minutes match with Becky vs Sasha and a segment with Lesnar and Reigns?
They threw everything at it and AEW got the same demo number?
I'd say AEW will be delighted with that.

WWE excels in the 50+ and 12-17 age ranges (as compared to AEW).

AEW very likely won the head to head in 18-49 given Rampage usually starts strong and WWE programming tends to decline hour to hour (look at RAW's trends even when they put on something huge to main event). Not a guarantee but your priors would certainly lead you to think that.

I know this point has been made ad nauseam, but TV ratings are so funny. WWE claiming victory based on overall viewership. AEW claiming victory based on the demo, and the head-to-head. These numbers can so easily be manipulated and scrutinized to say pretty much anything you want them to.
At this point the Rampage Buy-In is up to 925k views and counting. I'm sure many, like me, did not feel like watching wrestling live on a Friday night, but damn sure caught it all later in the week. And I didn't stop at watching the Buy-In, I DVRed the show, too. Trying to equate live television ratings with popularity in 2021 is just laughable, and really is one of the more unique and bizarre aspects of the wrestling fandom these days.

You know, these food classifications are much like gender. It can full under multiple different labels and can even be contradictory but that ultimately doesn't mean much and they're still good. When we focus more on the labels we give things, we stop focusing on what they are, and we miss the bigger picture when we should just be getting all the tasty things into our mouths and - I think this metaphor got away from me. Sometimes, something that seems like a sandwich doesn't even really want to be called a sandwich no matter how much it might look like one. Sometimes, for the sake of just getting through this situation with its brother's in-laws, a meatball sub will accept being called a sandwich if only because there's no point in correcting them or trying to explain otherwise and it's not that important anyway no matter how unbelievably irritating it is and how much the word 'sandwich' becomes a misophonic hell siren.

Delighted AEW won in the direct head to head.
When only the total viewers for the overall show leaked I had the idea AEW had probably beat them in the 30 minutes slot but good to see it's confirmed.

Wow, good on AEW for winning that overrun battle. I do think that Tony should now dial back some of the competitive rhetoric a bit, though. He's gone 0-100MPH on it in the last week or two and I get it, but I kind of liked respectful but disciplined Tony a bit more.

AEW beat Smackdown in 18-49 head to head: We all know that Wade Keller is a shill for Tony Khan. Come talk to me when someone genuinely unbiased, like Ryan Satin, reports this. /sarcasm

I will say this does kind of put egg on that Mat Men podcast guy. He's usually pretty accurate but it's also clear he was getting fed WWE spin to put out there.
