I really wish he wouldn't do this. I know it's tongue in cheek for him but it breeds toxicity. It also is a bit of a stretch considering Smackdown will not be on their regular network and it will only be for a half-hour. I would say it goes without question that Punk opens again.

I do agree that it can lead to unneeded toxicity. Though ultimately, it’s harmless.

At least he didn't do that with the Jags next game 😅

Hope he hasn't already gotten a trophy made to celebrate them winning the ratings....

I’d hate to see would this forum would be like when WWF and WCW were at their peak in the late 90s.

Maybe if they weren't counter programming it wouldn't be an issue for him to speak on?

Maybe if they weren't counter programming it wouldn't be an issue for him to speak on? I highly doubt the 30 minutes is as intentional as one would think considering they are already losing half of their audience...could be wrong but sounds a bit silly. I would assume if they were really intending on actually going head to head they would want to smash them not doing it when 3 starters are out injured theoretically. Weird move all around by WWE because they really don't have much to gain by doing so. Either way the comparisons to TNA will continue while these tweets by Tony continue. All I can say is thankfully he isn't Dixie and can competently navigate the waters just fine.

They were never allowed to overrun on FOX. They are allowed on FS1. They never did an overrun on previous FS1 shows. Conveniently now they are doing one with an allowed overrun with another wrestling show on at 10PM which had been number one to top five on cable since it's premiered in demo.
I have an incredibly hard time thinking WWE isn't doing this to try and dig at AEW a little in a petty way. It's on FS1 though and while they could still possibly get a million viewers I have to wonder if they'll have a million viewers by the time the overrun happens in comparison to a live Rampage. I can honestly say it might be close and in demo Rampage might win. If they don't? WWE trolls will try and use it as ammo if Rampage doesn't beat em for a hot minute. What else is new? What annoys me about this is people saying "Worry about your own show Tony". He is. The other show is trying to push into his show so he responded with a tweet... don't see it as an issue or it being a big issue in the end. It's a tweet for the vocal minority of the IWC to scream about imo. Nothing more or less.
I don't see it as toxic. If WWE wants to try and run in to AEW then I think Khan not budging and saying "Cool. Can't wait to beat you" is pretty tame and what he's supposed to say towards competition like any other brand or team would. In the grand scheme this isn't gonna matter to WWE or AEW but it generates a little bit of a buzz. Win or lose. As others have said I really hate to see what this board would be like with the shots WWF and WCW took at each other. It's natural to be competitive and I get WWE hasn't actually had competition in 20 years... but unless Khan's doing Russo style shoots in ring I really don't see a big deal about it in the end.
And frankly if AEW beats what is the go home show to yet another Saudi Blood Money show? I can't say I'll be too upset about it... so to sum up I can get why some fans don't like this stuff or fear what it could breed but imo it's just a tongue and cheek tweet. Let's see how Smackdown's viewership holds with an overrun and how Rampage does live with Punk opening the show. Should be fun!

WWE tried to kill AEW immediately by counter programming with NXT. The same way they try and kill or hurt every other wrestling company.
I don't know why you have a problem with Tony Khan tweeting stuff because it breeds toxicity but WWE going out of their way to kill other companies whenever they can is "just business"
So I have no problem with Tony Khan sending a few digs via twitter now and then, WWE started it.

NXT was always on Wednesday’s, USA gave them a bit extra to move it from the Network to TV as they’d lost SD to Fox The reason people have issues with TK’s tweets are that he comes off as a fan more than as an owner, people would be digging out Vince for the same thing if he was actually running his Twitter account It’s pointless anyway as both shows are going to lose eyes against the MLB playoff game

The second Dynamite was announced for Wednesdays? The entire plan changed. WWE slapped it on USA and gave it a second hour. This was widely reported and FOX wasn't thrilled about the sudden loss of a second promised program. It was entirely to spite AEW and try to kill it out the gate. It's outright revisionist history to say it wasn't.

I'm cool with this on Twitter but I don't want to see it become a regular thing on programming.

Don't be doing this Tony, just stick to expanding and growing the company and not waste time and resources on petty things.
Another company guaranteed victory 11 years ago, seen what happened to them?

Eh, I’m sort of at the point where I’m mostly fine with it. Like, this isn’t even a new thing for businesses to do.
Like, Roman cut a promo in MSG about WWE being the kings of New York for no real kayfabe reason and all he needed to say was “AEW can F*** off from here” to remove the context.
I do find the whole move strange, though. Like, is it a sporting reason Smackdown’s moving because I can’t see it being any benefit to them.

Another company guaranteed victory 11 years ago, seen what happened to them? It's literally a singular tweet. And WWE are the ones expanding the show for zero reason with an allowed overrun. For the amount of people telling Tony to chill I think way more people are overreacting to a Tweet lol

MLB Playoffs will be preventing Smackdown from airing on FOX Ahh, that makes sense. I look forward to the thread where everyone panics about Smackdown having a massive drop when that's pretty much the most consistent thing to happen to it on FS1.
