Both companies got minor wins but I have to imagine that is not even close to the result WWE wanted here. They stacked Smackdown with some big stars and a big match in Becky/Sasha and got beat in the demo head-to-head. I imagine that doesn't sit well with them and I can't help but find it a little funny since they didn't even have to do all of this.

I guess it's a victory for both sides. To me AEW should of won because they were on a better channel, Their owner hyped the hell out of it trying to get everyone to watch and opened with Punk. To be fair smack down is on at a much better time slot though It also aired on local broadcast networks on New York and Chicago (WWOR/MyNetwork 9 in NY, not sure about Chicago), which helped their numbers significantly in both markets.

I'm glad AEW won the key demo head-to-head because firstly, they've been putting out a better product for months and it's good to see the recognition. But also because if this doesn't drive the WWE to get better, then nothing is going to. I know Smackdown was on a different channel and a Fox supershow would probably have won, but WWE still stacked that last half an hour. They did everything they could with what they had and it didn't work. Good on AEW.

Damn, anyone being honest has to say WWE has egg on their face here. They voluntarily chose to set up a ratings battle here and then loaded up the head to head slot and had no commercials. And then Tony Khan said they’d beat them, and went on to win the demo. An own goal by WWE.

I am really starting to wonder if AEW/TNT should try to book a few two hour Rampage specials that go from 7 to 9 or something of that ilk. Could be interesting. Maybe not this year, but end of 2022 if the audience continues to show signs of growth? Why not.

Right, if this was FOX vs. TNT it wouldn't be pretty and I think he knows that.

I’m admittedly a “WWE” guy and I’m glad AEW won. Smackdown was great on Friday and I want WWE to feel the heat to keep putting out banger shows. This is good for Wrestling. WWE shouldn’t run head to head with AEW going forward unless it’s on the channels their on already. FS1 isn’t going to do it.
Also maybe not compete for no reason? They brought the fight to AEW when they didn’t really have to.

None of this would be happening if WWE would stop wanting to monopolize the industry.
Hopefully that dream dies because of AEW.

Ruby Soho vs. The Bunny tied the Lesnar/Reigns segment. And people say The Bunny sucks. She stacks easily with Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar!

If Ruby Soho vs The Bunny was also commercial free they'd have probably even beat a Reigns Brock segment.
That is astonishing.

I mean this one is on WWE they chose this fight threw their heaviest hitters out there and accomplished nothing but embarressment.
Heads are gonna roll in WWE for this one and then they gotta do it again in like 2 weeks time but I suspect wont be any extra half hour being handed out for them.

Good, AEW gave Danielson vs Suzuki away for free online when they could've paywalled that behind a PPV and people would've shelled out for it. They deserve this big time!

They also made sure to note what was next on Rampage as a way to get people to stick around, and it seems to have worked out for them.

I find all of this so weird to be serious. Like, even if it's a minor fraction of a wider "war"...this is kind of a big deal. They stacked that half-hour of Smackdown, made it commercial-free on FS1...and basically lost in the demo. And for as much as Punk and Soho are big deals, just imagine the number if Khan just decided to swap Punk/Sydal with Danielson/Suzuki. It's sort of hard to wrap around.
Like, I'd rather a lot of this stuff not happen and WWE does its own thing and AEW do theirs and build from this but the rapid progress AEW's done in two years is mindboggling. All we can hope for as fans is WWE battling back by, well, doing a lot of things they should have done when there wasn't an AEW.
