It was Bryan landing in the "Family Guy Ground Pose" that sent me lmfao I think that may have beat the Daniel Bryan out of Danielson.

Now this was exquisite...simply divine! A masterclass in how to get the crowd eating out of the palm of your hands simply though strikes and chain wrestling.
However despite all of the brutal shots and such my favorite spot in the match was Suzuki taking the time out to make Referee Bryce look presentable. "Young man if you're going to call one of MY matches you have to look the part, bah if you entered the New Japan dojo looking like that we'd make you do squats until your calf muscles turn into a fine paste and then we'd make you eat that paste! You feel me?" "Yes Suzuki-San!"

Yeah nothing else to add really. The big elbow smash to Brian's face was scary because of his known concussion issues but I figure if he was genuinely hurt he wouldn't have sold it so hard, like the opposite of what happened with those horrible Dolph Ziggler headbutts that sent him into retirement initially.

If there's any silver lining to Shibata's career being cut short, it's that I think a lot more wrestlers got the message "Shoot headbutts are f***ing STUPID." Guys like Shingo, Goto, and Ishii do fantastic worked headbutts that don't involve brain trauma, just mimic that.

It was like watching Regal against Finlay.

That may be the best pure WRESTLING match Suzuki has had in quite some time. Suzuki has spent the past few years in several brawls that were classics but, I’m not sure he’s had a wrestling match like that since his last match with Tanahashi in 2018.

I was lucky enough to see Suzuki/Thatcher here in Dublin a couple years back and that’s about the closest I’ve seen to the match here but this one felt like a dramatic step up. And that match was great by the way.

That match was a great technical encounter and hard-hitting, and the crowd really enhanced it.

That match was a f***ing masterclass. A bout that featured lots of great wrestling, was intense as shit with neither man holding back, and a style & pacing that was more akin to what you would see from New Japan.
If you didn't catch this match, I strongly recommend going back and watching it. You're gonna be in for a real treat.

I will never get the appeal of pro wrestlers actually hitting each other as hard as they can.

Regardless of whether it's "as hard as he can", an elbow shot that cuts open your opponent's face is harder than it needs to be.
Brock wasn't hitting Orton as hard as he could, either.

It was harder but I think it was done fine. I understand the notion of being careful with Bryan but that spot doesn't happen unless they absolutely know what they're doing. A cut/bruise on the cheek is still far and away from a concussion shot if you know how to throw the blow right.

Great match, but I was a bit annoyed at the Si chants. Yeah it's Miami so I guess it makes sense.
They should have chanted Hai if they really wanted to annoy Suzuki though.

I’ll be honest I’m not a big fan of the teeing off on each other spot just because it sometimes gets really drawn out and I feel like AEW has been spamming that especially the past few weeks (I don’t know if that’s actually true or just how it seems) however that forearm shot that sent Bryan down was done great and I did like it at the end when it was rapid fire back and forth
I did really enjoy the match though (Obviously ha)

A cut/bruise on the cheek is still far and away from a concussion shot if you know how to throw the blow right. Oh, most likely. Did Suzuki know how do THAT shot safely? I haven't studied his career but I'm willing to accept if people say so (although we know so little about what effects things like that have on the brain that honestly it's really not possible to say any head shot is "safe"). But Bryan has been working stiff and being worked stiff (wait, that sounds weird) in every match. You keep rolling those dice and they're going to come up snake eyes sooner or later. People can do moves safely a hundred times and then mess up once and seriously hurt someone (unless they're Bret Hart), and the harder you're hitting, the more chance of that happening. It's more the mindset I object to than any one instance of it. But the celebration of instances of it reinforces the whole mindset that working stiff is "better" somehow. You can see it here and all over twitter's talking about the match. I'm of the mindset that Bryan is perfectly capable of having an amazing match without working stiff, and that if it turned out the match was slightly less good for not doing so, that's an infinitesimal price to pay compared to the higher possibility of serious injury. I'd rather Bryan have 4.5 star matches for the next five years than a handful of 5-star matches that shorten his remaining career a year or two.
