I do a lot a IT/Mechanical work at my job and every day I find little youtube videos from a million different sources to walkthrough the task. I, and many others, frequently use the dislike button and then comment when things are just flat out wrong in them. It's a great tool. Dislikes have saved my ass many times because I can see the video is a "bad one" and that following it's instructions will brick my equipment, or there's a massive safety issue they skip over and if you mirror the video's steps you won't be having a very good time.

Fine, its simple, get rid of the like counts as well then. Does that logic also apply to this very site? Because I've been here for like a dozen years, and no one has ever complained about it.

I’m like HMark and mostly watch YouTube through my phone or TV so I never notice the dislike bar, nor do I use it as a frame of reference of anything. The only time I notice it is when a controversy happens of some kind with dislikes.
Not to take away from anyone who does but I think I should just say that for me.

I saw why im opposed to this.
I wanted to see a video which made the news the last few days.
Every single video was either a reaction vid masquerading as the vid or those stupid knockoff news videos with a robot voice.
The dislike count let me know they were gonna be bollocks before I had to watch any of them.
Never found what I was looking for.

It really isn't though? Nothing's being censored, it's just them choosing to display something else on their own platform, and people are still free to voice their opinions in the comments or in other places, or by disliking the videos for that matter, they just can't see how many people have done the same. I have as much a right to know how many people don't like something just as much as I have a right to read the comments. Why though? FAN doesn't have a dislike button. Edit: Sorry I saw you don't want to talk about this super I posted. Just ignore be.

I know this may be a shocker, but positive reinforcement (the like button) is much better for people's mental health than when people are assholes to them for no real reason.

I know this may be a shocker, but positive reinforcement (the like button) is much better for people's mental health than when people are assholes to them for no real reason. Many social media platforms still don’t have what should standard procedures for the mental well being of users. I’m as anti-censorship as anyone you’d likely ever meet, but surely apps like Facebook and Twitter can consider adding more mods, monitor and limit what people can put in their profiles it shouldn’t be so absurdly easy to put anything offensive or just dumb in a display name or a post on a video. The term “safe space” doesn’t always have to mean that you’re overprotecting the consumers, rather I feel it’s a matter of making the platforms as enjoyable as possible. And right now, it feels like a chore to browse through some of these places because they’re so counterproductive to healthy discussions. It’s to prevent ordinary people from throwing up their hands and going “this place sucks, I’m out”.

Brands want protection against criticism and negativity, pretending it's about 'the people' is how you sell it. Perception is everything - if you can limit replies to only people you like on Twitter or limit negativity through hiding only dislikes on YouTube, you can create a false perception on how well something is being received. It has some positives but the negatives of giving more power to the already powerful is just not worth it IMO.

I'm calling total bullshit on this.
Because lets be honest here this has sweet f*** all to do protecting small creators content creators (when many of them have publicly stated that this is a terrible idea and were ignored completely ) and is pretty much them doing the bidding of advertisers and other corporations don't like being publicly criticized.

I remember when I got mine... Was I ever that young or lucky Highest like count I ever got was in the 70s. I've peaked. My highest was around the 50-55 mark. It was a news rumor "TNA makes offer to CM Punk" and I posted a GIF of Punk exiting into the crowd.

Pretty sure mine was for this entry in a Seth Rollins Photoshop thread: Though it might have been this one:

I mean, I just watched a Youtube video where "an amazing fact you may not know" was, you have cuticles. It had 80K likes. There's no accounting for taste, especially online.

My highest like count was just a picture of Arn Anderson in a thread about WWE High school pictures.
