I'm glad we all agree that it is.

In the words of Gorilla Monsoon, who cares.
Is Ghostbusters II a New Years movie? Who cares.

In the same sense that Cowboy Bebop is a Halloween movie, sure.

The movie could literally take place at any time of the year and still function fine so it is tangentially at best.

It’s a Christmas-decorated movie at least

It's a great action flick that uses Christmas as a plot device.

It absolutely is. And so is Trading Places. I'd say it's more of a New Year's movie.

It’s a Christmas movie because I personally like to enjoy it each Christmas, so Bruce Willis can just sit there and cope with it.

No.
My argument has always been it’s a film that happens to be set at Christmas rather than a Christmas film. Other than changing a few minor things, they could have set it with him coming home to meet his family for the Fourth of July and no major plot points would be any different. I see it this way. Would it feel strange watching something like The Santa Clause on a hot summer night? Yes. Would it feel strange watching Die Hard on a hot summer night? No.
Although admittedly, I do watch it most Christmases.

It's as much a Christmas movie as Batman Returns is. Which is to say, it's a movie set during Christmas and can be enjoyed during Christmas, but can also be watched any other time of year and still be just as fun.

Of course it is a christmas movie.
About the argument that "it just takes place at Christmas but it is not a christmas movie": So do Home Alone, Christmas Vacation, Jingle all the Way and Gremlins. They also do not feature the real Santa Clause but just take place on Xmas. Since the movies are comedies people say that they are Xmas movies. Are only comedies allowed to be christmasmovies? Actionmovies and horrormovies can not be Xmas movies? I do not get it! People who claim otherwise are probably the same people who say that Halloween 3 is not a Halloween movie because Michael Myers is not in the movie (although Halloween 3 deals more with the holiday as the other Halloweenmovies).
Die Hard 1 & 2; Jaws the Revenge, Batman Returns, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Lethal Weapon, Black Christmas, Silent Night Deadly Night etc. are Christmas movies!

the soundtrack to Die Hard contains the following; Christmas in Hollis - RUN D.M.C Winter Wonderland Let it snow ( twice, two different versions of it) Jingle Bells
and although its not a Christmas song Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 is in it as well and that just (to me) screams Christmas.

The movie could literally take place at any time of the year and still function fine so it is tangentially at best. What other time of year would have that many office workers in the building after hours? Not many. It has to be a Christmas party.

I’ve always said no, not to be different but because it’s not what I’d call a Christmas movie. To me that’s something like Elf, It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol etc.
