Way too long. Probably could have used more preplanning before the match, ala Randy Savage. Too much stalling and resting to draw it out to a full hour. I got a little bored by the end to be honest. And please, give Danielson a clean loss, there is no shame in it.
Maybe it just was not my night.

Incredibly impressive and very well crafted, but maybe not my type of match. Kingston/Danielson is a 10/10 for me, this is more 8/10

A really well-crafted story. For all intents and purposes, Danielson just beat the shit out of Hangman for a solid hour, save for a few offensive flourishes. It really made both guys look great. Bryan as the overbearing technical wizard, who can back up his conceited attitude, and Page as the never-say-die babyface. It looked like Page finally had Bryan beaten there at the end, but there’s that seed of doubt. If not for the time expiration, would Hangman have gotten the pin fall victory? Would Danielson be able to roll the shoulder to stay alive? We’ll never know, and I personally think that is a perfect ending.
Bryan’s heel run these past few weeks has just been superb. This man is arguably the biggest babyface of the last decade, and turned the entire fan base against him in one single promo. It’s weird that when he debuted in NXT, he was pegged as being boring or uncharismatic and he’s since proven how f***ing good he is. Top to bottom.

I wanna gush again about how great it was that by the end the generally heel Taz was like "CMON KID YOU GOTTA PIN HIM!!!"

Meltzer & Alvarez glowed about it. Talked about how it didn’t feel like an hour. Alvarez talked about the multi-phase structure of it. Meltzer’s only negative was the commercial breaks. Alvarez noted that although the crowd smattered boo’s when knowing time was almost up (and it would almost certainly be going to a draw) they had them absolutely enthralled in the peak of the match thinking it could end. They brought up the two following matches struggled for heat because of the first hour but MJF/Martin brought them back up. I kinda liked the Wardlow squash match being the cooldown after the long 60-minute contest, and it allowed the fans to heat up a bit for Shida/Serena.

I enjoyed the match but probably shouldn’t have watched it when I was tired! Also Hangman showed he can beat Bryan so I’m not sold on having to wait for a rematch but we’ll see.

Hangman/Danielson obviously the main part of making this match as good as it was, but I thought commentary was fantastic and so was the crowd, they were invested for the whole 60 mins.

And please, give Danielson a clean loss, there is no shame in it. Maybe it just was not my night. Damn, maybe it was the commercial breaks happening at the right times (e.g. like when Hangman was on the floor selling his head getting cut), but I felt the exact opposite: a lot of 60 minute matches have slowdown periods, but this one went hard and heavy for the vast majority of its time, which made it fly by, and I went into the match having had it spoiled that it went the full hour. I do want to emphasize what others have been saying already, and repeat something I've said before: I cannot tell you how badly I missed having Bryan Danielson around. He had plenty of great moments in his WWE run, no doubt about it, and there were times he achieved full on greatness there, but now we're getting the American @#$%ing Dragon, and it's as if he never left the indies and he's still 25 years old or something, because holy shit, the guy went sixty minutes but you could just tell he could go another full hour if he wanted to, the man is an absolute freak of nature and a master in-ring storyteller. And full credit to Hangman; he played his role amazingly well, to the point that it's going to be nearly impossible to imagine him ever turning heel during his AEW career. Ending it on him having the match won but just running out of time to prove he can beat the almighty Dragon leaves us something to look forward to in the hopefully not-too-distant future. I've had multiple slower paced 60 minute matches that I've enjoyed, Joe vs. Punk II being high on that list, but matches like this and Okada/Omega II are just another gear in terms of intensity that very few wrestlers can maintain for an hour. There is zero shame in not being able to do that, because, I repeat, Bryan Danielson, Kenny Omega, and Kazuchika Okada are all freaks of nature. I'll say it 'til I'm blue in the face: I really want a heel vs. heel faction war between the Pinnacle and Team Taz, with Team Taz playing slightly more babyface.

5 stars on the ever-dynamic-Meltzer-scale seems “accurate”. Although.. This does raise questions; Is Sheamus the GOAT??

So when is AmDrag eating that L? I know AEW isn't gonna go down the "heel that never loses" folly, but I really want to see him get humbled.

I hated it. Bryan should of lost clean as a sheet at the 53 Min mark. Doing this for Bryan/Omega was fine, but twice in a few months, especially for Hangman’s first title defense, hell nah

I have gone back and forth on this. Where I am now is that they rushed it to have the marquee match. Hangman should have had one or two title defenses first.

Superb match. The draw worked because that's how Bryan was established: by taking Omega to a thirty minute draw. Bryan is established as a cardio freak who is almost impossible to get rid of in a match. Hangman survived an hour with that freak and the match ended with him having the upper hand.
But AEW was also smart in not letting Hangman actually go for the pin, a company like WWE would have probably had Hangman go for the pin and have time run out before the 3 count happened, so there will always be a seed of doubt in peoples minds whether even THAT would have finished Bryan off.

Absolutely a masterpiece. I thought it was pretty dry for the first half until I realised what they were doing and leaned in and it was a roller coaster from there. Supplanted Rosa/Britt for my MOTY.

Even MJF doesn't want that smoke with HOOK. Also, the "18 seconds" thing just makes me realize that I wish Sheamus were in better shape health-wise. Not that AEW is short on big brawlers who get their shit in, but for a while at least, Sheamus was the best big man brawler in the WWE. I liked the match because I thought it told a really good story. Bryan Danielson is a technical wizard, a sadist, the American Suzuki, in a way. But the Cowboy held his own and came ready for him. He went for his leg, Danielson went for his shoulder. Hangman is the bigger athlete, but not once did they try any of the tired "bigger man/smaller man" tropes. Bryan looked like a heel, but unlike most smaller heels, he didn't look like a chickenshit heel. He looked like a final boss in a video game who doesn't NEED size, because his stats are so lopsided otherwise. It was just a classic story, but a fresh one, all at the same time.
