89. Brave Story: New Traveler A boy playing his PSP is suddenly transported to a new world where he meets a catgirl. Yeah. Should be renamed 'Bland Story'. Another solid game with nothing that stands out about it. Graphics were nice.

88. Koudelka Okay, this is a weird game. First of all, it's set in Wales. Secondly, it kind of comes across as a JRPG mixed with survival horror. By survival horror, I mean that it has a dark atmosphere and fixed camera angles. The battle system is tactical-esque, as in you move your characters around a grid. I remember the sound in this game being kind of f***ed up. I think the character's voices would end abruptly, or something like that. Also, this is considered the predecessor to the Shadow Hearts games, I believe. Anyway, it's a decent game. I'd check it out just because of how odd it is.

Yeah Koudelka is a prequel to Shadow Hearts, the main character even appears in SH and is the mother to one of the party members. I've never been able to get a copy, but I love the Shadow Hearts games (well, the first two).

90. Final Fantasy So, obviously, this is an old fashioned game, but for what it is, I actually had fun with it. A lot better than II and III, in my opinion. And, of course, the music is amazing. Definitely a solid game. I missed this game when it first came out but started playing it quite a bit when I got my NES Classic. It lacks in comparison to later games, but I can definitely see why it was a franchise starter.

87. Fate/Extra This is a dungeon crawler with a rock, paper, scissors style of combat. You have to remember which attacks your enemy will use and then counter accordingly. It's okay but it gets old. I did enjoy it a lot more the second time I played it, but it still didn't keep my interest too long. It has some visual novel elements, too, which were kind of cool.

86. Blue Dragon The first of three Mistwalker games on my list. Blue Dragon is the most JRPG to ever JRPG. This is the last of the 'okay' JRPGs on my list before we move on to the 'good' ones. However, this game has one stand out feature: the boss theme. It's absolutely amazing in an awful way. Check it out.

However, this game has one stand out feature: the boss theme. It's absolutely amazing in an awful way. Check it out. Blue Dragon was Microsoft's effort to reach out to JRPG fans but also the Japanese demographic, given that the Xbox has the "Small in Japan" infamy stuck to it. It had several key people in the industry with it as well as a vaunted studio in Mistwalker, and to its credit, Blue Dragon would go on to have two sequels on the Nintendo DS, a turn-based strategy game and a real time battle RPG. But I don't think Blue Dragon was successful (or Lost Odyssey, another attempt) in its end goal. I actually love Blue Dragon for what it is, and feel like it represented Microsoft when they were at their peak "throwing IPs at the wall" phase. It really should benefit from being ported to the Nintendo Switch, but I don't know the legal process given all of the parties who own the property.

85. Child of Light Child of Light is a beautiful looking game with a great combat system. From what I can recall, the combat was similar to Grandia II's, which is definitely a good thing. I didn't get too far into the game. This might sound petty, but I quit the game because the constant rhyming drove me nuts. It just came off as pretentious and forced. But this is a game I definitely need to give a second chance to one day. In retrospect, this might be ranked too low. But... the rhyming.

84. World of Final Fantasy This game was full of charm, cuteness and nostalgia. I loved how the mirages you collected would stack on your protagonists' heads. Speaking of the protagonists, I was expecting them to be boring and generic but they were actually pretty humorous. Hearing a remix of Hunter's Chance was hype. As an FF fan, I thought this game was pretty good.

83. Vagrant Story This placement might be a bit controversial, as I know a lot of people love this game. I liked it but I found walking around the dungeon(s?) with no music to be a bit tedious. I did like the battle system where you can target the enemies' weak points. And the graphics are amazing for the time. But it just wasn't enough to hold my interest for very long.

82. Wild Arms 3 Unfortunately, this is the only Wild Arms game I've played. Thankfully, it's pretty good. The graphics are nice, the battle system is solid as are the characters. I guess my only complaints would be that the dungeons are a little bland, and I didn't like the whole scan the world map to find towns thing. My favourite thing about this game, though, was every time you loaded your save, an anime opening would play, and every time you quit, an ending would play. So it was like you'd just watched an anime episode. That was really cool.

81. Trials of Mana This game was just fun. It had nice, colourful graphics, and an enjoyable combat system. It was cool how you could choose three characters (out of six) to go on your journey, giving the game replay value (I'll probably play it again, one day).

80. Tales of Symphonia The second Tales of game I played. The battle system was pretty fun and I liked the graphics. I guess the characters were a little bland, and the story was pretty generic. A middle of the road JRPG, I guess, but it was fun.

A middle of the road JRPG, I guess, but it was fun. So... I ended up getting this game because I read about it in Wired Magazine (weird place to get video game recommendations from) and wanted to give it the college try, but the problem was I didn't have my own GameCube and because my family was weird (they were very insular about the world, and as someone with autism who already struggled with a slower mental development that made processing reality hard in the best of times), the various elements throughout the game made me feel uncomfortable with showing off because they assumed all video games involved eating pellets or jumping on turtles. You could imagine the anger my mother had when I was able to get GTA III running on a computer. Years later, I got the PS3 port and gave it another go but... I just couldn't, only this time, it was because the game annoyed me. I've played two games in the Tales series (this and Phantasia), and neither just did it for me. I actually went pretty far in Phantasia, but I think it's safe to say that the franchise wasn't my bag.

I've never got on with the Tales series. The real-time combat just never feels "right" to me.

The Tales of games are all pretty similar, even though they're all set in different worlds like FF. Unlike FF, the gameplay mechanics aren't wildly different. It's a generic series but there might be one you'd like.

I've never got on with the Tales series. The real-time combat just never feels "right" to me. I think Xillia had the best combat. Most people say Graces F, I believe, but I haven't got too far into it.

79. Final Fantasy XIII-2 I know a lot of people like this game more than the first, but for me, the original (and LR) edges it out. For one, there are fewer characters (just the two) and they're both dull as dirt. I mean, say what you want about the original's cast but they were anything but boring. The story is somehow even more confusing. And there's no summons! It does have some good stuff going for it. Monster catching is always fun in any game. Great music. And the combat is fun. The game is also way more open than the first. I don't know. I can see why people would prefer this one but it's not for me. But none of the XIII games are great, so who cares?
