Yes, I'm gonna rank every JRPG I've ever played (well, not literally every) from worst to best, because I'm insane. I collect them, so I thought I might as well do something with them other than play them. I know there are quite a few JRPG fans on here, so I hope you enjoy this! Obviously, this is a list based on my opinion, and I'll be ranking them based on how much I enjoy them. Hopefully, you find some hidden gems. Anyway, I hope you look forward to seeing where I rank the likes of Chrono Trigger Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy XIII. Starting with the worst JRPG I've ever played! 100. Unlimited Saga Look at that beautiful cover. How can this game be bad with a cover like that? I fell for it, too. We all did. So with a lot of these games, I'm gonna forget a few things about them, as I played some of them a long time ago. From what I remember, this game's mechanics are incredibly cryptic. It's very confusing even as an adult. The world map is basically just like a chessboard where you move your character (piece) around. You can't walk around towns or anything. The game has several playable characters, and you can go through each of their stories, which is a cool idea. But the game isn't good, so it doesn't matter. This game is the definition of don't judge a book by its cover. Maybe there are worse games, but I'll never forget the disappointment.

99. Hyper Dimension Neptunia The concept of this game was interesting—video game consoles as anime girls. Unfortunately, the game just wasn't very good. It did have a cool feature where you could create your own attack by using a picture from your PlayStation hard drive. That's about where the positives ends, though. The sequel was better, at least (though, they got rid of the custom attack).

98. Final Fantasy III Man, this game annoyed the crap out of me. I could never enjoy it because they'd always throw something annoying at me. There's a lack of save points, there's that part where your whole party has mini cast on them, phoenix downs were either insanely rare or you just couldn't buy them, etc. The only thing I liked about it was the music. Eternal Wind is, like, the top three best FF world map themes. Worst FF ever, in my opinion.

Looking forward to it. I love me some JRPGs, though don't know if I've played that many.

And then it came out.

97. Tales of Zestiria Yeah, seems like this is everyone's most hated Tales game. I mostly just remember it being boring. I loved Xillia and the sequel, and even Berseria (which won't be ranked because I'm currently playing it). There was actually a big controversy over one of the playable characters being removed from the party halfway through the game, I believe, but I didn't get that far into it. Great battle theme, though.

96. Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness What a disappointment. I love the Star Ocean games (well, the two I've played), but this one just sucked! Honestly, I think the only reason I played it so long was just because it was a Star Ocean game. The battle system was just a button masher. To be fair, it was like that in Last Hope, too, but that one was flashy, at least. I remember it taking forever to learn any new attacks. One cool thing, though, was that battles included every single one of your party members (7?) at the same time. The characters were improved over The Last Hope's (the worst cast of all time), but still nothing special. Hopefully, The Divine Force will be much better.

95. Final Fantasy II FFII is a solid RPG. Problem is I'm not a fan of the progression system. It seemed interesting, but it's just not as satisfying as good-old-fashioned levelling up. Plus, it seemed kind of random, like a stat would go up for no apparent reason.

94..hack//INFECTION Another game with a really cool concept. You play as someone who is playing an MMO. So a game within a game, basically. Unfortunately, I found the battle system to be quite boring, so I never got too far into it. Shame.

There were also stat DECREASES if you used a certain skill more than another, trap rooms, and dungeons you could only go into once, so all the treasure had to be found in that one trip. I played the Origins version of II several years ago, and still wasn't a fan of it.

93. Hyper Dimension Neptunia mk2 So even though I didn't think the first game was that good, I liked the concept so much I decided to buy the sequel, and it was a much better game. Still nothing special, and I was gutted they took out the custom attack. But definitely an improvement.

92. Evolution: The World of Sacred Device Not much to say about this one. It has charm and cute graphics. It's the most solid JRPG to ever solid. Next.

I absolutely adore these games but don't quite know what kind of RPGs they are considered.

91. Legend of Legaia 2 Not a bad game, just a little generic. It does have a cool combat system where you can string together combos. I enjoyed the first game more, though (spoiler!).

Plus, it seemed kind of random, like a stat would go up for no apparent reason. Whenever people bring up "what was the worst Final Fantasy (not counting spin-offs)", I feel like this seems to be a guaranteed #1 or #2 based entirely on that weird-ass leveling up system. The mechanisms put in place to develop stats and allow you to get stronger, or at least have a fighting chance, were cryptic and borked even in the more user-friendly ports (I played the GBA version), and that isn't even talking about the sadistic NES version, where Ultima was actually the weakest spell in the game by accident, and rather than fix it, the programmer who designed Ultima wanted players to learn the hard way that life sucks. It's a shame, too, because while Final Fantasy has practically no story to speak of thanks to it literally being lifted from Western pen-and-paper RPG rulebooks (thus allowing it to be melded into whatever based on revisions), this was one of the first JRPGs that had characters, an overarching story arc, and lingering consequences as you played throughout your adventure. Whereas Garland was just garden variety evil, the Emperor of Palamecia was beyond recognition, even taking over hell itself after dying. And not even his "pure" form in the Dawn of Souls mode from the GBA was any better, either. But I think because of a combination of that system and also not being so sure with themselves and their narrative devices, SquareSoft went back to a more generic templace for Final Fantasy III... itself another can of worms.

90. Final Fantasy So, obviously, this is an old fashioned game, but for what it is, I actually had fun with it. A lot better than II and III, in my opinion. And, of course, the music is amazing. Definitely a solid game.
