40. Final Fantasy XII Man, do I have a love/hate relationship with this game. This was the first FF game I was disappointed with. It didn't have an epic story, it didn't have interesting and fun characters, no turn-based combat. Everything was wrong. Obviously, I've come around to it a lot more now. The Zodiac version definitely fixed a lot when it came to the gameplay. The world is beautiful and fun to explore. I love the loop of killing monsters, selling loot, buying weapons, magic, etc. There's so much content in this game. There are 13 summons! And most of them are optional. But, yeah, I'll never get over the disappointment when it comes to the characters (besides Balthier) and story.

39. Final Fantasy XIII XII and XIII are pretty interchangeable, for me. Depends what mood I'm in. When it comes to characters, I guess it's pick your poison. Do you prefer annoying characters that have actual development, or boring characters that have nothing to do with anything? I do love Sazh, and I like Lightning. The story in both games is bad. I guess XIII's is worse because of all the confusing terms. XIII is linear, XII is more open. I prefer XIII's music. But then we come to the battle system. It's either this, X, or VIIR for best FF battle system, I think. It takes a while to get going, but once you're desperately switching paradigms, staggering the enemy, launching them, juggling them, it's just so good. It's a good thing this game is, like, 50% battles (the other 50% is walking in a straight line). So, yeah, I don't dislike this game as much as most people. But I think it's just good.

38. Rogue Galaxy The first time I played this game, I didn't like it that much. No idea why. Thankfully, I gave it a second chance and now I love it. It has problems, like combat coming down to just spamming special moves over and over, And the last boss is one of the worst I've ever seen (the reason I've never completed it). I love the diverse cast. Any game with a bunch of unique characters always gets points from me. Like most Level-5 games, there's so much to do and collect. There's a Pokemon mini-game where you collect bugs to fight each other. You can build a factory to make new weapons and armour (a bit confusing at first, but I got the hang of it). You have to collect items to gain new abilities. There's multiple costumes, etc, etc, etc. This game is just a blast to play.

37. Star Ocean: The Last Hope Oh, look, it's the game with the absolute worst cast of characters in any JRPG ever!! It's a good thing the gameplay's so good. I'd say this game is Rogue Galaxy with a better battle system. And it all comes down to that battle system. Has to be the top 5 best, for me. Yeah, you're pretty much just mashing buttons but, man, does it look good. You command your own spaceship which you can use to travel to different planets. The item creation is a lot of fun, too, and Welch is about the only char I can stand. So if you can stomach the horrendous characters, this is a really fun game.

36. Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core My first PSP game and the graphics blew my mind. Zack was a fun protagonist. And how can you not like someone called Genesis Rhapsodos? Combat was also fun and extremely challenging on hard. The DMW was weird, and I still don't fully understand how it works, but it was always hype when those reels started spinning. I suppose the game was a little repetitive, but it was also really addicting. Shame it doesn't look likely it'll get put on modern consoles.

35. Pokemon X and Y I feel like X and Y freshened up the Pokemon games which had become a bit stale, for me. The new 3D graphics kind of blew my mind and were nice to see. Fairy type was a nice addition and made me actually want to catch poison types. Mega evolutions were another cool addition. I really liked the music, too (the Power Plant theme <3). I guess Greninja's the standout new Pokemon. My only real complaint would be the pacing. I think it was the stretch between the first gym and the second one that was way too long, and then they throw gym after gym at you.

34. Dragon Quest IX This might be a surprise that I've ranked IX above VIII, but I just think this game is a bit more fun. I loved creating my own characters and dressing them up in the dumbest looking outfits. Of course, the problem with creating your own characters is that they have no personality. Graphics were nice for a DS game, too.

33. The World Ends with You Good memories of this game. Great battle system where you use the stylus to perform attacks, amazing soundtrack, and the story and characters were a lot of fun. No real negatives with this. Just an all-around great game.

32. Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth This game was kind of reminded me of Persona but with Digimon. You travel through randomly generated dungeons battling and collecting them. Collecting Digimon, digivolving them, levelling them up is addicting. I even went for the plat (and failed). Great game. Unfortunately, I haven't played the sequel, yet.

If you do play the second game just know it's not really a squeal, gameplay wise it's just Cybersleuth with a few upgrades, changes, and a few new things (Mainly new Digimon but there is another battle mode added too). Storywise it takes place at the same time as Cybersleuth, it's just a sidestory with a few new characters but a lot of the time you are talking to characters from the first game and most missions are going on around the ones from Cybersleuth giving you a different point of view to the events of the first game. In other words it's best played not long a play through of the first

31. Final Fantasy XV Man, have I come around on this game. When I first played it, I thought it was okay. But then I played the Royal Edition which improved the game so much. I guess I'll get the bad stuff out of the way. The story is an absolute mess. The combat, while fun at times, is pretty bad. I mean, the camera is so awful you can't tell what's going on. You're constantly spamming potions to stay alive, and there's no real strategy. The sidequests are awful. Now for the good. I really like the characters; the four bros' banter is great, and they have a nice relationship with each other. Ardyn is the best FF villain since Kuja. The combat is technically bad, but it looks great, and pulling off combos with your bros is cool. The summons, while weird in how they operate, look amazing, and when the music changes and the atmosphere darkens... it's just so hype. The ending is beautiful. The music is incredible. The graphics are outstanding. Driving around in the car listening to FF soundtracks is so good. I'm not gonna go through all the Royal Edition changes, because I'll be here forever, but I loved most of them (especially the Chapter 13 changes). Yeah, this game was disappointing in ways, but I've come around to it. If you didn't like the original, maybe give the Royal edition a shot.

30. Xenoblade Chronicles The first Wii RPG on my list (though, there's only, like, two). I love the battle system; it requires quite a bit of strategy and it keeps you on your toes. The world is huge and fun to explore. The music is excellent (One Who Gets In Our Way <3). The characters are great and I love that they have English accents. I guess the only "negative" thing I can say about it is that it didn't keep my interest long enough to actually complete it. But I still put a good amount of hours into it.

The Zodiac Age does so much to make FF12 a lot more playable than the original. Also I love the lore of Ivalice and the Espers of both the Scions of Light and Darkness. Especially with how much it was an influence on FF14, with the names of the Ascians taken from the Scion of Light counterparts to the Scions of Darkness (the summons in FF12).

48. Legend of Legaia In this game, you control three martial artists, and the battle system requires that you select directions so you can string together combos. String together the right combos and you'll discover new special attacks, which was always hype. The game also had summons, though they weren't exactly as spectacular looking as the ones in FF, but still cool, nevertheless. This was a great game, but, unfortunately, it's very expensive now. I sold it a long time ago like a dummy. But if you have cash to burn, then you should give it a shot. I remember this game fondly, mostly due to the battle system. Sequel on the other hand felt mediocre. Like more or less similar to the first game, but it just was a lot less flashy.

Man I've had Xenoblade Chronicles sitting in my shelf still unplayed for like two years. Maybe I should really do something about that.

29. Valkyria Chronicles I remember this being one of the first must-own PS3 exclusives back in the day. But, yeah, see my VCII summary. I guess the reasons I have it higher than II is that the story was better, and it also had Vyse and Aika (bang bang, baby) from Skies of Arcadia. Something I forgot to mention was the art style of the series. I'll just post a screenshot:

28. Bravely Default I guess the spiritual successor to FFV, and this game is just as fun with its variety of jobs. The battle system is interesting with its default and bravery mechanics. The game is quite challenging, too, with constant grinding needed. The fact that you could turn off random encounters right from the start was so convenient, and it was a much better idea than taking away random battles altogether like they did in the sequel, in my opinion. Unfortunately, there's the infamous part of the game where you have to fight the same bosses about a million times, which ruined the game for me. I think I heard that they're actually optional, though, but I'm not sure about that. But, anyway, I quit the game at that point. Oh, and I loved Ringabel and Edea.

What a beauty that game can be even on the Wii. First time seeing the rain of shooting stars in Eryth Sea by night, listening to the music - that's an all time great gaming moment for me.
