Listened to the Grapsody Podcast (Fightful) where they had Shawn Dean on there talking about this this morning. If you want a summary of what he said. - He's the Extra Coordinator of AEW. He helps extras and talent try to get booked. Finds people through social media, peers and etc and tries to get them working in AEW. Whether they get certain matches, wins, length of matches and such isn't up to him but he at least tries to get people into the company. He's also a performer but that's his job title. He's also big on community outreach. Some of the people he scouted later went to WWE tryouts. Lee Moriarty and Kiera Hogan are from his help. - He agrees Tony shouldn't have said that and that Tony f***ed up. Said he understands how it comes across. Also says Swole is a hell of an athlete and that she was coming into her own. - Can't put on a timeframe on how long it'll take change to happen but said it'll happen. - He spoke to Swole before and after that interview and tweet and they're fine. He doesn't want to diminish anything she said because it's her experience and he's seen her experience some of the things she's talked about. - Him speaking on this is basically him saying "hey I'm here trying to make the change you wanna see" because he believes there needs to be a change. - Agrees with that fans needs a bit of "roadmap" in that certain black stars are "up next" in a way similar to Omega, Hangman, Bryan, MJF and such were told by the presentation. By that they got the "hey this person's next up forreal look at what they're doing" thing if that makes any sense. - He mentioned Hobbs used in storylines but then not and said he gets that there needs to be more consistency when using him. - Wants Dark to be more storyline based in regards to this stuff. - Henry's a mentor of his and Henry told him that before he became world champion he had only won 5 matches in a year. Said it can happen out of nowhere. When your number's called, you better be ready. - He thinks things will happen this year for Jade, Ricky, Hobbs, Dante and Darrius. - Said he doesn't know what Tony's next plan of action is after this but he thinks it'll be something. - Will from Grapsody said he talked to Tony before and after the tweet. Said he's told him twice in the past before this that the invitation's open for him to come on. Said he knows Tony's watching and said it's still open. - Shawn said this stuff needs to be talked about and said. - Said that when Tony made that tweet he thinks it came from a place of him not wording it correctly and not saying what he really felt. Said he could have done it better. - Said that he thinks Tony will make right on what he did wrong. - Doesn't want black people to give up on AEW and wants us to keep watching the product. Says he thinks we'll be pleased in how things will turn out within the next year. Basically... Shawn Dean is working from the inside for change similarly to New Day and Mark Henry. New Day's been about working from the inside to change the company (as they've stated in multiple interviews when it comes to how black wrestlers have been represented for decades). Mark Henry scouts those he believes can bring change. Shawn knows they need change, he knows people wanna see change so he's doing what he can to try to make that change happen. He's not saying there's no issue or there's no problems, he's just trying to work within the confines of the company for change as there's multiple avenues that can bring change. That's just the avenue he works. The comments about the black community being pleased I'm guessing will revolve around the wrestlers mentioned being seasoned midcarders which is pretty much what I and others have been saying they'd be for 1-2 years before they're moved up because they started late. We'll probably see a good amount of them get a belt but as world champion unless it's Jade? I'm not seeing it. Still, that's about what I've been saying as to how they'll do this. Just to add a plug here I listen to Grapsody every week, one of the best pods out there. For obvious reasons, today's Grapsody was especially important, and I'm glad they had Shawn Dean on for this.

Lio's spoken to Tony and Megah and stated they'll listen to him and others from the African American perspective.
We needed this shit. Let's see what'll happen. Thank you Swole, Lio, Shawn and others.
Let's see what happens this year.
I'm honestly not going to do any of those "hey listen there's been a problem with-" talks about AEW anymore after all this stuff's happened. Wish it didn't come to this but alas it did. Now we'll see if our words from back then will actually bring forth change.

I personally don’t think either side comes out looking good in all of this. I think it’s pretty clear that a conversation was had behind closed doors, with the impression left that Swole’s departure from the company was amicable, but she still dropped a public grenade that cast some very serious aspersions on the company. From everything that’s come out since, I don’t think that grenade was thrown with entirely good intentions. But, Tony Khan is the owner of a multi-million dollar company that employs hundreds of people. Former employees are going to criticize the company they used to work for. It happens every day in every walk of life. And, in this instance, there’s some merit to the criticism. It’s great that TK is such an involved and approachable owner in a lot of ways, but he’s still the owner. There was absolutely no reason to come out and publicly drag a former employee through the mud like he did. She’s the disgruntled former employee who just lost her job, he’s the billionaire owner of the company. It just comes across as so petty to engage like he did. He’s in for a rude awakening if he thinks that everyone who ever walks in the door to work for AEW is going to think it’s the greatest company in the world and never have a negative thing to say about it. Amidst all of the commentary that’s gone on around this I agree with the sentiments of two people most. 1) Like Hobbs said, if you have a problem pick up the phone. These are not disputes that need to be held publicly, because the message gets lost when the perception is that it’s only being done for publicity. 2) Like Lio said, TK really needs to apologize and acknowledge that he mishandled this situation. If I were working for AEW right now I would be very uncomfortable with the fact that the owner of the company took a potshot at a former coworker’s wrestling ability just because she stated issues and criticisms she had while working there. 10/10. I don't feel like the former employee had good intentions in saying what they said...but the criticisms are valid. Comparing to WWE is weird to me, because it has seemed to me like they employee certain people from certain countries just to say they have a wrestler from that area. There doesn't seem to be any good will behind anything they do. They seem to have axactly ONE person from everywhere, and have for a long time. Well it was her daughter who went back to watching WWE according to big swole so that’s why WWEwas mentioned. You make it sound like she blew the lid on stuff that up to this point was completely unknown and everything was going fine and there were no issues known of. What she said wasn’t in my opinion about having bad intentions towards AEW. All she did was put some more details of what we already know and is obvious.

Seriously, shouts out to Lio for approaching all this and seemingly talking some sense to TK. Now, Khan should delete that tweet he made.

sign Lee Moriarty already, he was great in the latest PWG They signed him. They just haven't really done anything with him yet which hopefully changes soon. AEW has a lot of black superstars they've got signed they haven't done anything with yet and/or superstars who don't have consistent booking. Lio's spoken to Tony and Megah and stated they'll listen to him and others from the African American perspective. We needed this shit. Let's see what'll happen. Yep I completely agree. If this can bring change then we needed this because it's been said for a while now.

Lio has had a really good head on his shoulders lately and it's great to see. Dude gave a well thought out post with mounds of maturity shown. Good on him. Tony continuing to pursue him was a great idea it's turning out.

Hell yeah, Lio. Really happy that it seems like he and Shawn have got Tony Khan's ear on this.
I don't think Tony should delete the tweet he made, though. Own up to it instead of trying to pretend it didn't happen. That's what accountability would look like.

Henry is big asset backstage, and speaking of him(while not going off topic) Did Mark Henry ever apologize for those bullying comments he mentioned last year on Busted Open Radio? No right? He probably did it on private, kinda like how Khan did it with Lio.

I'm saying, sign Trish Adora and just give her all the belts. Adora vs. Hangman at DON. Book it.

Im glad this seems to be ending positively for all parties involved. Even if the Tweet stays up, I hopee Tony keeps it as a reminder, like so he never tweets something like it again, that sorta deal. Don't ignore the mistake that you made in the end. That being said if he did delete it, then no one would complain either, maybe he's trying to think about the best way to word things at this point for a statement before he deletes, guess we'll see
Lio Rush and Shawn Dean I think raised their stock in the end of this, and honestly good for them. If change is to happen, AEW needs voices like that, and i'm very glad Khan listened, he might be stubborn as hell, but at least he isn't above hearing another perspective and being willing to change.
As Lio said, here's to a better 2022. Sucks it had to happen this way, but I hope this is a catalyst for positive change too, sometimes things have to start ugly to end in a better place.

Lio's statement is great but Tony needs to say something publicly about this, ideally an apology. He can't just leave it like this.
