Today in Ring of Honor History: December 3 - 2005: Ring of Honor held "Steel Cage Warfare" in New York City, NY. The show was named after the main event, which saw Generation Next take on The Embassy in ROH's first Steel Cage Warfare, bringing an end to a feud that began one year earlier when Generation Next turned on Alex Shelley at "Final Battle 2004" [12/26/04]. After a nine month absence (seven months if you include his appearances as Black Tiger IV), Rocky Romero returned to cash in his title shot from winning the Trios Tournament [3/5/05], challenging Bryan Danielson for the ROH World Championship. The match would be Romero's last in Ring of Honor before returning fulltime at "Dedicated" [1/26/07]. Following the title match, Bryan Danielson was confronted by the debuting Lance Storm, setting up their showdown at "Better Than Our Best" [4/1/06]. After missing the last four shows, Tony Mamaluke returned to defend the ROH Tag Team Championship with Sal Rinauro against Colt Cabana and Milano Collection AT. Meanwhile, following the revival of their feud at "Enter the Dragon" [10/14/05], Homicide and Steve Corino squared off in their first singles match in ROH since their No Rope Barbed Wire match ["War of the Wire" 11/29/03]. Corino would win the violent encounter thanks to the assistance a masked man strongly suspected to be Colt Cabana (ROH Commissioner Jim Cornette threatened to fine anyone who interfered in the match), causing Homicide's hatred of both men to increase tenfold. Tired of being considered merely a protégé, Jay Lethal looked to prove himself by challenging Samoa Joe to a rematch from their ROH Pure Championship bout at "Manhattan Mayhem" [5/7/05]. What seemed to be a friendly exhibition match turned out to be much more as Lethal turned heel and attacked his mentor's knee with a steel chair, ending their partnership and beginning a feud. Jason Blade and Kid Mikaze evened the score with The Ring Crew Express in a rematch from "Night of Appreciation" [11/19/05]. And Davey Andrews made his first (and last) defense of the Top of the Class Trophy, retaining it against Pelle Primeau. Following the match Ricky Reyes destroyed Andrews along with the rest of ROH students, setting up their match at "Final Battle 2005" [12/17/05]. - 2011: ROH held "Southern Defiance" in Spartanburg, SC. The show saw pretty much every wrestler pulling double duty, as it was headline by the 2011 Honor Rumble. After having first defeated TJ Perkins in a Proving Ground match, ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal would go on to win the Rumble and earn a shot at the ROH World Championship, with it set to take place at Ring of Honor's return to Philadelphia ["Homecoming 2012" - 1/20/12]. The night would see another Proving Ground match, with Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team fending off The House of Truth as potential challengers for their ROH World Tag Team Championship. Eddie Edwards and El Generico squared off in their only singles match against each other in Ring of Honor. Future Kingdom teammates Adam Cole and Mike Bennett met in their third singles match of the year ["Champions vs. All Stars" - 1/14/11; ROH on HDNet: Ep. #97 - taped 1/21/11], with Bennett once again walking away the winner. The All-Night Express and The Young Bucks faced each other for the first time since "Clash of the Contenders" [10/9/09], kicking off their feud. The Briscoes took on Caprice Coleman and Cedric Alexander, and the Bravado Brothers faced Los Ben Dejoss. - 2020: Ring of Honor aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. Despite not being a doctor, PJ Black's techniques seemed to be working on curing Flip Gordon's amnesia, getting him to briefly revert from his 2018 babyface ways back into an angry, cheating heel. Unfortunately doing so caused Black to be disqualified in his non-title match against ROH World Champion Bandido, leading to Black and Gordon having to team up against Bandido and Rey Horus in a tag match. And Williow defeated Mandy Leon to become the number one contender for the ROH Women's World Championship, setting up her title showdown at "Final Battle 2021: End of an Era" [12/1/21].

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 4 - 2004: Ring of Honor held "All-Star Extravaganza 2" in Elizabeth, NJ. After two one hour draws ["World Title Classic" - 6/12/04; "Joe vs. Punk II" - 10/16/04], CM Punk received his third and final shot against Samoa Joe for the ROH World Championship, this time with no time limit. Ultimately, however, extra time would not be needed, as Joe defeated Punk in just half an hour, albeit after resorting to desperate tactics such as trying to pin Punk with his feet on the ropes. There would be one time limit draw on the show, though, as Austin Aries and Low Ki wrestled to a twenty minute draw in a match to determine the number one contender for World title. After Aries offered to continue the match while Low Ki refused, he was awarded the title shot by default, setting up his showdown with Samoa Joe at "Final Battle 2004" [12/26/04]. Chad Collyer and Nigel McGuinness challenged Ricky Reyes and Rocky Romero for the ROH Tag Team Championship, and Jimmy Rave received his first shot against John Walters for the ROH Pure Championship. Following his initial beatdown by The Rottweilers at "Weekend of Thunder: Night Two" [11/06/04], Bryan Danielson was the recipient of a second attack by the group after defeating Homicide in a rematch from "Reborn: Stage Two" [4/24/04]. The legendary Bobby "The Brain" Heenan made his first appearance in Ring of Honor, getting into confrontation with Jim Cornette. Their war of words would result in Heenan leading the returning Colt Cabana and Jimmy Jacobs to victory over Cornette's team of Roderick Strong and Jack Evans in the first "Battle of the Managers". After slapping Prince Nana at "Weekend of Thunder: Night Two", Jay Lethal had to contend with The Embassy's hired mercenary The Weapon of Mask Destruction. The Outcast Killaz picked up an unlikely win in a Tag Team Scramble match over Dan Maff and BJ Whitmer, the Carnage Crew and The Ring Crew Express. Bobby Fish, then known as "Jerk Jackson", wrestled his debut match on the main show, losing to Trent Acid. And after weeks of dissension, Special K finally split in two after losing an Eight-Man Tag Team match against ROH students Davey Andrews, Shane Hagadorn, Anthony Franco and Matt Turner. Dixie and Angel Dust would side with Becky Bayless, while Izzy, Deranged, Cheech and Cloudy remained with Lacey. - 2011: ROH held "Northern Aggression" in Greensboro, NC. After a eleven year run on top, the 75-minute Two out of Three Falls match between Austin Aries and Bryan Danielson at "Testing the Limit" [8/7/04] was finally dethroned as the longest match in Ring of Honor history. In the main event, Eddie Edwards, El Generico and ROH World Tag Team Champions Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team took on The House of Truth and The Briscoes in an Eight-Man Tag Team Elimination match that lasted 80 minutes. To date it remains the longest match in ROH history. Adam Cole took on ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal in a Proving Ground match. The All-Night Express faced the Bravado Brothers, while The Young Bucks squared off with Caprice Coleman and Cedric Alexander. Mike Bennett wrestled TJ Perkins, and Andy Ridge met Sonny Samson. - 2016: ROH ended the year with a television taping in Philadelphia, PA. Back in Ring of Honor's birthplace, much of the taping was dedicated to the "Decade of Excellence" Tournament, an eight-man tournament of wrestlers who were part of ROH's earliest years, with the winner challenging for the ROH World Championship at the "15th Anniversary" [3/10/17]. After advancing over Mark Briscoe in the opening round, founding father Christopher Daniels bested Chris Sabin to be the first man to advance to the finals. Sabin had made his way into the semifinals with a win over Colt Cabana. Founding father Jay Briscoe defeated BJ Whitmer to advance to the semifinals, while Jay Lethal did likewise against the legendary Jushin "Thunder" Liger, setting up another showdown between the former ROH World Champions [ROH TV: Ep. #280 - taped 1/14/17]. Ultimately, though, the most noteworthy aspect of the taping was not the tournament, but that it saw the final appearances of three of the biggest stars in Ring of Honor history. After four years in charge, Nigel McGuinness was removed from his position as ROH Matchmaker in order to return to commentary fulltime as a replacement for Steve Corino, who was departing ROH to become a trainer for WWE's developmental brand NXT. McGuinness' return to commentary would be extremely short lived, however, as two weeks later he too signed with WWE, becoming the color commentator for NXT. Meanwhile, for his final appearance, Corino stepped back into the ring to take on newcomer Cody in a match built off of their angle at "Final Battle 2016" [12/2/16], as well as Corino's history with Cody's father Dusty Rhodes. The most shocking departure would be that of Kyle O'Reilly, who just two days after becoming ROH World Champion wrestled his final match in Ring of Honor, teaming with his reDRagon partner Bobby Fish and Dalton Castle to win a Six-Man Tag Team match over Bullet Club's Adam Cole and ROH World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks. O'Reilly didn't even return to ROH to relinquish the title, but instead dropped the belt back to Cole at New Japan's "Wrestle Kingdom 11" [1/4/17]. ROH World Television Champion Marty Scurll was in non-title action, facing Jonathan Gresham in a Proving Ground match, as were new ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Kingdom, who took on Cheeseburger, Will Ferrara and Joey Daddiego. KUSHIDA won a Three-Way match over Dragon Lee and Will Ospreay. Silas Young and Beer City Bruiser took on future AEW stars Alex Reynolds and John Silver. And after first defeating Caprice Coleman in a singles match in twenty seconds, Lio Rush teamed with Donovan Dijak and Jay White to win a Six-Man Tag Team match over Coleman and his Rebellion teammates Rhett Titus and Kenny King. - 2020: ROH aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. Mike Bennett wrestled his first match in Ring of Honor in five years [ROH TV: Ep. #226 - taped 12/19/15], taking on Vincent on behalf of his friend Matt Taven. And former ROH Pure Champion John Walters wrestled his first Ring of Honor match in fourteen years ["Honor Reclaims Boston" - 11/3/06], taking on Tracy Williams in a Pure Rules match in the main event.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 5 - 2008: Ring of Honor held "Wrestling at the Gateway" in Collinsville, IL. Their debut show in the St. Louis area, the main event saw four of ROH's best in one match as Bryan Danielson teamed up with Jerry Lynn to take on ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness and Claudio Castagnoli. The Age of the Fall's Tyler Black picked up his first win over Austin Aries in a singles match, causing Aries to challenge him to a rematch at "Final Battle 2008" [12/27/08] (in a coincidental bit of foreshadowing, in his promo Aries said the only way Black would ever become ROH World Champion is by going through him, which is exactly what Black did when he became champion ["8th Anniversary Show" - 2/13/10]). The other members of The Age of the Fall were not as successful that night, as Jimmy Jacobs and Delirious coming up short against Necro Butcher and Ace Steel. With news of the upcoming appearances by Kensuke Office's Kensuke Sasaki and Katsuhiko Nakajima, a Tag Team Gauntlet match was held to determine who would face them at "Final Battle 2008", with The Briscoes outlasting Brent Albright and Erick Stevens, Irish Airborne, and Sweet n' Sour, Inc.'s Davey Richards and Bobby Dempsey. The rivalry between the Kennys kicked off, with Kenny Omega taking on Kenny King in a match built off their teaming together at "The French Connection" [11/7/08]. And Grizzly Redwood teamed with Bushwhacker Luke against Rhett Titus and YRR member Sal Rinauro. - 2009: ROH held "Reverse the Curse" in Chicago Ridge, IL. The show was named after Chicago native Colt Cabana, who challenged Austin Aries for the ROH World Championship in a Steel Cage match with the added stipulation that if he lost, Cabana would never again be allowed to challenge for the title in Chicago (that stipulation was forgotten about when he returned to ROH in 2016 ["Global Wars 2016" - 5/8/16]). The match was the second time Aries and Cabana had fought for the title in a Steel Cage match, the previous time taking place at the "Third Anniversary Celebration: Part 1" [2/19/05] during Aries' first reign as champion. As with their first cage match, the sequel had a finish out of nowhere, with Aries retaining after Cabana hit him with a Flying Apple into the side of the cage so hard that it broke the cage apart, causing Aries to fall out to the floor. Cabana's hopes of getting another title shot were dashed when Claudio Castagnoli defeated Kevin Steen to claim the #1 ranking in the Pick 6 Contenders Series, shifting everyone down one spot and knocking Cabana out of the rankings. Following that match, Steen, who had been dealing with an increasingly worsening knee injury (which greatly contributed to his loss to Castagnoli), basically delivered a farewell address to the Chicago fans, leading to more speculation and rumors of an impending retirement. In the other Pick 6 matches of the night, Roderick Strong retained the #4 spot against the #6 ranked Kenny Omega, while Tyler Black retained the #5 spot against Kenny King. As part of his ongoing feud with The Embassy, Necro Butcher took on his former friend Erick Stevens in a grudge match. While Stevens' hatred for Necro would lead to him losing via disqualification, fellow Embassy member Joey Ryan would be more successful, winning a Four Corner Survival match over Rasche Brown, Sami Callihan and Shane Hagadon. The Briscoes squared off with Dark City Fight Club, The Young Bucks faced The House of Truth, and after a yearlong absence, Pelle Primeau returned to participate in a bonus pre-show dark match, teaming with Grizzly Redwood against Bobby Dempsey and Alex Payne. - 2015: ROH held "Road to Final Battle 2015" in Fort Lauderdale, FL. In the main event, The Young Bucks took on House of Truth members ROH World Champion Jay Lethal and Donovan Dijak. Delirious received his final shot at a singles title in Ring of Honor, challenging Roderick Strong for the ROH World Television Championship. Jay Briscoe took on Matt Sydal, while Mark Briscoe faced Will Ferrara. Kyle O'Reilly pulled double duty on the show, first defeating Tim Hughes in a singles match, then later teaming with his reDRagon partner Bobby Fish to win against Alex Shelley and ACH. Adam Cole squared off with Kenny King, War Machine wrestled local wrestlers The Dirty Blondes, and Moose won a Four Corner Survival match over Cheeseburger, Dalton Castle and Rhett Titus.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 6 - 2008: ROH held "Southern Hostility", their debut show in Nashville, TN. Jerry Lynn received his first shot at the ROH World Championship, challenging Nigel McGuinness. After cheating his way to victory, McGuinness made things personal by publicly burying Lynn, calling him a washed-up never-was who's considered a joke by the locker room for still wrestling. After five months of fighting, Bryan Danielson ended his feud with Claudio Castagnoli defeating him in a No Disqualification match. Continuing Gabe Sapolsky's bad habit of not letting finished feuds rest, two weeks after their feud-ending "I Quit" match ["Rising Above 2008" - 11/22/08], Austin Aries and Jimmy Jacobs were once again facing each other after Necro Butcher selected Aries to be his partner in a grudge tag team match against his former Age of the Fall teammates Jacobs and Tyler Black. One of new booker Adam Pearce's bad habits would be on display in the bout as well, with the match ending in a double count out. Meanwhile fellow Age of the Fall member Delirious went solo for the night, winning a singles match against Alex Payne. Sweet n' Sour, Inc. leader Larry Sweeney wrestled his final match in ROH, teaming with Davey Richards in a losing effort against Brent Albright and Erick Stevens. The Briscoes teamed up with Kenny Omega in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Rhett Titus and YRR members Kenny King and Sal Rinauro. All in all it was a bad night for Titus, as in addition to losing the match he was forced to come clean about what happened between him and Daizee Haze, as well as how "addicted to love" he actually is. For her part on the show, Haze competed in a Four Corner Survival match with Sara Del Rey, Serena Deeb and SHIMMER Tag Team Champion Ashley Lane (a.k.a. Madison Rayne). And Grizzly Redwood teamed up Bushwhacker Luke against Irish Airborne. - 2021: ROH aired night one of "Road to Final Battle 2021", with former ROH Pure Champion Jonathan Gresham taking on former ROH World Television Champion Dragon Lee.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 7 - 2002: Ring of Honor held "Night of the Butcher" in Philadelphia, PA. The show was named after the main event, which saw Homicide team up with the legendary Abdullah the Butcher to end his ten month long feud with the Carnage Crew in a Bunkhouse Brawl. After winning the Number One Contender's Trophy at "All-Star Extravaganza" [11/9/02], AJ Styles received his shot at the ROH Championship, challenging Xavier. As such, ROH held a mini-tournament for the now vacant Trophy, with Paul London defeating the debuting EZ Money in the first round, followed by Bryan Danielson in the finals to become the new holder. Danielson, meanwhile, advanced to the finals by besting the debuting Chad Collyer. Colt Cabana made his in-ring debut by taking on his friend/rival CM Punk, with ROH quickly scheduling a rematch between the two at "Final Battle 2002" [12/28/02]. Even before taking the place the rematch drove a wedge between the Chicago wrestlers, as it was announced Ring of Honor could only afford to fly in one of them regularly for shows, so only the winner of their rematch would get an ROH contract. While Punk offered to forgo the cost of airfare and drive so ROH could afford to have both of them on the show, Cabana quickly kicked Punk to the curb and said he couldn't wait to be flown to the shows. The SAT won a Tag Team Scramble match against Da Hit Squad, Special K and the duo of The Amazing Red and Jay Briscoe. Michael Shane took on Jeremy Lopez, and Divine Storm wrestled Jeff Starr and Shockwave. And after being fired no showing "Night of Appreciation" [4/27/02], CW Anderson made an unscheduled appearance to pick a fight with booker Gabe Sapolsky. Additionally, Ring of Honor changed the format to the show, as after weeks of airing past match on High Impact TV, before the main show ROH taped a number of matches exclusive for television (similar to what they would do in 2019). Unfortunately most would not make it to air, as High Impact TV would be cancelled a few weeks after the taping. Of the five matches taped, only Bryan Danielson versus Marcos of The Ring Crew Express and Paul London against Special K's Angels Dust would be aired. Meanwhile AJ Styles taking on fellow George wrestler Jimmy Rave, Da Hit Squad versus The Outcast Killaz, and Christopher Street Connection's Mace against Paul E. Normous would only be seen in brief clips on the DVD release of "Night of the Butcher". - 2014: ROH held their last show of the year, "Final Battle 2014", in New York. NY. The long running feud between ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe and Adam Cole came to an end with the two facing in their last singles match ever against each other, a Fight Without Honor with the title on the line. reDRagon successfully defended the ROH World Tag Team Championship against Time Splitters, while Jay Lethal retained the ROH World Television Championship against Matt Sydal. ACH became a member of Bullet Club for one night only, teaming with The Young Bucks in a Six-Man Tag Team match against The Addiction and Cedric Alexander. The show saw three grudge matches take place, with Michael Elgin taking on Tommaso Ciampa, Roderick Strong facing his former Decade young boy Adam Page, and RD Evans squaring off with the man who cost him #TheNewStreak ["Glory by Honor XIII" - 11/15/14], his former tag team partner Moose. As with #TheNewStreak, Evans would lose after being betrayed by one his supposed friends, this time Veda Scott. Consequently, it would be Evans' final appearance in Ring of Honor. Hanson won a Four Corner Survival match over Caprice Coleman, Jimmy Jacobs and Mark Briscoe. BJ Whitmer teamed up with Mikey Webb against Brutal Burgers in a bonus pre-show match. And Ring of Honor presented potty mouth Cary Silkin with a lifetime achievement award. - 2021: ROH aired night two of "Road to Final Battle 2021", which saw PJ Black and Flip Gordon to take on ROH World Television Champion Dalton Castle and Dak Draper. Meanwhile, on Week by Week, The Righteous squared off with Primal Fear in a Six-Man Tag Team match.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 8 - 2006: Ring of Honor held "The Chicago Spectacular: Night One" in Chicago Ridge, IL. The feud between Samoa Joe and ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson came to an end when the two faced each other in Ring of Honor for the final time, meeting in a Steel Cage match with the title on the line. New ROH World Tag Team Champions Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal quickly went back on their word to be fighting champions taking on all comers, as Danielson competed in a Four Corner Survival match against BJ Whitmer, Davey Richards and Matt Cross, leaving Sydal to team with Shingo against his former Generation Next teammates Austin Aries and Roderick Strong. Following his attack at ROH's last show in Chicago ["Irresistible Forces" - 10/28/06], Colt Cabana took on Jimmy Jacobs a grudge match. The match would end in one of the most painful looking moments in ROH history, as Lacey introduced the Cabana family jewels to the business end of her high heel shoes. Lacey and Jacobs would be added in their assault by Brent Albright, ROH's new gun for hire. It would be a moneymaking night for Albright, as he was also hired by Bryan Danielson to injure his upcoming challenger for the ROH World Championship, Homicide. Nigel McGuinness and Jimmy Rave squared off in a rematch from "Dethroned" [11/25/06], albeit with a lot more intensity after McGuinness disrespected Rave by throwing toilet paper at him. Delirious teamed with Ace Steel to take on Adam Pearce and Shane Hagadorn. The Briscoes defeated Irish Airborne for the third time in five months. And Kikutaro returned to ROH to take on Tank Toland. - 2021: ROH aired night three of "Road to Final Battle 2021", which saw Caprice Coleman wrestle his final match in Ring of Honor as he took on Beer City Bruiser in a grudge match to end their feud. Meanwhile, on "Women's Division Wednesday", Chelsea Green squared off with Miranda Alize.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 9 - 2006: Ring of Honor held "The Chicago Spectacular: Night Two" in Chicago Ridge, IL. The main event saw the feud between Delirious and ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson come to an end, with Delirious leading BJ Whitmer, Colt Cabana and Nigel McGuinness to victory in an Eight-Man Elimination Tag Team match against Danielson, Jimmy Jacobs, Jimmy Rave and Shingo. What was already a heated situation became downright personal when, during a brawl between both teams at the start of the show, the bastards on Delirious' team intentionally with malice aforethought broke Danielson's watch. In a happy accident during the brawl, Jacobs suffered a wound at the hands of Whitmer that perfectly fit his emo character, getting slip open right at the corner of his eyebrow, making it look like he was crying blood. He would adapt it for his look afterwards, drawing red streaks of blood from his eye for the remainder of his feud with BJ Whitmer. There would be an unhappy accident later, though, when Whitmer accidently stabbed Lacey in the face with a spike when he was attempting to hit Jacobs. After weeks of teasing a Strap match, fans got a bait-and-switch when Homicide and Adam Pearce instead faced off in a Steel Cage match. The match would be Homicide's second of the night, as earlier he defeated Pearce's manservant Shane Hagadorn. Austin Aries and Roderick Strong were scheduled to challenge Christopher Daniels and an increasingly cocky Matt Sydal for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, but after Sydal was injured in their tag match the night before, Aries and Strong instead faced Daniels and newcomer Matt Cross. Jay Briscoe squared off with Davey Richards, while Mark Briscoe wrestled his second and final singles match against Samoa Joe. Following the match Joe called out Japanese promotion Pro Wrestling NOAH, leading to a confrontation with frequent NOAH competitor Nigel McGuinness. Ace Steel wrestled the final match of his first ROH run, taking on newcomer Tank Toland. And Jake Crist, with the help of his brother Dave Crist, won a Six Man Mayhem match over CJ Otis, Kikutaro, Pelle Primeau and Trik Davis. - 2010: ROH kicked off their last HDNet tapings of the year, which would be the only set not held in at the former ECW Arena in Philadelphia, instead taking place in Louisville, KY. In the lone title match of the night, Mark Briscoe challenged Eddie Edwards for the ROH World Television Championship. ROH World Champion Roderick Strong, meanwhile, competed in a non-title match against Colt Cabana, while ROH World Tag Team Champions the Kings of Wrestling split up to compete in singles matches, with Chris Hero facing Christopher Daniels, and Claudio Castagnoli taking on Homicide. After a positive response to their appearance at "Glory by Honor IX" [9/11/10], Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team began full time with ROH, starting things off with an easy win over the Bravado Brothers. The Briscoes took on OVW Southern Tag Team Champions The Elite, Mike Bennett faced former WWE star and OVW icon Nick Dinsmore, and Grizzly Redwood squared off with former Spirit Squad member Mike Mondo. Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly met Corey Hollis and Mike Posey, and longtime friends and rivals Daizee Haze and MsChif wrestled each other for the final time. That match would also be Haze's last singles match in Ring of Honor. - 2021: On night four of "Road to Final Battle 2021", Homicide, Chris Dickson and Tony Deppen of VLNCE UNLTD challenged Shane Taylor Promotions for the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 10 - 2010: Ring of Honor held their final HDNet taping of the year in Louisville, KY. Christopher Daniels won his first singles title in Ring of Honor, defeating Eddie Edwards to become the new ROH World Television Champion. As with the night before, the TV title was the only championship match on the taping. ROH World Champion Roderick Strong teamed with his House of Truth stablemate Michael Elgin against Alex Silva and Chrisjen Hayme, while ROH World Tag Team Champions the Kings of Wrestling teamed with The All-Night Express in an Eight-Man Tag Team match against The Briscoes and Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team. That match would be Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team and The All-Night Express' second match against each other that evening, as earlier they faced in a traditional two-on-two tag match. Homicide won his eighth singles match since returning to ROH, defeating Orion Bishop. After losing on Ep. #81 [taped 10/1/10] and at "Fate of an Angel" [11/13/10], the Bravado Brothers finally picked up a win over Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly. Colt Cabana took on Mike Mondo, Mike Bennett faced Grizzly Redwood, and Sara Del Rey and Taeler Hendrix met in a rematch from Ep. #74 [8/20/10]. - 2021: ROH aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. And ROH aired a replay of Chelsea Green and Miranda Alize's match from Women's Division Wednesday: Ep. #33 [aired 12/8/21]. Additionally, ROH streamed the fifth and final night of "Road to Final Battle 2021", with EC3 squaring off with Demonic Flamita.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 10 - 2020: Ring of Honor aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. PCO and Mark Briscoe teamed up to take on The Bouncers, and Flip Gordon entered the Pure Wrestling Division, facing Josh Woods in his first match. - 2021: Ring of Honor held their last show of the year, "Final Battle 2021: The End of an Era", in Baltimore, MD. Following the show, ROH went on hiatus, continuing to fill their television commitments by airing pre-recorded matches before switching to specials focusing on various wrestlers. During the hiatus the promotion was sold to Tony Khan, making "Final Battle 2021" the last Ring of Honor show produced by Sinclair Broadcasting and COO Joe Koff, and the last to be booked by Delirious. Originally the main event was to see Jonathan Gresham challenging Bandido for the ROH World Championship, but for the second year in a row ["Final Battle 2020" - 12/18/20], Bandido was forced to withdraw from the show after contracting COVID-19. Thanks to the help of future owner Tony Khan, Gresham was still able to wrestle for the World title, facing his former Foundation partner and now AEW contracted wrestler Jay Lethal for the original ROH World Championship belt that was introduced all the way back in 2002 ["Crowning a Champion" - 7/27/02]. The Briscoes, who had been with Ring of Honor since day one ["The Era of Honor Begins" - 2/23/02], defeated The OGK to become ROH World Tag Team Champions for the twelfth time. Following the match they were confronted by AEW tag team FTR, kicking off a rivalry still going one year later. Rhett Titus, who began training at the ROH Wrestling Academy in 2005, won a Four Corner Survival match over then-champion Dalton Castle, Silas Young, and returning Scottish wrestler Joe Hendry to win the ROH World Television Championship. In the last title change of the night, The Righteous defeated Shane Taylor Promotions to become the new ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions. Shane Taylor would be replaced by O'Shay Edwards in the title match, as he instead took on his former friend Kenny King in a Fight Without Honor to end their ten month long feud [ROH TV: Ep. #493 - aired 2/26/21]. Josh Woods retained the ROH Pure Championship against Brian Johnson, while Rok-C defended the ROH Women's World Championship against Willow. After retaining, Rok-C was confronted by former ROH wrestler and reigning AAA Reina de Reinas Champion Deonna Purrazzo, setting up a Title vs. Title match between the two in Impact Wrestling [1/9/2]. Purrazzo wasn't the only returning face on the show, as Rocky Romero returned to team with VLNCE UNLTD's Brody King, Tony Deppen, and ROH founding father and Romero's former Rottweilers teammate Homicide in an Eight-Man Tag Team match against EC3, Eli Isom, Taylor Rust and Tracy Williams. In the highlight of the match, the wrestlers hit a sequence of finishing and signature moves of past Ring of Honor stars, which including Rust giving Homicide his own Ace Crusher. Fans would witness another surprise appearance after the match, with the former Braun Strowman attacking Isom before joining EC3 in announcing the creating of the Control Your Narrative promotion. Dragon Lee squared off with Rey Horus, Chelsea Green teamed with NWA World Women's Tag Team Champions The Hex in a Six-Woman Tag Team match against The Allure and Miranda Alize, and PJ Black, Flip Gordon, World Famous CB and The Bouncers won a "Wild Card" 10-Man Tag Team match over Demonic Flamita, LSG, Sledge, Will Ferrara and Max the Impaler. Additionally, several past Ring of Honor stars appeared throughout the night in taped messages to show their support for the promotion: Adam Cole, Adam Page, Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, Eddie Edwards, Jimmy Jacobs, and The Young Bucks.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 12 - 2021: Jimmy Rave, one of Ring of Honor's most beloved wrestlers-you-love-to-hate, passed away at the age of 39. Rave began his ROH career as the protégé of fellow Georgia wrestler AJ Styles, before turning heel as "The Crown Jewel" of The Embassy. He was also a member of S.C.U.M. during a very brief return in 2013. During his time in Ring of Honor, Rave feuded with the likes of CM Punk, AJ Styles, Generation Next, Nigel McGuinness and Necro Butcher, and earned the appreciation of the fans so much that they showed "respect" to him by throwing toilet paper at him during his entrance.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 13 - 2019: Ring of Honor held their last major show of the year, "Final Battle 2019", in Baltimore, MD. The night was a bad one to be a champion, as three of ROH's five titles were on the line, with all three changing hands. Dragon Lee defeated Shane Taylor to win the ROH World Television Championship for the first time, while Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham defeated The Briscoes to become the new ROH World Tag Team Champions. In the most unlikely title change, seventeen days before his 52nd birthday, ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion PCO defeated Rush in a no disqualification "Friday the 13th Massacre" match to become ROH World Champion. Mark Haskins ended his feud with Bully Ray, facing him in a Street Fight. Former Kingdom teammates Matt Taven and Vincent squared off in the first match of their nearly two year long feud. After months of trying, Maria Manic finally got her hands on Angelina Love, taking her on in what was actually Maria's debut match. Despite their careers overlapping for years in places like IWA: Mid-South, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, and of course Ring of Honor, Colt Cabana and Alex Shelley wrestled what was their first and only singles match ever against each other. In another one time only singles match, former All-Night Express partners Rhett Titus and Kenny King met in a grudge match. Bandido, having quietly left LifeBlood, teamed with his MexaBlood partner Flamita against ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Marty Scurll and Flip Gordon of Villain Enterprises. Jeff Cobb and Dan Maff faced off in a battle of the big men. And 2 Guys 1 Tag took on the odd couple tag team of Dalton Castle and Joe Hendry.

Colt Cabana vs Alex Shelley was such a nice surprise, and PCO beating RUSH felt like something much needed had be re-energized into ROH. Two super feel good moments.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 14 - 2013: Ring of Honor held their last show of the year, "Final Battle 2013", in New York. NY. Adam Cole faced his toughest test to date as ROH World Champion, defending the title in a Three-Way match against "Real ROH World Champion" Jay Briscoe and Michael Elgin. Cole would win with the help of his new buddy Matt Hardy, who made his return earlier in the show by taking on Adam Page. Hardy wouldn't be the only return of the night, as Chris Hero made a surprise appearance after the match, kicking off his brief second tenure in ROH by confronting Cole. Offsetting the returns, Ring of Honor's first triple crown champion Eddie Edwards wrestled his final match in ROH, taking on Roderick Strong and Jay Lethal in a tag team match. Edwards was originally scheduled to team with his American Wolves partner Davey Richards, but after Richards was fired from ROH, Edwards instead teamed with BJ Whitmer. Ostensibly the match was just a one night return for Whitmer, who retired due to injury after taking a botched piledriver at "All-Star Extravaganza V" [8/3/13], but he quickly proved it not to be the case when he turned heel and attacked Edwards during his farewell address, forming The Decade with Strong and Jimmy Jacobs. Tommaso Ciampa defeated Matt Taven to win the ROH World Television Championship, the only title he'd hold in Ring of Honor. Kevin Steen won his feud against Michael Bennett, besting him in ROH's first and only Stretcher match, while Mark Briscoe lost his feud with Silas Young, coming up short in Strap match. The Young Bucks made a special appearance to face Adrenaline RUSH in a rematch from "All-Star Extravaganza V". And in a bonus pre-show match, Cheeseburger found himself in a matchup with two people he'd go on to have a lot of history with at Final Battle, teaming with his Brutal Burgers partner Brutal Bob Evans against Will Ferrara and his Team Benchmark partner Bill Daly. Cheeseburger and Evans would also team at "Final Battle 2014" [12/7/14], before facing off against each other at "Final Battle 2015" [12/18/15], with Cheeseburger and Ferrara then teaming together at "Final Battle 2016" [12/2/16], before being on opposite teams at "Final Battle 2017" [12/15/17] and "Final Battle 2021: End of an Era" [12/11/21]. - 2018: ROH held their last major show of the year, "Final Battle 2018", in New York, NY. The Briscoes reclaimed the ROH World Tag Team Championship in the main event, defeating then-champions SoCal Uncensored and The Young Bucks in a Ladder War. To date, the match marked the last meeting between longtime the Briscoes and the Bucks. Cody wrestled his final singles match in Ring of Honor, challenging Jay Lethal for the ROH World Championship in a rematch of his debut at "Final Battle 2016" [12/2/16]. After two and a half months as champion, Jeff Cobb made his first defense of the ROH World Television Championship, retaining against Adam Page. Kelly Klein came out on top in a Four-Way Elimination match with Sumie Sakai, Karen Q (in her final match) and Madison Rayne to win the WOH World Championship for the first time. In need of a title to remain in the promotion, ROH founding father Christopher Daniels challenged Marty Scurll for the title shot he earned by winning Survival of the Fittest 2018 [11/4/18]. Daniels would come up short, however, and as a result the match ended up being his last in Ring of Honor. Flip Gordon finally got revenge on Bully Ray by defeating him in an "I Quit" match. The loss would cause the grumpy Bully Ray to become even grumpier, as he would repeatedly harass the referee of the match for months, insisting that he never quit. ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Matt Taven put his "Real ROH World Championship" on the line against Dalton Castle, Kenny King took on Eli Isom, and international star Zack Sabre Jr. made his Ring of Honor debut against Jonathan Gresham. And in a bonus pre-show match, Best Friends won a Three-Way Tag Team match over The Bouncers and ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Kingdom. - 2019: MCW Pro Wrestling partnered with ROH for "Future of Honor 3" in Joppa, MD. In the main event, Jonathan Gresham challenged his future Foundation teammate Rhett Titus for the MCW Heavyweight Championship. Rayo won a Battle Royal to earn the right to face Shane Taylor. Flip Gordon took on Eli Isom. The Bouncers teamed with Ken Dixon in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Primal Fear. Brian Johnson won a Four-Way match over Caprice Coleman, Dante Caballero and Joe Keys. 2019 Top Prospect winner Dak Draper squared off with Kekoa, the Soldiers of Savagery faced Sledge and Victor Benjamin, and O'Shay Edwards teamed with The Sickness against Chuckles the Clown and PB Smooth. And in women's action, Gia Scott took on Lady Frost, and Amy Rose, Portia and Trish Adora met in a Three-Way match.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 15 - 2017: Ring of Honor held their last major show of the year, "Final Battle 2017", in New York, NY. In a shocking upset, the flamboyant Dalton Castle defeated Cody in the main event to become the new ROH World Champion. It would not be the only title change on the show, as Silas Young came out on top in a Four-Way Elimination match over then-champion Kenny King, Punishment Martinez and Shane Taylor to win the ROH World Television Championship for the first time. The Motor City Machine Guns retained the ROH World Tag Team Championship against Best Friends, and Bullet Club's The Young Bucks and Adam Cole retained the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship against Flip Gordon and CMLL wrestlers Dragon Lee and Titan. The feud between The Briscoes and Bully Ray came to an end, with the Briscoes winning a Street Fight over Bully and Tommy Dreamer. Following the match, Bully Ray would retire from being an in-ring competitor…for all of four months ["Supercard of Honor XII" - 4/7/18]. Jay Lethal squared off with Marty Scurll, Matt Taven took on Will Ospreay, and War Machine faced The Addiction. And ROH announced the creation of the Women of Honor World Championship, with a tournament to crown the first champion set to kick off at ROH's first television taping of 2018 [1/20/18]. - 2018: ROH held their last event of the year, a television taping, in Philadelphia, PA. The show would see a major turnover in the roster, with a number of debuts and departures, most notably SoCal Uncensored and pretty much all of Bullet Club, who were leaving to join some upstart blood and guts t-shirt company in Florida. SoCal Uncensored's farewell would see Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky getting their rematch against The Briscoes after losing the ROH World Tag Team Championship at "Final Battle 2018" the night before, while the departure of Bullet Club would main event the taping, with Cody, Adam Page and The Young Bucks taking on ROH World Champion Jay Lethal, Flip Gordon and Best Friends in a dark Eight-Man Tag Team match. Marty Scurll, the lone member of Bullet Club remaining ROH, unveiled his new faction Villain Enterprises, with the debuting PCO and Brody King as its first members. The new stable would get off to a successful start, winning a Six-Man Tag Team match over Shinobi Shadow Squad. Also making his debut that night was future two-time ROH World Champion Rush, who defeated ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion TK O'Ryan in a singles match. After impressive showings at "Survival of the Fittest 2018" [11/4/18], PJ Black and Tracy Williams began fulltime with Ring of Honor, with Black facing Juice Robinson while Williams took on Zack Sabre Jr. New WOH World Champion Kelly Klein made her first title defense, retaining against Nikki Addams. ROH World Television Champion Jeff Cobb was in non-title action, fending off Luchasaurus as a potential challenger by defeating him in a Proving Ground match. Two wrestlers did take a step to become challengers, though, as ROH held a mini-tournament to determine a number one contender for the TV title, with Eli Isom advancing over Façade while Silas Young advanced over his former friend Beer City Bruiser in a No Disqualification grudge match. Dalton Castle became the new number one contender for the ROH World Championship after winning a Four Corner Survival match over Chris Sabin, Flip Gordon and Marty Scurll. Shane Taylor won a squash match over Mike Law, and Madison Rayne and Britt Baker teamed up against The Twisted Sisterz. - 2019: ROH held their last show of the year, "Final Battle 2019: Fallout", in Philadelphia, PA. As with many of Ring of Honor's 2019 events, the show was a combination television taping and live event. New ROH World Champion PCO teamed with his co-ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion and Villain Enterprises leader Marty Scurll against Jeff Cobb and Dan Maff. 2 Guys 1 Tag defeated ex-champions The Briscoes to become the number one contenders for the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Meanwhile new Tag Team Champion Jonathan Gresham went solo for the night when took on his former Search and Destroy teammate Alex Shelley. Future ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Rey Horus made his debut, facing Villain Enterprises member Flip Gordon. Tracy Williams squared off with newcomer Bateman, while his LifeBlood partner Mark Haskins wrestled CHIKARA's Hallowicked. And a match between Sumie Sakai and Nicole Savoi ended with Bully Ray putting Maria Manic through a table. In the television exclusive matches, Eli Isom faced former WCW wrestler Crowbar, while his Shinobi Shadow Squad teammates Cheeseburger and Ryan Nova took on the Soldiers of Savagery. The Bouncers picked up a win over Dalton Castle and Joe Hendry, and PJ Black and Brian Johnson teamed up against The Master and the Machine. Additionally, Kenny King was announced as the third member of the newly formed La Facción Ingobernable, Vincent unveiled his new stable The Righteous, and it was announced Australian wrestler Slex had signed with Ring of Honor. - 2021: On Women's Division Wednesday, Quinn McKay wrestled her final match in Ring of Honor, teaming with ROH Women's World Champion Rok-C against Holidead and Willow.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 16 - 2012: Ring of Honor held their last show of the year, "Final Battle 2012: Doomsday", in New York, NY. After an eight month absence ["Rising Above 2012" - 4/29/12], El Generico returned for what would be his final match in Ring of Honor, challenging his former friend turned hated enemy Kevin Steen for the ROH World Championship in Ladder War IV. Due to Generico subsequently retiring from wrestling to run an orphanage in his native Mexico before being tragically gunned down by a vicious drug cartel, the match marked the final time Steen and Generico faced off against each other (fortunately, though, they were able to make peace before his demise, teaming together one last time at PWG's "DDT4 2013"). Generico would not be the only one returning for their final match, as after a two year absence ["Salvation" - 7/24/10], former ROH World Champion Jerry Lynn returned to wrestle Mike Bennett as part of his retirement tour. Also returning that night was Matt Hardy, who scored a tainted win over ROH World Television Champion Adam Cole in a non-title match, leading to him campaigning for months for a title shot. The Briscoes won the ROH World Tag Team Championship for the eighth time, defeating then-champions Jimmy Jacobs and Steve Corino of S.C.U.M. as well as C&C Wrestle Factory in a Three-Way match. S.C.U.M. may have lost the titles, but they gained a fourth member when Rhino, who began the year as a member of The Embassy before switching to The House of Truth, was revealed to have joined the group during him match against Jay Lethal. Meanwhile, Rhino's former faction The House of Truth imploded, with Roderick Strong and Michael Elgin facing off in a grudge match before making it patently obvious to Truth Martini neither wanted anything to do with him anymore. In another showdown of inter-faction warfare, Prince Nana took on the man who cheated him out of The Embassy, his former barrister RD Evans. That match was both a beginning and an end, marking Evans' first and Nana's last time stepping into the ring as a wrestler in ROH. A year after the ROH World Championship split them apart, Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards reunited as The American Wolves to face Richards' former protégé Kyle O'Reilly and his new partner Bobby Fish. And the feud pitting Rhett Titus and BJ Whitmer against Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team came to a head in a Street Fight. The match initially began as a somewhat lighthearted affair with a Christmas tree and giant candy canes being used as weapons, but took a dark turned with the finish seeing one of the scariest bumps in ROH history, as Whitmer crashing headfirst through a table after being thrown off the top rope by Charlie Haas. - 2017: ROH ended the year with a television taping in Philadelphia, PA. New ROH World Champion Dalton Castle teamed with The Boys in a Six-Man Tag Team match against The Kingdom, while the former champion Cody teamed with his Bullet Club buddies Marty Scurll and ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Adam Page in Six-Man Tag Team match against the newly formed trio SoCal Uncensored. Despite the victory, it was not all good news for SCU, as ROH COO Joe Koff, fed up with The Addictions behavior, gave them a one year noticed by announcing he would not be renewing their contracts when they expired at the end of 2018. The Six-Man Tag was Marty Scurll's second match of the evening, as earlier he wrestled Flip Gordon in a singles match. Adam Page's co-Six-Man Champions The Young Bucks won a Three-Way Tag Team match over Best Friends and the CMLL duo of Dragon Lee and Titan. The Motor City Machine Guns retained the ROH World Tag Team Championship against The Dawgs, while new ROH World Television Champion Silas Young made his first title defense, retaining against former WWE wrestler Simon Grimm. Meanwhile, the former TV Champion Kenny King took on Young's new ally Brian Milonas, who began full time with ROH. Coast 2 Coast scored what was then their biggest win, defeating former ROH World Tag Team Champions War Machine in what was their final match in Ring of Honor. Jonathan Gresham and Josh Woods met in a rematch from the night before, Jay Lethal took on Will Ospreay, The Briscoes won a squash match over Eli Isom and Ryan Nova, and Bully Ray announced his retirement from wrestling (it didn't last long). Additionally, Brandi Rhodes qualified for the WOH World Championship Tournament with a win over Stella Grey while Jessie Brooks qualified with a win over Gabby Ortiz. Sumie Sakai and Jenny Rose teamed up against Deonna Purrazzo and Mandy Leon, and Brutal Bob Evans wrestled his final match in ROH, teaming with Tim Hughes to defeated Eli Isom and Ryan Nova.

Today in Ring of Honor History: - 2005: Ring of Honor held their last show of the year, "Final Battle 2005" in Edison, NJ. After the door was opened with the appearance of Kenta Kobashi a couple of months earlier ["Joe vs. Kobashi" - 10/1/05; "Unforgettable" - 10/2/05], the partnership between ROH and Pro Wrestling NOAH grew stronger with the debuts of KENTA and Naomichi Marufuji. The two were immediately put in prominent positions, with Marufuji challenging Bryan Danielson for the ROH World Championship, while in the main event KENTA defended the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship against Low Ki. After ending 2004 by winning the ROH World Championship ["Final Battle 2004" - 12/26/04], Austin Aries once again closed out the year winning gold, this time by teaming with his Generation Next partner Roderick Strong to defeat Tony Mamaluke and Sal Rinauro to become the new ROH Tag Team Champions. Claudio Castagnoli was granted a rematch for the ROH Pure Championship after Nigel McGuinness got him wrongly disqualified in his title match at "Showdown in Motown" [11/4/05], but his eagerness for payback resulted in him getting himself legitimately disqualified. With ongoing issues between former Prophecy members Christopher Daniels and BJ Whitmer as well as a new feud between Samoa Joe and his ex-protégé Jay Lethal, instead of two grudge matches, ROH threw all of them together in a Four Corner Survival match. The Embassy went 2-0 in their last outing of the year, with Jimmy Rave besting Milano Collection AT while Alex Shelley came out on top against Steve Corino. Following the match, Homicide attacked Corino in an effort to get revenge for him injuring his shoulder in their grudge match at "Steel Cage Warfare" [12/3/05], but he shifted his focus when Colt Cabana tried to come to Corino's aid. This led to one of the most infamous moments of the Cabana/Homicide feud, with Homicide trying to kill Cabana by pouring drain cleaner down his throat. Even before the attempted murder it was apparent the feud was getting to Cabana, as he displayed a darker, more serious attitude in his match against Azrieal earlier in the show. And after weeks of brutalizing the ROH students, Ricky Reyes now set his sights on the top student, Top of the Class Trophy holder Davey Andrews. The match would be the last in Andrews' pro wrestling career. - 2010: ROH held "Tag Title Classic II" in Plymouth, MA. The show was named after the main event, which saw The American Wolves challenge the Kings of Wrestling for the ROH World Tag Team Championship in the first ever match between the two teams. ROH World Champion Roderick Strong was in non-title action, wrestling an exhibition match against Sonjay Dutt. Likewise new ROH World Television Champion Christopher Daniels was in non-title action, instead being chosen as the final opponent for Andy Ridge in his Trial Series. The night before his Fight Without Honor, El Generico picked up some momentum by winning a Four Corner Survival match over Grizzly Redwood, Rhett Titus and Ricky Reyes. Generico's former friend turned hated enemy Kevin Steen also picked up some momentum, teaming with Steve Corino to defeat The Briscoes. Colt Cabana squared off with Mike Bennett, Kenny King took on Adam Cole, and TJ Perkins faced Kyle O'Reilly. - 2021: With Ring of Honor on hiatus, the final episodes of television taped in Baltimore, MD began to air. In an episode dedicated to younger wrestlers, Josh Woods defended the ROH Pure Championship against Dak Draper. Dante Caballero took on Matt Makowski, and Rayo won a Four Corner Survival match over Eric Martin, Joe Keys and Primal Fear's Adrian Soriano.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 18 - 2009: Ring of Honor held "Eye of the Storm 2" in Manassas, VA. The show would not see its own individual release, but was instead included as a bonus on the "Final Battle 2009" DVD. As with the original "Eye of the Storm" [2/22/08], adverse weather conditions caused changes to the show's card as talent either arrived late or not at all. In the main event, Rocky Romero returned after a year and a half long absence ["A New Level" – 5/10/08] to team with The Briscoes against his AAA rival Alex Koslov and ROH World Tag Team Champions The American Wolves. Originally the match was scheduled to be an Eight-Man Tag Team match, with the returning Jack Evans on Team Briscoe and the infamous Teddy Hart on Team Wolves, but they were unable to make it to the show due to the weather. ROH World Champion Austin Aries was in non-title action, teaming with Kenny King against The Young Bucks. Three spots in the Pick 6 Contenders Series were on the line, with Chris Hero defending the #3 ranking against Colt Cabana, Roderick Strong defending the #4 ranking against the #5 ranked Tyler Black, and Kenny Omega defending the #6 ranking against Rhett Titus. The writing seemed to be on the wall for Kevin Steen, as his worsening knee injury greatly contributed to his and El Generico's loss in a tag team match agaisnt The Embassy' Erick Stevens and Bison Smith. Sonjay Dutt squared off with Grizzly Redwood, and due to a shortage of wrestlers, Adam Pearce stepped back into the ring as a competitor, teaming with the debuting (very) old school wrestler Matt Classic against The Set. - 2010: ROH held their last show of the year, "Final Battle 2010", in New York, NY. Nearly one year to the day that their bitter feud began ["Final Battle 2009" – 12/19/09], the war between former tag team partners Kevin Steen and El Generico came to a (temporary) end, with the two facing in a brutal Fight Without Honor. The two risked it all in the match, with Generico wagering his mask (and thus identity), and Steen putting up his ROH career. As a result, after losing Steen would spend the next year in exile before winning his job back at "Final Battle 2011" [12/23/11]. Behind the scenes the match drew a bit of contention from the participants due to Ring of Honor’s decision to bill the match as being unsanctioned, thereby making the "official" main event Davey Richards challenging Roderick Strong for the ROH World Championship. Steen versus Generico wouldn't be the only one year long feud to end on show, as The Briscoes teamed with "Big Man" Papa Briscoe to defeat ROH World Tag Team Champions the Kings of Wrestling and Shane Hagadorn in a Six-Man Tag Team match to end their feud that also began at "Final Battle 2009". That match would be Hagadorn's last in ROH. In his first Ring of Honor match back in his hometown of New York City, Homicide extended his winning streak with a victory over ROH World Television Champion Christopher Daniels in a non-title match. Homicide would be seconded in the match by his friend and former manager Julius Smokes. Former TV Champion Eddie Edwards took on Sonjay Dutt, Colt Cabana faced TJ Perkins, and The All-Night Express squared off with Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly in a rematch from "Richards vs. Daniels" [10/16/10]. And Daizee Haze and Sara Del Rey wrestled against each other for the final time, with Del Rey teaming with Serena Deeb to defeat Haze and Amazing Kong in a tag team match. - 2015: ROH held they last major show of the year, "Final Battle 2015", in Philadelphia, PA. AJ Styles wrestled what would be his final match in Ring of Honor, challenging Jay Lethal for the ROH World Championship in the main event. That match would see a special one night return of former ROH World Champion Jerry Lynn, who filled in as guest commentator. Bobby Fish challenged Roderick Strong for the ROH World Television Championship, but came up short. War Machine had a better night, defeating The Kingdom's Michael Bennett and Matt Taven to become the new ROH World Tag Team Champions. One year before their showdown for the World title, former tag teams partners Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly faced each other for the first time at Final Battle. In another matchup between former tag team partners, the recently returned Alex Shelley teamed with Matt Sydal and ACH to take on his former Motor City Machine Guns partner Chris Sabin and his buddies The Addiction in a Six-Man Tag Team match. Dalton Castle failed to defeat his hated rival Silas Young in a grudge match, but though he may have lost the battle, he won the war when The Boys turned on Young and rejoined him. In a battle of two of ROH's biggest men, Michael Elgin and Moose met in a rematch from their no contest at the beginning of the year [ROH TV: Ep. #178 – taped 1/24/15]. And The All-Night Express won a Three-Way Tag Team match over two of the greatest teams in Ring of Honor history, The Briscoes and The Young Bucks, to become the number one contenders for the ROH World Tag Team Championship. - 2020: ROH returned to pay-per-view with their last major show of the year, "Final Battle 2020", which was taped in Baltimore, MD. Despite their best efforts, the biggest heel of the year, COVID-19, reared its ugly head, causing changes to the card. Originally Shane Taylor Promotions was scheduled to challenge MexiSquad for the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship, while Jay Briscoe faced EC3 in a grudge match. However, EC3 and MexiSquad members Bandido and Flamita all tested positive for COVID, forcing them to withdraw from the show. Not able to challenge for the titles, Ring of Honor offered to award Shane Taylor Promotions the Six-Man titles by forfeit, but Shane Taylor refused, wanting to win the belts in the ring rather than being given them. Instead of challenging for the titles, Taylor took on Jay Briscoe in a singles match, picking up a win over the former two-time ROH World Champion. After finding out his match was cancelled, Jay had initially hoped to team with his brother Mark Briscoe in challenging The Foundation's Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham for the ROH World Tag Team Championship in a rematch from "Final Battle 2019" [12/13/19], but had those plans dashed when Mark informed him he already had a partner, former ROH World Champion PCO. When Mark and PCO ultimately came up short against The Foundation, the decision for the Briscoes to not team together in the match would lead to a quasi-feud between the brothers. Meanwhile, Rey Horus, the lone member of MexiSquad cleared to compete on the show, faced off with Dalton Castle. Being a double champion, Tag Team Champion Jonathan Gresham had to pull double duty on the show, also defending the ROH Pure Championship against Flip Gordon. Tony Deppen won a Four Corner Survival match over Dak Draper, Josh Woods and LSG on the pre-show to earn a title shot at the ROH World Television Championship, but couldn't get the job done when he challenged Dragon Lee for the belt later that night. Brody King challenged Rush for the ROH World Championship in the main event, but was cheated out of the title due to the repeated interference of La Facción Ingobernable. Five years to the day of the last time they teamed together ["Final Battle 2015"], Matt Taven and Mike Bennett reunited as The OGK to win a grudge match over Vincent and Bateman of The Righteous. Due to a win being a win, Danhausen earned a Ring of Honor contract after defeating Brian Johnson by disqualification. And on the pre-show, Rhett Titus and Tracy Williams of The Foundation won the first ever Pure Rules Tag Team match, defeating Fred Yehi and Wheeler Yuta. Additionally, Ring of Honor also aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore. Dalton Castle took on Brian Johnson, and former rivals Delirious and Rhett Titus met in a Pure Rules match in the main event.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 19 - 2009: Ring of Honor held their last show of the year, "Final Battle 2009", in New York, NY. After eight years of fans having to watch the show on tape delay, it was the first ROH event that could be watched live as it was streamed as Ring of Honor's inaugural internet pay-per-view. That brought with it some highs, but unfortunately also some lows. After having a traumatic year due to mental health issues, which included him lashing out at Ring of Honor and owner Cary Silkin online, a much healthier Larry Sweeney was brought back as a surprise guest commentator for the show. However, with iPPV being an experiment, Sweeney's commentary was pretty much inaudible during the show due to technical issues, forcing ROH to redo the commentary without him for the DVD release. While most of the matches were received fairly well by the fans, the show had the distinction of being headlined with one of the most infamous main events in Final Battle history, as ROH World Champion Austin Aries and Tyler Black met in a rematch from "Final Battle 2008" [12/27/08] with the title on the line. Though under different circumstances the fans might have reacted better, that night the live audience grew frustrated as the two wrestled to a one hour time limit draw while a blizzard was bombarding the city with snow. Instead of being an epic match for the ages, the repeated obvious stalls for time led to fans chanting "This is bullshit" and "We want wrestling", which is probably not the reaction ROH wanted on their first live show. Besides adding to the frustration of the fans in the main event, the weather issues also caused a major change to the show's lineup. As a continuation of their feuds in AAA in Mexico, the returning Rocky Romero and Jack Evans were originally scheduled to team together against Alex Koslov and the infamous Teddy Hart, who was making his first appearance since ROH dropped him like a bad habit after "At Our Best" [3/13/04]. However, due to travel issues caused by the weather, Evans and Hart did not arrive in time for the match, causing Romero and Koslov to wrestle each other in a singles match. Fans would get to see Evans and Hart, though, when the two suddenly appeared right before the main event, and shoved as much as they could into an impromptu five minute match (which could be the perfect example of a "no-selling indy spotfest"). It would end up being the last match either of them ever had in Ring of Honor, as following the conclusion referee Bryce Remsburg was sent to get them out of the ring, but they repeatedly ignored him and proceeded to take turns addressing the fans (which they had already done before the match). The other wrestler affected by the weather delay was Necro Butcher, who was scheduled to team with Delirious against Erick Stevens and Bison Smith of The Embassy. The absence of Necro led to the surprise appearance of Pelle Primeau, who tried to come to the aid of Delirious despite the fact that the last time Primeau was seen in ROH, it was being carried out after Delirious destroyed him at "Night of the Butcher II" [8/16/08]. Primeau's return was extremely short lived, and after being quickly taken out by The Embassy, Bobby Dempsey came out to be Delirious' new partner. Rounding out the show, Kenny King stole a win over Roderick Strong to claim the #4 ranking in the Pick 6 Contenders Series, Eddie Kingston defeated his longtime hated rival Chris Hero in a Fight Without Honor, and Claudio Castagnoli came out on top in a Four Corner Survival match against Colt Cabana, Kenny Omega and Rhett Titus. While Final Battle traditionally sees the end of major feuds, "Final Battle 2009" would instead be the start of two feuds that would last all the way until "Final Battle 2010" [12/18/10]. In a showdown that was coincidentally also a year in the making ["Final Battle 2008" - 12/27/08], The Briscoes defeated The American Wolves to win the ROH World Tag Team Championship for the sixth time. Their celebration would be cut short, however, when they were suddenly attacked by Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli, who reunited as the Kings of Wrestling. Meanwhile, what fans expected to be a farewell match ended up being one of the most shocking heel turns in Ring of Honor history. After months of playing up his knee injury, including leaking news to internet sites that it was getting so bad he was planning to call it quits, Kevin Steen teamed with El Generico in a rematch against The Young Bucks from "Aries vs. Richards" [11/13/09]. After losing, Steen launched into a retirement speech thanking the various promotions and wrestlers he's worked with over his career. When he got to El Generico, however, instead of thanking him, Steen suddenly proclaimed he hated him and brutally attacked him, giving him one of the loudest chair shots in ROH history. Ultimately, though, that chair shot would come back to bite him, as one year later Generico used that exact same chair to defeat Steen in a Fight Without Honor and (temporarily) end his career in Ring of Honor. - 2015: ROH closed out their year with a television taping in Philadelphia, PA. Roderick Strong made another successful defense of the ROH World Television Championship, retaining against former ECW star Stevie Richards. New ROH World Tag Team Champions War Machine were in non-title action, taking on Donovan Dijak and Joey Daddiego of The House of Truth. Dijak pulled double duty on the tapings, also taking on Michael Elgin, who had his sights set on Jay Lethal and the ROH World Championship. Ultimately those would be Dijak's last matches with The House of Truth, as he would be fired by Truth Martini following loses in both contests. Dijak would quickly rebound, though, joining with Prince Nana after laying out Daddiego. With his regular partner Matt Taven on the shelf after being inured the night before, Michael Bennett teamed with fellow Kingdom member Adam Cole for what would be the final match in his ROH run, a three-way Street Fight against reDRagon and The Young Bucks. The Bucks would walk away the winner thanks to an assist from their Bullet Club buddy AJ Styles. Dalton Castle won a Four Corner Survival match over Jay Briscoe, Matt Sydal and Moose. Alex Shelley teamed with ACH to continue his feud with The Addiction. Mark Briscoe and Adam Page met in a rematch from "Road to Best in the World 2015: Collinsville, IL" [6/5/15]. The All-Night Express took on Roppongi Vice, Jonathan Gresham scored an upset on Cedric Alexander (at least that's how Alexander saw it), and Caprice Coleman and Will Ferrara faced off in a No Disqualification match.

It really can't be overstated how bad that 2009 blizzard was. The worst blizzard that NYC had that decade, the snow was even impacting the underground subways. This was also pre-Uber/Lyft so unless you lived near a high-taxi area in the city, anyone attending that show had to face a bombardment of snow, wind and freezing temperatures all at once. Tyler Black absolutely should have won that night. An audible should definitely been called somehow someway. (of course, Aries should have lost the title to Colt at Reverse the Curse and there's no reasonable argument to the contrary, but I digress...)
Seriously though, absolutely any other entertainment entity would have cancelled a live performance that night. WWE probably even would have. It's amazing that show happened, and anything less than complete fan-service the whole night was the wrong call.

Today in Ring of Honor History: December 22 - 2006: Ring of Honor kicked off their final weekend of shows for the year with "International Challenge" in Hartford, CT. The show was named after the main event, which saw Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal make their first defense of the ROH World Tag Team Championship, taking on Shingo and his Dragon Gate buddy CIMA. In a continuation of their feud in ROH's sister promotion Full Impact Pro, Davey Richards challenged Roderick Strong for the FIP Heavyweight Championship. ROH combine two on-going feuds into one match, with ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson coming out on top in a non-title Four Corner Survival match against his upcoming challenger Homicide, and bitter enemies Jimmy Rave and Nigel McGuinness. The Briscoes and the Kings of Wrestling faced each other for the first time ever, with the Kings walking away the winners thanks to the assistance of Chris Hero's new manager, the debuting Larry Sweeney. With Lacey out recovering after being stabbed in the face with a spike at "The Chicago Spectacular: Night Two" [12/9/06], Jimmy Jacobs teamed with Mercedes Martinez in a grudge match against BJ Whitmer and Daizee Haze, while the hired gun Brent Albright went solo against Colt Cabana. Delirious and Adam Pearce met in a rematch from "Glory by Honor V: Night 2" [9/16/06]. Future triple crown champion Eddie Edwards made his debut, wrestling Austin Aries in the only singles match the two would have in Ring of Honor. And Pelle Primeau squared off with Jason Blade. - 2021: On Women's Division Wednesday, Deli Exo pulled double duty, first facing Max the Impaler in a singles match, before teaming with her Sea Stars partner Ashley Vox against The Allure.
