What was a book, tv show, movie series, etc. that changed its creative team for the worst, in your opinion?
Two come to mind right away for me. First was The Incredible Hulk in the 90s. Peter David had written the book for a long time and while his work may not have been to everyones taste he really tried to build on the concept of the Hulk and was taking the book in a new direction. Marvel fired.him and replaced him with a writer who immediately turned the book back 30 years and had Hulk being choked out by a snake.
The second was Jeph Loeb on the Ultimates. Mark Millars work was also not everyones taste but I think everyone would agree that Loeb was worse. From making the incest subtext just text with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (and Wasp calling Cap a fuddy duddy for being disgusted) to the nonsensical and violent stories. I would place the blame on Loeb for the Ultimate universe going from being more popular than the MU to a joke.

The creative change from Lucas to Disney/JJ Abrams in the mainline Star Wars movies. It's not like Lucas was great at dialog and stuff but the dude at least made original content that completed a story he wanted to tell.
If old George made the sequels it might have been batshit crazy with cringe dialog and acting, but it wouldn't have been a bunch of mystery boxes that never get opened and "Somehow Palpatine has returned" as a total asspull in the finale.

LOL WWF/E gets Steph and company.
Likewise, WCW gets Russo and Ferrara. (I stuck through all the other Because WCW moments, but this was the deal killer to me. As it proved there'd be no more variety between the two shows. It was either Raw or Raw Lite)
Not that it was high-end comedy ever, but whoever took over Mike and Molly post-Season 3. Forgot everything in the last few seasons and then turned Molly into That One Melissa McCarthy Character.
Not defending John K. of course, but Spumco-to-Games Animation Ren and Stimpy. (on the other hand, you can say Games-back-to-Spumco for Adult Party Cartoon!)
Giving G.I. Joe to DIC.
Giving the Bill and Ted cartoon to DIC.
Giving Captain Planet to Hanna-Barbera (oddly enough, DIC was the one giving it up!)
Giving Popeye to Hanna-Barbera.
Giving Doug to Disney.

X-Men going from Chris Claremont to Scott Lobdell. I would call that more X-Men going from Claremont to Bob Harras. Lobdell and Nicezia were pretty good writers IMO but that period of X-Men was the editors making all of the decisions and the writers just along for the ride. |

The whole damn Saban Brands/Nickolodeon era of Power Rangers. Upper Management were convinced the show had to be like MMPR Season 1 as much as possible. Jonathan Tzachor got this weird hang up about being as close a copy to the sentai versions as possible & yet did those sentai a great disservice by producing such inferior versions. Toei practically giftwrapped the perfect show for the 20th aniversery & they somehow blew it in the laziest way imaginable.
Even when Judd Lynn took over as show runner, the higher ups still kept restraining it with silly rules like a bare minimum on continuity even between episodes of the same season.

Everyone whose written Green Lantern since Geoff Johns left has made the book a big nothing burger For that matter you can say the same about everyone who followed Grant Morrison on Xmen (I know that's a hot take but talk about the massive regression...) |

Jeph Loeb was never really the same after his son died. Everything he's touched since has been terrible.

Doctor Who: Russel T. Davies to Steven Moffat, things started off well but mid-way through series six Moffat lost his way and never really found his feet on the programme again due to diverting attention towards Sherlock. Matt Smith's portrayal and the fantasy/fairy tale motif carried it a little further along, peaking at the 50th anniversary, but by Peter Capaldi the show had slowly become more hard-line sci-fi and catered only to geeks than the average goggleboxer. Moffat on his worst day is better than Chris Chibnall on his best, but his best days were spent as a writer, not a showrunner.

X-Men going from Chris Claremont to Scott Lobdell. New Mutants going from Claremont to Simonson, who in turn got strong-armed out by Rob Liefeld. Partially redeemed years later when Milligan took over X-Force and completely turned it into satirical pop-art. And Runaways, which usually has remained very, very good across multiple different writers: Brian K Vaughan (of course), Joss Whedon, Rainbow Rowell. Which makes Terry Moore and (surprisingly) Kathryn Immonen really stand out, because woo boy. |

Rugrats swtiched writers when they came back for the 97 relaunch. A big downgrade from the early 90 years.

The change of Tim Burton to Joel Schumacher for the live action Batman films. A lot of the reason of McDonalds and,parents complaining that Batman Returns was too violent

Roger Stern was either fired or quit off of Avengers because he refused an editorial mandate to do that title's version of 'Mutant Massacre/Fall of the Mutants' where the line-up was changed drastically. The normally solid Walt Simonson took over the book and proved why Stern was right.

He was explicitly given instructions for Batman and Robin to make the film as Toyetic as possible. For the producers hiring him allowed them to retake control of the franchise after bending over backwards to keep Burton for Returns. |

Christopher Lloyd leaving Frasier after season seven. The show suffers a notable downturn in quality with the introduction of unpopular recurring characters (Lori, Kirby, Julia, Mel), all of which were quickly erased when Lloyd came back for the final season.
