Mark Madden and Ric Flair's voices combined to create a kind of lie nexus so unbound by reality and truth that politicians are currently looking into harnessing for their own gain. If the patent office says WWE owns it all then they're absolutely full of shit on claiming that it's 'settled' and Ric owns it now. Especially since Ric claimed months ago he still owned it completely. It's delusion. A TM has to continue being actively used in order to keep ownership of it. Billy Gunn was able to gain control of his WWE name for that reason. Also, WWE apparently only got the TM to "The Man" by signing Flair to a new contract in 2020. WWE sometimes trademarks names that the performer established outside the company, and those typically will revert back to the performer when they're released. WWE has a TM on "John Cena," but that doesn't mean Cena can't call himself that if he ever leaves. But it's not just a signing-over name thing; Flair is said to have sold those rights to WWE. He filed for that trademark in 2019, while under a contract with WWE, to shake them down for royalties related to Becky Lynch. Around the signing of a new deal, WWE also reportedly paid money to Flair specifically for transference of that trademark. This was already done business. Flair has since claimed there is a legal fight going on. For Madden to now claim the fight is over and Flair owns it is a blatant lie. WWE just made a new filing six months ago, this is not something that has fallen out of use. WWE gave this dude money when he was trying to play cash grab games. Now he's out and he's bullshitting. That's all this is.

As far as I'm aware, Flair owns the phrase "To be the man" but nothing else related to the nickname "The Man".

There's also a ton of items with the full "To Be The Man...." phrase as well.

He's working, or trying to. That's all he knows how to do. He's irrelevant who is trying to make himself relevant. Nobody wants to deal with him anymore so he'll try to latch onto Becky's fame.

They probably see it as, as long as Flair is making money, he won't come asking them for it.

Such as the time when he got wasted and made an ass of himself at a WWE2K announcement, but it was Jim Ross who got the heat for it. All too often WWE just chalk shit off as "Ric being Ric." Besides, what do WWE gain from taking him to court for? Even the cost of serving him a cease and desist is worth more than Flair's bank account.

WWE would never take Flair to court because they’d inevitably end up paying his court costs somewhere down the line regardless of how the lawsuit turned out.

I don't think you can copyright it. It's such a generic thing that gets used everywhere. It would be like trying to trademark "Dude". He did own the trademark for it, but he sold it to the WWE. The link that I posted includes the documents that prove this. That article makes the whole thing even pettier. He filed the trademark (which WWE didn't for some dumb reason) in August of 2019 - months AFTER Becky started using the moniker (around October 2018, give or take). Such tremendous oversight on WWE's part and Ric decides he's going to be a petty asshole and try to either stifle Becky's rise OR get a big payday when WWE realizes what happened (likely both). At this point, I don't give a crap if he was good at fake fighting. He's a sad, pathetic, bitter old man.

Remember a few years ago when Ric was selling creepy weird 'consent contracts' on his website for Valentine's Day? This man's every instinct is absolutely horrible. Did he have the foresight to think about the 🏳️🌈 community showing any interest in the consent contracts? He only specifically mentioned women but didn’t go into depth!

I don’t even know how you trademark a phrase like “The Man?” It’s such a common and generic term.

From what I've read on it, you can't really trademark such a common phrase as The Man anyway.
Like if there was a specific logo or something attached to it yeah, but just the phrase itself, I'd doubt it.

Ric is shitting on his own legacy by being such a f***ing loser. Ric is a smoldering alcoholic in his 70s who’s losing his faculties and should probably be under the care of somebody at this point He needs a handler of some type. Someone to just kinda nudge him and say stuff like "I dunno if this is such a great idea, Ric" or "I probably wouldn't say it that way if I were you" Think of it as like, a common sense guide dog

As a general phrase, not really, but within context of a character name, you absolutely can. There's another three records for various other aspects of usage, all of which are active and were renewed as recently as October of last year. WWE have that shit locked down tight.

Or the time when he tried to whore himself out for the low, low price of $100,000 "Accompanying any young lady for a night of laughter, socializing, and dancing at the most special occasion of her young life: her high school prom." The DJ should play Michael Jackson’s “Blood on the Dance Floor” as a tribute to Flair’s career.

And, we've seen that Ric doesn't like to be told "no".

And people wonder where Charlotte gets her attitude from which has rubbed lots of people up the wrong way backstage. She didn’t lick it off the grass as they say.
